New Official Rules for Child Born in UK to Non British Parents | ILR (2024) British Citizenship

Updated Rules: How a Child Born in the UK Can Get British Citizenship | ILR & Citizenship 2024: New British Citizenship Rules.
Getting British Citizenship for a Kid Born in the UK
In this part, we'll look at how a child born in the UK can become a British citizen.
Just being born in the UK doesn't mean a kid automatically becomes a British citizen. Since 1981, being born in the UK alone doesn't make you a British citizen. Instead, it depends on the child's parents.
A child gets British citizenship if:
One of their parents is a British citizen when they're born, or
One of their parents is settled in the UK. This means they have Indefinite Leave to Remain or Settled Status under the EU Settlement Scheme.
If these conditions aren't met when the child is born, they won't automatically become a British citizen.

If a child born for parents, both non British, do we need to apply for a visa or baby can stay till 7years without visa just with a passport than if its possible to apply for ilr for the child? Or definitely parents should apply for child as a dependent visa? Can anyone recommend what the best practice should be. Many thanks in advance.

This is not fair to the child because she did not ask to be born in UK and has all the right as the other English citizens, they are English regardless of the situation of the parents.

Hi @travelabroadmigration ... I and my wife have been in UK legally on ICT & Skilled worker visas since 2016. We'll be eligible for ILR in 2026 (Long residence route) or 2027 (skilled worker visa route) Our son was born in 2017 and will complete 7 years this September. Can he apply this year? In this video you have said "That Depends On When The Parents Are Eligible", I had thought he could apply this year and then next year get his passport without any dependency on parent's eligibility. What am I missing? Please advise. Thanks in advance !!
