    I've had the T0s for a few years now, I think they're a perfect compact desk speaker. I just barely have enough space for them so anything bigger would be a no go. I think they're missing a fuller sound compared to my main Hi-Fi but the imaging is incredible, it blows my main system out of the water. Totally agree about the subwoofer, it makes them come alive. Maybe the new Plus version has that fuller sound that mine can't quite push. Can't complain about an upgrade!

    I've had my T0's for about four years. Outstanding speakers. Listening to them right now. One reason I chose the T0 is I'm a big fan of passive radiators and, well, that's what they are. Another reason I chose them is they are small. The particular computer they're hooked up to is my SFF rig and it all sits on a smallish desk with a 34" monitor. Space is at a premium. Their imaging is quite good, considering that their placement isn't what it could be due to the small desk. I do have a sub (Cambridge x201) attached to the system and it really brings the whole thing alive. Front end is a Schiit Hel 2e presently. Can't say enough good things about them if desktop space is a concern.

    I've had mine for about a year and they absolutely rock. My only complaint is that the back plate of the powered speaker gets hot as fuck when in use. To the point where I hesitate to use them on really hot days. I reached out to Vanatoo and they said it sounded normal :/

    Have the T0 non plus, and they're the only computer speakers I'll ever need. Another cool thing, I had an issue with one of the speakers, contacted vanatoo, and one of the 2 owners of the company got back to me and helped me through the issue. Awesome company

    I was introduced to Vanatoo in 2015. It was at a show and they were demoing the T-1s. The T-zeros are best for desktop application and the like. What is more impressive are the T-ones. My mind was blown in the demo I saw. I walked into the room hearing them play and could not believe the sound coming out of such tiny speakers. (The T-1s are $100 more and just a little too big for desktop application unless you have a giant desk). Here's the thing though, the bass was too big for such a speaker so I immediately started looking for a sub, looking behind stuff and everything. The Vanatoo guys were all smiles (like the Cheshire cat) as I ended up scouring the room for a sub and came up empty! There was no sub anywhere in the room! To this day, I don't know how in the world they did it except to say it must be DSP. As a plus the Vanatoo folks are super nice and not to mention, humble. I ran into them in my coverage in 2016 and 2017. In 2017 they got the award for best innovation or some such thing and even though it was just a silly show award that has no impact on anything, they were overwhelmed and extremely grateful (I witnessed it). I almost bought a pair of T-zeros three years ago, but finally found a way to fit my studio monitors I have to my desk, so I saved some money in that one. If I had need, I would not hesitate to get a pair of the T-ones though personally. (I got tired of dealing with subs about 12 years ago or so).

    I have these in my kid's room with a small Kanto Sub6 (matte gray) sub connected. Cable box and game console are connected to the smart TV. Optical out is connected to the T0's. The speakers turn on when they get a signal. Mom is not an audiophile so she does not care about speaker placement. They are placed on the highest shelves in the room, sub included (it is very small), and they still sound great.

    Thanks Randy! For better sound quality on Vanatoo's, isn't it recommended to use the digital inputs as opposed to the analog ...because the analog input signal is converted to digital before being sorted out by the DSP. So for example, instead of controlling them with the pre-outs of a headphone amp, one would want to connect with USB and then use your computer's volume control. I believe that's what "Z" alluded to back in the day.

    I love my T0s. I disagree a sub is a MUST have for desktop use, which these are mostly designed for. I agree they are much better with a sub, but of course. For playing music at your desk, these kill it without a sub. While I really don't think they need a sub because again, they're not home theater speakers, they will struggle a little when playing loud without a sub and they'll struggle for hip-hop/bass heavy music. So if people care about that then yes they'll need a sub. These are really really designed for desktop use though. I LOVE the crossover, and I think its one of the killer features compared to much of the competition.

    It is rather scary that when I watch you, my thoughts are mirrored shortly after by your words! You were saying that they are versatile, right after I was thinking it. Perhaps your videos are portals to the 'Twilight Zone'. But I am rambling and totally out in deep left dugout. Thank you for this review for the nearfield listening solution. It did sound a little counterintuitive to pair them with a great subwoofer, but I will defer to your better ears and experience. I am sure some fledgling audiophiles will really enjoy this setup as their entry into great sound without worrying about multicomponent separates systems and choices. Thanks for your time and effort to share this with us all and enjoy your quality family time. Take care and stay well, Sir.

