CB500X owner here. The bike has fun written all over it. I love it to bits. I’ve ridden all over Europe on it. Wild camped all over Scandinavia. Utterly dependable, no driver modes or complicated electrics, which suits me just fine cos I’m too thick to understand them. Oxford heated grips, Barkbusters and a Garmin Zumo XT and the world is your lobster. I’ll be living off the bike for three months again this summer. Im addicted. Enjoy !!

Like yourself, I think a lot of people are realising that mid size bikes are the way to go. No more testosterone fuelled Top Trumps for me! I've downsized and am very happy, just wish I'd realised sooner, it would have saved me an absolute fortune

Here here,I’m in my mid sixties mow & have been down sizing my bikes over the last six years. MT09 Tracer swapped out for a NC750x and recently now gone to a CB500x. I did check out the NX500 after Mr Fish brought to us one of the first UK reviews,but my dealer had some CB’s heavily discounted so bought one. Best thing I’ve ever done & this little bike is amazing & very underrated. Really looking forwards to Fishes adventures on the NX,perhaps another Big,Middle adventure Fish with the usual gang?

Bought a white one a month ago and I’m loving it. Going in for its 600 mile service this week, 82mpg (300 miles+ per tank) so far. It’s everything my previous Triumph Tiger 1050 promised to be but didn’t deliver. The wind protection is better, it’s lighter and handles better and you can rev the engine - the Triumph was just too fast to enjoy the engine to its full potential. It’s a great real world machine.

82 mpg? I was away camping last weekend and the average mileage for the whole weekend was over 94 mpg. 🙂

I think you've made a great decision! These bikes are true multitools. Enough power for real life, extremely reliable, and from my own experience these are easier to ride off road compared to big 'dedicated' adv bikes. 130km/h on the autobahn all day long if you have to is also no problem at all. My previous bike was 1100cc and after 2,5 years of ownership of my cb500 I'm yet to regret this 'downgrade'.

Brilliant choice bud, will sound the dogs bollocks with the fuel end can baffle out. A wee £30 wind deflector from flea bay will sort the buffeting. Really look forward to the future mods and your ongoing love affair.

It's a personal relationship with the 500! It's always there for you.

I bought a Tenere 700 to do off-road stuff, but never really did off-road stuff with it. I ride mostly backroads and gravel roads, so I don’t need much, especially when my top speed on those roads is usually under 50-60 mph. Factor in tubeless tires, the price, and the fuel economy and it’s a win several times over.

I only found out about the NX500 name change yesterday. I have been thinking about going back to the CB500X after leaving my Africa Twin. I love your set up with the bash plate, crash bars, and denali lights. I really just missed the gas mileage, and I know the power is not the same, but i really don't need that much power. I definitely miss the tubeless wheels, but I went from 17 inch front to 21, and have never even road a 19 inch front. Can't wait to see what this looks like once you are done with the customizing.

Its a lovely bike 😊 Its not about the size its how you use it that counts 😂 That engine is amazing, If it wasn't Honda wouldn't use it in so many models ❤

I know others like em but i'm glad to see no gold shocks ...

With the state of the roads and speed cameras everywhere these smaller bikes make sense

Hi fish I have 2018 cb500X had it about a year.. as a bike for a family second home in Highlands.. bought it for £2.6k with only 2k miles .. and 2 new tyres inc and serviced.. I absolutely love it.. looking forward to watching your thoughts etc moving forward

Congratulations on the new bike. Like many other have said the mid size bike makes sense, fast enough on the road without being ridiculous very easy to ride so most of your riding is just as enjoyable. Overtaking presents a new challenge.

I'd planned to buy a Tiger 400 this year,which they didn't bring out 🤣,so ended up with a BMW F850GS which I love,but reckon I'd have went for an NX500 as they are just lovely & a little bit of a Desert X vibe upfront I reckon! 😎✌️

These bikes are the way to go and looks awesome too 👌

Absolutely loved my 2018 CB500X until it got written off that very same year. /cries. Had a few bigger bikes since but maybe now is the time to dive back in with this new offering from Honda, looks great.

Mr fish I have ridden some of the very same bikes you have, I mean the exact same bikes from dobles and I have to tell you I am going in the same direction as you are, not influenced but more verified, 6 months ago I bought an NT1100 for all the touring I do but I’m very attracted by the NX500, it ticks vertually every box for me. Thank you for thinking way outside the box for us experienced bikers!!

I just put a deposit on a white one. Pretty excited to get mine. Supposed to arrive end of June. My other bike is a 2023 Triumph Street RS which is quite a different animal. The NX will replace my trusty CRF250M as my daily commuter.

Excellent choice. My last guess on your previous new bike was wrong too. 😂 But when revealed, I think, yes, of course, and look forward to seeing vids on it. I've owned a 500x before and close to getting the nx. Your riding experience/skills will get the very best out of this bike as you did with the AfricaTwin. Looking forward to seeing more.

It's a nice bike and I think middleweights are the way forward, I also like the new himmy 450, the triumph 400x and I just noticed the rieju 500 adventure bike which looks good but not many dealers.

