This is, in my opinion, the BEST episode of the serie, or at least among the best. It has everything i love about this version of the moomins, the comedy, the drama, the shock, that beautiful ending, EVERYTHING!!! it also gave us some of the most iconic scenes in the show. My personal top being: 3. "The bats flight" [5:10 - 7:02] 2. "Snufkin against the law" (not really) [11:29 - 12:59] 1. THE LAST FOUR (if my calculations aren't wrong) MINUTES OF THE EPISODE (without the credits) [19:04 - 23:50] Thank you wholeheartedly for the subtitles, it feels like a halloween gift to me ^_^

You're very welcome! Agreed that this is one of the best episodes in the series (ironically, it's a bit of a remake of one of the worst episodes, 7, with the white horse; Junji Tashiro was easily the worst writer in the series) - and especially impressive given this was only the second thing that Yū Tachibana directed (his first work was episode 22). It's unfortunate that Tachibana pretty much faded into obscurity after New Moomin, his episodes here show he had the potential to become a brilliant director - the emotion, tension, and *atmosphere* here are outstanding. It's also clear he had an understanding of Moomin's and Snufkin's relationship like no other director: in spite of being a novice, he would be the one to co-write and direct the pivotal semi-finale episode 51 ("I Hate You, Snufkin"), another unsung classic!

21:42 "One of the most common signs of rabies in bats is the inability to fly" *gulp!* I hope rabies vaccines are available in Moominvalley...

lmao. well im sure snufkin would have known if it that bat had em. hes quite intelligent and also would not put moomin or others in danger like that. if it was so. the bat was injured as snufkin stated and when it can fly again he will let it go...okay!! 😁

why was snufkin crying at the end?? this man never shows that level of emotion... wow. is it cuz of how hard moomin fought to keep him in the valley and what he did with the bat?? happy he has at least one true friend. or cause he never actually wanted to leave and wanted to stay in the vally?! hmm... ohh and please no "snumin" cringe please. lol. dont think the guys who made this version were fans of that particular ship. 😦😆 but ya pretty solid episode. another serious tone one which i like. but its odd how sniff and lilmy were so quick to back stab snufkin. they are meant to be friends right?? also after all the good things snufkin has done upto this point... its sad to see their betrayl. smh. snork is easy my top dislike in this version. also hemulin. 90s versions are better for those two.

We can't say for sure but I believe snufkin cried bc of the dedication moomin had to prove his innoccence and bring him back to moominvalley. He realizes that there is someone who loves and cares abt him (platonically ofc) to the point that he would hurt himself for him. Snufkin may not show his love and care with his emotions, but you can tell from his actions (like in the "snufkin is back" episode where he brings fruits (they can be counted as souveniers), chopped the wood, and brought him berries to help with his fever) that he is a huge softie and truly cares about the people around him. I mean did u see how he cared for the bat! He's totally a softie from the inside!
