Have to agree on the weight especially when compared to its predecessor. But, as the Mercedes guy has said, the people who buy these cars are rich people who want luxury and acceleration to show off. What they don't want is a lighter oversteery rear wheel drive car like the predecessor.

Hands down the most brutally honest review of a new product model in front of the product manager that I've ever seen. With the last gen C63, Merc was clearly looking to go head-to-head with the M3. Perhaps they discovered M3 buyers weren't seriously cross-shopping the C63, and the car was too 'track focused' for the legacy C-Class buyers. So they switched back to the tried-and-true formula of "Our car makes more power". As noted by many others, most buyers won't even realize they're hauling around 300+ extra kilos.

The marketing bloke is a legend. I was getting ready for Matt to get him to say ‘diffuser’ again.. he did Mercedes proud there 🙌

Mat has all my respect for being so frank with the Product Manager at such a respected brand. You made my day man 😂

Having the Mercedes rep is such a good touch. The rep was superb and honest. Everyone came out looking good.

Big hands shake Matt, really proves your loyalty to the customer as opposed to the manufacturer. Maybe this could be a new avenue...taking the manufacturers to task 👍🏾

Matt is the type of guy to explain the Mercedes person how their car is built how they could've made it better. That's why we love him!

Well done Mat for being honest and frank with the AMG product manager, it's always nice to see a car journalist sticking to their views and NOT kissing the arse of a brand. Also credit to the AMG guy, he dealt with the push back well and wasn't afraid to have a laugh with Mat and also keep to the typical marketing speak which he'd have to do. Good video, it would be nice to see more with Mat and the car designers in future.

I agree, I was highly curious if this video was going to demonstrate Mat with the ‘stick of truth’ showing how exaggerated the exhausts are on the new C63s given how Mercedes have had the them blocked off for show in their previous models. Glad he called them out on this one.

Matt is so honest and such a good car journalist the car manufacturers don’t fly him out they fly out to him.

Matt is a G.O.A.T for doing that, true journalism, asking questions that are worth the consumer's time.

The AMG guy was really a good sport about everything. A lot of company reps would try way too hard to argue but AMG guy acknowledged the reasonable criticisms.

Product Managers need to be present more often in these car reviews. This is the best car review ever!

Matt has incredible knowledge. Amazing how he remembers all the numbers for the cars.

Everyone talking about how much they respect Matt for being straight forward with the seller/product manager. I loved Matt's honesty and his direct remarks, but I also think that the Mercedes guy should get way more credit/more love and less hatred as he's been extremely professional. He's done an incredible job at representing the brand and his involvment in the video was a great addition. IMO.

100% agree - it was all about having a loud and shouty engine, and smoking rear tyres. Europe's muscle car. 4 exhausts - 1 for each pair of cylinders in a V8.

One of the main reasons I bout the old C63S due to V8 engine and the pure sound it generate. The satisfaction you feel when you start it up in the morning is some thing to remember. We gonna miss it no matter how they sugarcoats it.

Matt’s the best. This is how auto journalists used to be before they all went soft. Kudos to you my friend you killed it.

Weighs in at 2111kg too with that hybrid system. That seems like a hell of a lot for a C class.

Design wise this is the Best Looking C Class ever build for me. Down side is that the Rear Arches aren't Wider then standard. It's a must for me actually. And I would go for the Saloon in Silver definitely really Beautiful. 👌🏼 😍

Hi Mat and Carow, can I just say calling him out on the fake side vent and saying that's rubbish to me is just totally refreshing and brutally honest. We need more like this in car journalism. Great review and I love the merc.

Mat is already a great reviewer but just earned so much more respect from me for being himself and asking pertinent questions to this cars product manager (loved it when he did the “stick of truth” segment and called out the appearance of double pipes on each side when in fact it’s a single pipe on each side) 😅

like a tiny engine and far far too much power, this used to be hypercar territory, make cars lighter again and focus more on the driver experience imho Edit: when I said lighter I didn't mean like strip it out, I just meant less than the crazy 2.1 tonnes

Ummmm… cars are better than ever thanks to the fact that we can add weight and counteract the impact of that extra weight with raw power and have these slick saloons with awesome features while still getting better performance than just one decade old sports cars/ super cars

What hyper car made 760 …… none 😂 HyperCars were always 900+ and much much much faster. There are 4cylinder and 6 cylinder cars making more power than any amg v8 has ever made. No such thing as too powerful for its motor size.

I love light driver experienced focus cars, but this is a C63. They have always been about excessive power and comfort. Shame about the tiny engine though :(

Exactly! The cars are evolving TOO MUCH in power and size/weight. This is not right. A 2022 C Class is way more powerful than a E or S class from 15 years ago. Same with 3 Series comparing to 5 Series. What will happen with the cars in 2035? Bet they will discontinue a lot of models, it will rest a few ones.

I agree with the AMG guy. The contrast between the 2 colors on the wagon looks better than having everything the same.

Wouldn’t want a matte with glossy color it’s just really wrong at least if the second color is matte then it will be normal or to be a dry or glossy carbon finish since you can’t go wrong with carbon

Let's hope Matt doesn't scare away this guy. It would be a nice change that someone is willing to take hard questions and criticism and still do these kind of interviews. Over in the US none of the marketing directors will take hard questions nor the criticism. They'll run away scared. So I hope this AMG rep is willing to come back in the future and take the criticism or possibly stick it to Matt and say hey we fixed this. Complain about it now!

its hilarious how the guy from AMG is trying so hard to sell and positively present all the things matt is pointing out but I love how BRUTALLY honest matt is LOL No one can win over Matt! we love you and CARWOW wouldn't be what it is without you!

One thing everyone is forgetting to mention is the cost of maintenance for this car. With all the new technology and the hybrid system, it will cost a fortune to fix issues given that performance mechanics aren’t used to them. Curious how reliable they’ve made this car.

That's exactly my thought, there will be loads of buyers, but they will never use it's potential. Another missed opportunity for AMG was to ditch the batteries all together and use lighter supercapacitors, which would reduce the weight by a 100kgs at least.

Gotta say that product manager took it on the chin. Hats off to him for going the rounds with Matt. Car looks amazing and I can’t wait for the road test.

Shows that most potential buyers don't care about anything else than how fast it goes in a straight line. Good for Mercedes so they can sell more cars but I can't shake the feeling that it's the first "C63" built without the enthusiasts in mind.

I don't believe that, the V8 was a huge selling point for the C63. In the UK market at least the previous one sold like hot buns despite being hardly any faster and costing a lot more money than an M3. AMG buyers were willing to pay the premium for the engine. The typical AMG buyer is very different from the buyers of A45s which are the same guys who were buying Audi RS3s before and probably owned something like an Astra VXR before that. They are not the same people who buy the full fat AMGs and they will not be buying this (if nothing else because they simply can't afford it).

so called enthusiasts are just Civic owners or keyboard warriors, not cash loaded to afford these type of cars...this is the reality and Merc know this backed up by numbers

Need to do more of these with other product managers loved it!

I know this is a very small feature, but the round digital steering wheel dials are my fave of any car. The right dial can be twisted from electric, eco, comfort, normal, sport, and race. The fact that a little digital icon appears on that little round dial in different colors every time you twist it to a different setting is amazing! And then on the left side, the round dial has the exhaust and dampers adjustability. Matt seem to be unimpressed by these two dials... I think they work amazingly with the interior. I love everything about modern AMG interiors! I'm a huge Porsche fan, and they do have an almost identical round dial, for driving modes, But it doesn't deliver the same beautiful color and graphics. Sometimes just the tiniest thing can elicit a huge reaction. Go AMG!
