@@EpikArmsThe rifle needs to survive a tactical combat jump. The rifle is attached to the paratrooper’s field gear and tethered to the soldier when he/she exits the aircraft. Shortly before landing on the objective, the rifle and pack is released on the tethered to hit first. I forget what the impact speed is but it is sufficient to snap your femur if you screw it up. So……. The rifle doesn’t do a PLF (parachute landing fall) it slams into the ground. It’s really a good idea to have a working rifle at 0 dark thirty when the shit is in the fan.
