    That paint on the rails strangely brought about new beauty to an age-appropriate appearance. Kudos on the flipping and no smudging 🤣 Hope everyone avoided any catastrophe with winds and rain and angry Mother Earth things. Always looking forward to the next installment 😊

    As a hobby I used to rebuild car engines for friends at work for very little money. They were always easy to work with, easy communication and very appreciative. That is until the last guy. I never did another engine for anyone after him. Just too much hassle. Of course, it's different when it's how you make your living. You do beautiful, professional work!

    Agreed, I much prefer to see the scars on these old boys. I do get the occasional request to paint the entirety of boards like these but I've always turned those jobs down. I liked the subtlty of this paint job though. This board actually came back for a glass on fin too, video somewhere on my channel. It Is a small world, did you just find this video by chance? Probably seen you in the surf somewhere!

    Awesome video looks so good! Question, When you finished painting completely and did a wet sanding in the end, did you spray anything or paint anything on after the wet sand or just leave as is and let dry? Is the clear coat spray a water seal?

    Hey hey, So after yhe clear goes on initially that's the end of. The wet sanding is actually sanding the clear coat.

    Excellent video. It’s the the small things that make. A big difference. I’ve been using a hardware store spray paint which peels off. I’ll try the Molotow. I’m planning to restore a 1970s board. I’ll spray paint a lightning bolt. Would you have any idea where to get a stencil pattern for a lightning bolt

    Molotow will never publicly admit it but their paints are made for graffiti so even without the clear coat it's exceptionally hard wearing, great stuff. Not sure where you'd get a stencil. I would find a Png or jpg file online , print to the scale you want, cut it out, trace onto the board and mask it off.

    Sweet job. But ooef, coming back.... Ouch. I always found that spray can paints added so much weight to repairs .... except lacquers . What are you using?

  • @smallkinedings

    @smallkinedings

    With a board like this, I could 6 ounce lam the entire thing and you'd never notice it. These old boards weigh a tonne. But, Molotow paints are a thin, light and strong paints. Never had an issue with weight with these, even on full resprays. Though, seeing how some people apply paint and the cheap hardware store pa8nts they use, I can see how it does happen. The gnarliest boards (weight wise) I've ever had in are always two pot, full resprays though.

    MOLOTOW paints are uv resistant acrylics. I've done a few experiments with and without clear coats on my own boards and it holds up really well but considering the amount of salt and sun boards get, having the extra protection of the clear coats is a good idea. Helps with final sand and polish too

    @@smallkinedings Thanks. Acrylic spray paint. interesting. I can’t find true acrylic spray paint in the US so we have to push acrylic thru a spray gun. Normally acrylics are water based and dry fairly fast. Is that stuff stinky like your typical lacquer or oil based paint spray paint?

  • @smallkinedings

    Not under the glass. It's rare that I use any kind of paint beneath epoxy laminations or resin. Sometimes with repairs it's necessary but normally with only small areas. You can certainly use MOLOTOW paints on top of epoxy though which I do almost daily.

    Negative, water based above glass is a bad idea. Below glass is acceptable but I use these molotow paints for both applications
