Your friends were quoted 3-5k because they use actual epoxy resin. The product you are using will most likely peel in a year adding little to no value to your home. Still a great finished product but you get what you pay for and the people quoting your friends are most likely offering a quality product that has 10x the durability of what you put down on your floor.

You should add an epoxy resin clear coat on the floors. It would make it more polished looking, extremely durable, and the flakes would look more like stars against the black background since there’d be a clear layer on top; instead of flakes that stick out.

@@tomjrs3625 not necessarily, if there is any sort of top coat on the floor (like a urethane) it wont bond well at all. Epoxy also should not be layered on top of an already existing epoxy surface without being grinded down. The reason companies charge a lot is because it is done the right way. For epoxy to last the concrete has to be hit with a grinder. There is no replacement for grinding a floor, there is a reason people do it at home for 500$ and companies charge thousands. There is a big difference.

I’m typically impressed with the content, but was a bit disappointed with this one once you started saying how much money you saved compared to what your friends were quoted. The products available to and used by professionals are significantly different than these DIY kits. As others have said in the comments, you’re comparing apples to oranges. Now, if you’re happy with this flooring and fine if it doesn’t last long, that’s great. However, I think you do your viewers a disservice by implying the quality of floor that a DIY-er can achieve for $400 is comparable to the quality of floor that you’d get from a good professional application. That said, thank you for all the great content and education you put together; I just think you missed the mark a bit with this one.

Smooths it all out to make it look nice and glossy, plus it cleans up super easy that way. I assume without the clearcoat the flakes probably wear down faster with nothing protecting them. No clue why they don't include the clearcoat in the kit already, aside from the obvious answer that you think you're buying a whole kit then after you realize you have to give them another $100.

he'll hate this product after a year, or one winter season if you live in the north. Peels off where the garage door comes down form trapped moisture under the door where your warm garage meets close outside. It looks terrible.

I’m planning to do this in my shop, but I was curious how slippery the epoxy is especially when wet. I know cars can bring in a decent amount of water when it’s raining, and I didn’t know if you recommend adding a no slip top coat.

Question: I’m a first-time home owner and was considering doing this for my sunroom that used to be carpeted; any thoughts or suggestions? I’ve already torn up the carpet and filled the cracks, but there is this yellowish carpet glue still remaining on large portions of the sunroom. Not sure how much of an issue that is

You will have to get all that glue off of the floor before putting epoxy down.... and its a bitch. Should definatly diamond grind, or find tips and tricks from actual professionals, not this guys video. ...or just pay to get it done properly, some companies, like mine, offer a lifetime warranty

Can you weld on it? How does it fair with brake fluid? Also, I might have chose a different color. Black screws maybe impossible to find on the floor once you drop them. I do that all the time! I have always loved the look of epoxied floors, but think I maybe to ham fisted to have them in my garage!

@@NickVetter unfortunately it won’t last long at all. He didn’t grind, no clear coat, went on top of a product already on the floor, etc. Fun video and I’m sure he had a good time doing it but as someone who owns a professional concrete coating company, this was a waste of $400 and all the time he spent doing it. Again, fun video but I would not recommend to anyone to follow anything done in this video.

The reason it's more expensive when you pay a company is because it's a higher quality product and prep. They grind the floor to ensure adhesion, it's Commerical grade, more paint chips, and clear coat. I've done it myself and I've seen it done professionally, it's not the same.