I had a 2019 CB500X for a couple of years and really liked it once id wound the rear preload right up to het ridvof the bounce............I had my money on you going for a Transalp 750 if u wanted adventure or a NT1100 if you wanted road only 😂 Enjoy your new bike mate😁😁😁😁.........I badly want the CL500 after watching your vids, to go alongside my Tracer 9 🙏🏼

If someone gave me a Africa Twin or a NX500 & the cash difference to spend on petrol & holidays I'd take the NX500 every time. It's good when a bike gets under your skin,it happened to me with the Suzuki SV650, I bought one as a winter hack & grew to love it so much that I bought a new one. As with the SV650 the NX500,seems to be a proper honest bike & that holds a lot of appeal 👍

There is something about smaller bikes that are engaging. They are fun and that is what a bike should be, is fun! It is your bike to add various accessories which will make it your bike the way you want it to be. I hope your plans come to fruition and that your excitement grows with every ride. I talk to more and more people who have downsized and love their new small bike. Many wish they had done it sooner. Looking forward to seeing your adventures on the NX500, as life is an adventure and no better way than to ride a bike for those adventures. Be safe and wish you well.

Nice bike and can’t wait to see what you think of her…. I’m definitely agreeing with some of the comments on here about smaller bikes… I had a CB500x for my first bike and after a year got a 2021 Africa twin DCT which has now done 11k miles I thought about down sizing but really love the DCT… Thought about getting a new NC750x DCT but I would probably be straight swapping mine for it if I trade it in… Would definitely be interested in a DCT Transalp but wish they put the NX500 headlight on it…… And then again In the mind of some road testers the Africa twin is under powered compared to GS1300, Tiger 1200, Multi V4’s so may as well just keep it and try to get to 100k miles on her Always look forward to your verdicts on bikes because you used to be same size and weight as me before you slimmed down… keep up the good work

Problem with being tall is all bikes are smell these days .. my 250 with proper suspension is the only one tall enough and I’m only 6,2 lol

We only get the cb400X here in southeast asia. They had 17inch front rim when it first came out. Now they put 19inch.

I just bought the NX here in Thailand, lots of CB500X around.

Think the smaller bikes are the way forward. Cheaper to buy and run and enjoy. Best of luck with your new bike.

I know they did the transalp but I would have loved a scrambler or NX version with the new 750 motor.

Great choice! Good all round bikes for those with nothing to prove.....versatile, economical and capable. I've really enjoyed riding my 2017 CB500X from new and it hasn't missed a beat. I think the only real compromise is on the motorway, but fine for a couple of hours at legal speeds. Enjoy! 👍

Owned a 20 plate cb500x and just didn't like it (just wasn't right for me) changed to 500f... love it!

I do a few motocamping rallys, used to see lots of Africa Twins and big GSs, now not so much, got fed up of trying to pick them up i guess. So expect to see more of these now.

Decades ago my litre plus bike threw a piston and left big hole in engine Interesting ride home that was. Engine oil is hotter than you think when spread over your jeans and lower leg with bits of engine casing sticking in your shin . Result had to use my wife's Honda 400n for Dragon Rally that weekend. Fell in love with that bike, kept up with the Gixers and Ninjas from Sussex to North Wales . At the time anything under a thousand cc was classed as a girls bike. Your right about the nostalgia. Big adventure bikes are too heavy and cumbersome as you get older. Downsized my old brilliant BMW 1200 GS adventure and bonkers KTM 950 Super moto for Yam Tenere and Honda CRF rally. Shockingly the one I ride the most is CRF. Yam has decat and endcan remap air box mod and lots of other changes and is stonking bike . Honda has remap and Hagon rear shock. It will go anywhere and for a little bike is brilliant . Would sell the Tenere but no room on Honda for my lanky body and the wife. Maybe the NX is the cure.

Good choice. I love my 500X and have never regretted downsizing. Since I traded in my ST1300 Pan European my average mileage has doubled, the 500 is a better touring bike.

I know what you mean about these honda 500's, having test rode a number of bikes mostly around 70-80bhp including the 750 hornet I recently bought a new 500f in pearlescent yellow. Only 200 miles so far but love it 😃

I like small bikes a lot it’s just that I think you’ll miss the Ibs torque. Lighter off road though. I love the old 2020 VStrom 650.

Have to say I’m surprised BUT I totally get it I’ve got a cb650f and I absolutely adore it, I’ve tried the new hornet and cb1000 and I just feel like I’m home on mine so I totally get the power doesn’t matter for sure.

I test rode one last week and it was a bit odd when countersteering, a back end shimmy that put me off somewhat. Nice engine note for it’s size though!

Enjoy and have lots of fun and blast on this lovely NX500! I used to have CB500 in the past, also had chance to ride CBF600. Both craking good bikes, fun factor through the roof! I love my big 1200 ducati beast, but ... hmmm. You made me think. Do I miss a mid-sized bike? I think the answer is yes!

I had a 650 Transalp in 2002 did 30k miles on that bike, was a bit gutless two up touring, but I used it do everything on, an Nx 500 I think has more power, a very practical bike for everything just not powerful enough for two up touring around Europe, those mountains are killers!!

Its a lovely looking machine - I wonder is Rally Raid do a suspension kit for it to help any off roading? Have fun

The camping Biker just upgraded his 2019 500x for the NX, and he had his RR level 2 tractive rear shock transferred over. The RR adjustable rear shock makes a big difference on my 2020 model, on & off road👌 good choice Mr Fish, mid sized bikes are soo much more versatile 😉

Like your positive attitude and dont care what others think we could all learn from this .Good choice nice machine from a cl 500 owner😂

I love my 18 cb500x . The new nx500 is very tempting. I think if the new translap came with this face and tubleless 19inch front wheel as a option beside there 21inch tube they be onto a winner I think
