I have the callaway ai smoke mini driver and it is phenomenal- I rarely rave about a club. It has completely replaced my driver and has not lost me any significant yardage. Accuracy improved by a significant amount. Am testing a different shaft and a preferred grip soon to find the most optimal mix for me. As an amateur but senior golfer (70s) this is a game changer (also dont carry a 3 wood anyway so complements my hybrids well). Whether it will help me reduce my handicap (5.5) or improve scores remains to be seen and more down to other aspects of the game that need fine tuning. But confidence enhanced. Also allows a much easier swing and better tempo and rhythm. Never tested their drives as was gaming the titleist tsi before this.

Love the mini's , have both the new Taylor and the Callaway both 11.5 , prefer the Taylor , for me the mini's handle the wind ( into and cross winds ) better than my driver , down wind or wider fairways i will just hit driver because I have it in the bag but it is really not needed and the reason it works better for so many I believe is that it is swung more like a 3 wood and not a driver so lofting up and shortening your driver shaft doesn't work because you still have to hit up on it and that's where most people struggle.

PXG have had a 2 wood out for ages and if your only losing 20 to 30 yards then get one in your bag

Why is it that everyone goes for a low spin driver to discover later they are struggling?

Awesome chris, im definitely considering one of these, if I can get one. But the question is around fitting. How do we go about that, guess?

Any chance in answering this Chris? Versatility and accuracy enough to drop a full fledged driver? Personally, I don't like looking down on these big drivers, but haven't got the guts to drop them out

I would say so, the short shaft gives you a little more control on the club head and the smaller head often feeds confidence. Definitely worth a go the only problem you may have is getting hold of one 😂 certainly seem to be hard to get hold of

Could you do a test with your QI 10 driver head on a 43" shaft to compare?

I’m okay with my driver but my 3 hybrid is straighter and more consistent and just 30-40y shorter than my driver. Certainly a bad hybrid shot is much better than a bad driver shot. Do you think a mini-driver feels/plays more like a driver or a hybrid? Is the shaft length shorter than a driver?

I don't mind driver but I don't like 3 wood so I would definitely be interested in something like this for the tee

As a junior gamed a 2 wood, off the deck or tee fantastic. I question the need with modern equipment, if you can’t hit one of the various MAX drivers well, lessons needed. Off the deck, the modern 3 woods have various lofts, and there will be one for you. I would argue if you can hit a 2 wood or mini driver off the deck, you can hit a modern driver off the tee. Certainly no place for a mini driver in my bag

I want a mini driver but they are expensive and most people who have one love them ,so hard to find them second hand

Same here. I’ve actually thought of cranking my loft up to 12.5 and cutting the shaft down to create my own “mini” driver. All the benefits of a new mini driver plus actually having 460cc head.

@@eazyeach1876 a better idea that works well is to find a matching 3wood shaft to fit in your driver head if it is an adjustable head and removable shaft,that's what I am using at the moment and works great

I play a cranked driver to 12.5 but with a 3 wood shaft. I had to add a little lead but it works & doesn’t really lose to much distance, maybe 10 yards, but I’m in play more often than not.

Would you say it’s still more like a driver swing or 3wood with a mini driver Chris? Still so tempted as I haven’t been 💯 confident with my dynapowa driver?

I swing my SLDR 12* Mini driver like my 3 wood its only a half inch longer than my PXG 15* 3 Wood.

Neither company will ever produce significant numbers of mini drivers. Because for a lot of average players they would be better off with a mini driver. This, therefore, would destroy the driver market. They will avoid this at all costs. So, why produce a few?

Golf has been screaming out for these clubs Chris. Let’s all stop buying 45.5” drivers, this club is ideal for most golfers

The people that think a mini driver is a good idea should just get a regular driver with 13 degrees of loft and a one inch shorter shaft. It will be just as long and more forgiving than a mini driver