    Had the Vanatoo Transparent Zero flanking my monitor, on an 1/8 inch thick rubber pad, on a wooden stand, 9 inches above my desk's surface. They're now my spare or ...? The Vanatoo Transparent Zero Plus speakers now flank my monitor, as aforementioned. I quote from Gary Gesellchen, blog on July 10, 2023. "We made minor adjustments to the equalization of the Transparent Zero Plus frequency response. The unit maintains the same overall neutral balance of the original, while being just a little more relaxed through the critical midrange". The PC audio card's, C-Media HD CM8828 processor's, 10 band EQ setting, used with the VT0 speakers, I'm now using with the VT0+ speakers. These VT0+ speakers sound just as phenomenal as the VT0 speakers did! Also, the active VT0+ speaker, as Gary Gesellchen stated in the aforementioned blog, would run a bit cooler. My active VT0+ speaker does run notably cooler even with the sleeping mode, now OFF!

  • @JMJM75257
    @JMJM75257 Жыл бұрын

    Only negative I can think of and this goes for all active speakers is once you get the itch to upgrade which we all inevitably do you have to start from scratch again. You don't already have an amp, dac etc to swap out separately. Perfect for someone looking to set and forget in a bedroom or small space etc but not for those always looking for that bit more!

  • @MrBobsher

    @MrBobsher

    Жыл бұрын

    I agree this is the big trade-off for actives, BUT you also have to consider this: people on a budget might often get a "good enough" amp for their passive speakers (cobbling together used gear, hand-me-downs, whatever), only to find that once they upgrade the speakers, the old amp doesn't cut it (the new system might even sound worse, or not reach the same SPLs, etc.). The amplification is almost always going to be perfect in active systems.

    In a high quality powered speaker system, the manufacturer can optimize all components to function together as a phenomenal sound transducer, if they so wished their product(s) to be so. Vanatoo does, and has done so! Many music lovers just do not have the necessary time, and/or money, and/or knowledge, to do justice to their brain's need to hear sound that is as clean and accurate, as is the source material.

    I got just got these after watching your video and Joshua Valor's video. You guys had two very different takes on this speaker regarding bass and I see now that my preference for bass lines up with yours. Definitely needs the addition of a subwoofer especially if you're not listening at high volumes all the time. At low volume these tend to lack any punch until you turn them up. After adding a subwoofer these sound even better. Now that they don't have to handle the super low end they cover the mids and highs much better in my opinion. Vocals tend to pop a little better too. Love these speakers so far but definitely recommend a subwoofer.

    Love my T0's. Upgraded from Edifier 1850's during COVID (100% WFH) and couldn't be happier. I did like them better on short stands flanking my monitor (with the standles set for a vertical baffle), but I added another monitor, so they're back on the desk. The DSP programming changes when it detects a SW, so not having to change things makes sense.

    Randy, This is a very interesting little powered speaker. The Klipsch 7's have also caught my eye (and thanks for that review as well). May I ask a stupid question? I have a "music room", where I have guitar and recording equipment. The ancient hi-fi in that room has died and I'd like to replace it. One of these two speakers looks like a real likely candidate for this task (plus hardware for source input). Here is the question: I already have a NAS with my entire music collection on it. I'd like to access that to play on the music room hifi (instead of having to shuffle CDs). Suppose I get a WIIM or some other streaming device. OK, how do I select the music to play? The point is, it seems like one can only do this by using a smart phone or a PC. I don't have a smartphone and I'm not interested in adding a PC to this already crowded room. Is there any other way to access music from the NAS to play on the system I want to make? Thanks for anybody that has constructive inputs.

    This review couldn't have come at a better time. I'm shopping for a solid desktop setup. Would an SVS 3000 Micro be overkill? I'm looking for a smaller sub that can get down to around 20-25Hz (I like bass heavy music)

    At that price and the fact you must have a sub hooked up makes these a no go. Way better deals and sound for a lot less then that.

    To be fair, every speaker that size (or even close to it) needs a sub. If you think about them as a $200 amp (which it would be with all its features on a stand alone) and $250 speakers it really isnt crazy.

The only differences here are really in the electronics and some mildly differing EQ, physically these are T Zeros. Most of the changes to the plus are quality of life type, which is nice since they didn't increase the price (well, after they increased the T Zero price from $350 to $450 a while back; inflation is a bitch.)

    These are way more versatile. With the iLoud if you aren't happy with the bass (which they do output a lot of for their size) you're sorta stuck. WIth these, plug in a sub.

    The t0 have an f3 of 56Hz while the t1 have an f3 of 48Hz so there is very very little difference between the two (in terms of extension) Also worth noting that Vanatoo lists *in-room* response, which is very misleading when most companies list anechoic data.

    I have both. The T1Es do have better bass, but it's not that much better. They're still a small speaker, though noticeably better than the T0 in that regard. My T1Es live on the tower desk and they still have a X201 sub and they do sound better with a sub. However, even on a relatively clear desktop, they take up a lot of room and I'd need new desk(s) for anything larger.
