I bet the new gears will be used in the upcoming Liebherr crane in some cool innovative way. Why the red 28T gear was designed in the first place is still a mystery to me since it doesn't need to be double-beveled. I guess it was just an interim solution for something specialized like this. Still, I find the lack of compatibility with previous gears very inconvenient since I really hoped for standard 14T and 22T gears to be finally introduced instead of another pair of 12T and 20T gears.

The red 28t gear doesn't _need_ to be a double bevel gear, but it does follow the design philosophy of every other Technic gear, excluding the new 12t and 20t non-bevel gears and the 24t crown gear, which also allows the new differential to be driven by a paralleled shaft, much like the older differentials, or a perpendicular shaft, like the newer differentials. The backside bevel does have some niche use cases, but the rest of the gear allows for wider usage of a single part, which more or less fully replaces the previous differential styles, outside of the niche use cases that the 16-24 differential provided with its double gearing and capabilities of allowing an axle to protrude through the entire housing. You also won't find 14t and 22t gears to be compatible with the standard set of Lego gears anyways. If you pay attention to the available gears, you'll quickly find a pattern to their design, and you can quickly deduce the design philosophy from that pattern. General knowledge of gears will also quickly tell you why 14t and 22t gears, mixed with the typical Lego spacing, are incompatible with the other gears. Also don't confuse the word 'innovative' for the word 'creative,' though I'd argue correct wording is still meaningless in context. It's a differential, one that doesn't allow any non-differential use like the 16-24 differential did, there's zero creative ways for it to be used. Using it as a typical bevel set while locking one side of the differential output is just a waste of parts and adds minimal strength considering the internals still rely on small half-bevel gears; unless you use a driving ring to lock the differential housing to an axle, but even then it seems like a pointless waste of parts for something that could be achieved with other gears in a more efficient manner. It's a differential and nothing else.

Yes all true including never having enough differentials. It's not just in drivetrains for vehicles that are useful. There is all kinds of complicated mechanisms that can be produced with the parts for the differentials and differentials themselves. Such as adder and subtractor mechanisms useful in some types of heavy equipment models and more. Even in some sorts of Transmissions involving variable speed Drive specifically variance of a CVT. Using that to be able to produce acceptable torque when the CVT is just too weak since it's just a belt drive with not much torque being able to be transmitted. All kinds of ingenious mechanisms are made possible by the differential gears as well. I want a blonde friends build a Lego Gizmo the drivetrain for which is in the gearbox we had only limited number of murderers to work with but many more functions. Essentially was doing multiplexing one function when some mortars were stopped and one was running in One Direction reverse that motor another entire set of functions very complex mechanically. That was many years ago before they even had the clutch elements and all that it was just done using gearing and differentials for the multiplexing. I've built some very complex gearboxes more complicated than what would be out there today but just because of the limitations Lego gear gearing back then. Theoretically you could do what you do now but it'd be more mechanically speaking in engineering feed and just too bulky and more. If you have access to the 12-volt train system and the changeover units aka the switch Motors as some people call them. Like the ones used the remote decoupler and the remote control level crossing and of course the left and right switches / points that were remote control or the add-ons for these or have extras. Those would make some sweets electric clutch operators for something that was fixed and just wanted to control different functions on something and of course with the 12-volt Motors Pack-a-Punch. And of course the 12-volt motor in a 4.5 V Universal motor housing as well not to mention the Motors that are essentially the same as the light gray surrender gold Checkmate motor but are black that are the 12 volt version of these. And if you get lucky and can get the 4.5 Technic control something I cannot remember to set name or the parts of which primarily the control switches which essentially our momentary versions control switches for the Colville train system. Grateful motor control

People who test the limits of Lego are going to love these new gears. They appear to be much better designed for handling stress than anything in the past. The largest Technic sets have been pushing the limits of what gears can handle, so they will obviously be part of the strategy for Lego to enter a new era of mega builds. But I think they are also going to be important for weird side projects. For example, to honor the Volovo 6x6 articulatulated hauler, Lego put together a large group of child geniuses of Mindstorms and Technic, and had this team of children design a way to pull a full size Volvo fully loaded (100 tons) using only Lego gears and motors. In the end, they used 1920 PoweredUp XL Motors, so as you can easily see, they spent a large amount of capital on making a project like this work. Stronger gears will obviously make more projects like this possible. The question I have is what about axles and clutches? These gears can take more stress. Usually clutches are used as a safety point so that axles aren't broken. Will new clutches be designed, and even new axles? I don't see Lego changing axles to steel, so I'm not quite sure how they would do this, since it is clear the size of axles is not going to be changing.

This is exactly what I was hoping Lego was going to do with the new differential housing. I wasn't expecting _this_ specifically, I do still hope that we'll see more gear pieces for the differential housing. Though, these new gears are a bit odd, as they're not compatible with anything outside of the new gearset, a very odd choice from Lego considering every other gear follows a consistent design that makes all the gears compatible with each other; I wonder if there's going to be a new line of 'heavier duty' gears, stemming from the design of these, in the future.

On the other hand, I'm very critical of introducing bespoke new pieces that don't go together with any other ones. Especially gears. Thank you very much for showing that not even two of the smaller ones mesh together! So for now I dislike this new differential, but I won't solidify my opinion until you (or someone else) does a stress test comparison agains the red heavy-duty diff.

The new differential stoped the small gears inside from breaking out and the red bevel gear combined vertical and 90° options, but the teeth can be damaged in 90° transmissions relatively easy - on the read gear or the 16t gear. And "normal" drivetrains always have a 90° transmission at some point. Since the housing is the same it maybe was the idead all along to provide multiple combinations. Is there any usefull combination of the gears in other frames with difflock?

@@jamesbond_007 you have seen one part of the differential, the grey "bin" with the 5 tan gears, but it had a red gear attached for sure :) The yellow gears are brand new, they were introduced in the Ferrari. English has little details that are difficult to remember, actually braking the bad habits is the most difficult part. But I can turn this around, almost 100% of English speakers will spell my name incorrectly, everyone writes Balasz instead of Balazs. I doesn't make sense since neither "sz" or "zs" exist in English, so there shouldn't be a preference for "sz", yet it's almost always misspelled.

@@RacingBrick Ah, that could well be. It did have the 5 tan gears. My mistake on that, my apologies. :)

I have all the super car sets and I have to say how disappointed I am with this set, the large differential is hideous and the mistakes in the manual make the build so frustrating and not enjoyable at all. I would not recommend this set to buy.

What an overhyped piece of crap with a ferrari badge on it. Transmission skips gears, same boring suspension as always lol. Instead of designing better mechanisms for shifting etc. they just keep selling the same crap over and over again and then they call it beautifully engineered and people still buy it LOOOL.

I dont think it's overhyped it's only over coste The set is perfectly looking, but like every other Technic car is a garbage and overcosted Technic set Cars should be creator expert only, just with more Technic parts
