In a word errr, No. Slow charging speed & price let it down. Styling is a bit bland as well. I'm still looking for a cost effective 5 door hatch EV which I'm pretty sure will have to be a used model, prices for which seem to be dropping nicely.

I've got the latest Kona Electric and the best I've managed is 314 miles from a charge and several times I've got 300. And that's with mixed motorway and city driving. No car in this class is as efficient in the real world. The new Mégane E-Tech has a terrible real world range and the iD3 and Born are the same. I will almost definitely be upgrading to the new Kona when my lease ends.

Despite its shortcomings, this version requires a lot of support for its inclusion of more buttons to control aircon etc., rather than hiding the controls in the infotainment screen like most other new cars. Buttons are a major safety feature and should be recognised as such by NCAP. I've tended to respect your reviews in the past as being from 'industry experts', but I echo others comments about not bothering to travel to see this new model 'in the flesh'. As a result your review is quite misleading when you're comparing it to the previous model and other new Hyundai's. You're quite wrong when you say little has change to its overall appearance and that it doesn't reflect the new models such as the Ioniq5. Oh dear, try learning from the "Electrifying" review, where you will see that there are many more pixel related echoes of the new Ioniqs and body panel creases too. But then, they travelled to see it in the flesh. You're going to have to up your game What Car? and while you're about it, select a car, rather than a van, for your car of the year! 🤨

Like the new Kona, disappointed you only sent a camera person to Germany and did VO for the entire video. As it's bigger looking forward to trying it out but at least it seems like I will be able to have passengers sit behind me unlike the original, being 6'4" based on TFLEV's review. Just need to know if it will be able to tow and whether it has a heatpump option or not.

I think Kia/Hyundai are doing an Apple on it and gimping these cars to make the other ones for more money stand out. Personally for me the charging speed of 72Kw isn’t the end of the world because I would virtually never have to charge away from the house with the range it gets. Probably 280 real world in ok weather, which would suit me. Can’t afford one new though. We’ll see the used market in three years.

I like how it looks, better IMO than the Niro EV. I've owned an e-Niro since March 2019, one of the first batch to come into France. The ownership experience over 4 years and 75,000 km has been great but I can see the problem both Hyundai and Kia are going to have, and that's price. The new Niro is now more expensive here than the base Tesla M3 and on a par with the RWD Model Y. These are bigger and in many ways more capable cars...and based on the throngs I saw at the new MG dealership in Poitiers recently, the Chinese are going to put a dent into sales of VW Group, Stellantis and Hyundai/Kia sales. Hyundai and Kia make well designed and built cars but things are getting very competitive now in the EV world.

Model 3 has a smaller boot than the new Kona and the new Kona has range of 300 miles as opposed to 220 miles. The bonuses of the Model 3 are charge network, dual wireless charging (this is very handy) and a big tech advantage. The negatives of the 3 is the completely buttonless interior won’t be to everyone’s liking and the firm suspension personally puts me off the car as I want softer suspension. If someone’s in the market for a Tesla the one to go for is the Model Y long range. By far Tesla’s best deal. But above many people’s pay grade. And that firm suspension and lack of buttons won’t suit everyone.

A lot of the premium is because of the various government subsidies so the pricing doesn't need to be as competitive. That's simply the nature of subsidies as it isn't always the consumer that benefits. However, without government subsidies, we may still be waiting for EV's. Note that Hyundai owns Kia so in the long run, their models should be similar as many components will be shared.

The UK plug in grant has been abolished, so not really true anymore. The reason is that OEM make a minority of their sales from EVs, so they don't want to cut prices. Makers who are pure EVs or majority EVs (Tesla, MG, Polestart) have cut prices or been much more aggressive with their prices.

You didn't even mention the way that the rear parcel shelf folds away neatly behind the rear seats, something that will be very important to many potential buyers. We need to know details that can actually help us make a decision one way or another. Constructive criticism is there to help you improve the way you do things.

Good overall review of the new update on the Kona, I own the previous Kona electric 64kw and I am very pleased with the car’s efficiency very accurate battery usage. Looking forward to the drive test on this, one thing I have noticed on your review and other reviewers comments is that the car now has a light in the charging port this is not new my older Kona also has a light around the charger for night time charging. I don’t think That I will be running to a Hyundai showroom anytime soon as the range is the same and charging speed is much the same as the previous model if they had upgraded the battery to 70kw and 150kw charging speed this car would be a massive winner.

Prefer the look of the Niro. I would be worried about the positioning of those headlights. However like the idea of the heated charging door, the bigger (than Niro) screens and more real buttons. Not too worried about charging speed as I would do the vast majority of charging at home, but can see how improving charging speed would make it more attractive (as it would on the Niro). It's also on a par with the larger & more accomplished Enyaq 60. I can't help thinking that Hyundai & Kia are starting to price themselves out of the market which will undoubtedly be filled by new makes & models from China. It works out at about £3.5p per mile, or around a 7th of the cost of buying petrol. I can cover 1000 miles of town and general driving for £40. I haven't used a public charger for nearly a year now, because I've had no need to. There is a free charger at my local Sainsburys, but I've not used that for ages. There are used EV's on the market. Just imagine when ev car sales are up by 30-40% the electrical companies will have a field day and charge customers through the nose. Alot of car experts don't believe ev is the answer. People who are not well to do will not be able to run or buy an ev car. Less reliable than combustion engine, more insurance, higher repair bills, more to run . You can't tow an ev incase of breakdown thus compulsory to have breakdown cover.

there are still leafs around from 2013 going strong. and they don't even have great battery management. with battery tech getting better and better it's a non issue, especially as going forward it will be far easier and cheaper to replace batteries than engine parts.

Pretty gross of hyundai to release this as they're removing the old kona, but still have 10s on 1000s of kona orders to make, and they're gonna pump out the last gen to people who have waited 2 years.
