@@Jordan-Ramses Just cause it's looking semi playable doesn't mean it's not potentially a scam though, particularly since a number of other devs have cobbled together something real simple and easy for a trailer, or for the "game" itself (day of dragons is an example of something that's like, maybe half playable, but clearly buggy and missing features). All it does is show that they weren't taking the super lazy route for it.
If I want to go walk round a grim, deserted city with the occasional zombie, I'll go walking in Leeds at 3am.
My biggest red flags are: - No demonstration of melee combat - No working (driveable) vehicles - No environment interactions (jumping? climbing? mantling? vaulting? fall damage?) - Zombies not demonstrating the ability to pursue players (other than in straight lines) Where is the hording?, flocking?, pathfinding? - No indication of difficulty or progression curve - No player-to-player interactions (PvP, text/voice chat, emotes)

Ye, looks like your basic generic open world multiplayer survival game alpha. Also its clear that when thy moved the engines porting shaders and other solutions from the vertical slice was a no go, it looks like its still in "early access" alpha stage and there isnt really a full game. I expect even with a delay it will still release in a simillar state, all those games do. I mean its clearly real, but if this is the game it might have as well been fake.

It looks like a techdemo at best. Something a small team could create in a relatively short time. It's just simple AI and some shooting. The animations are so downgraded from what we've seen earlier that you can litteraly make more dynamic ones by watching a 50 min tutorial on youtube. But hey. What do you expect from devs supposedly creating this game in the arctic and on beaches with ultra slim laptops and lenovo tablets.

This should be called the day after. It's a game you play the day after an actual protagonist saves the world from the zombie outbreak and you're one of the few survivors who've made it. Running around a city with like 10 zombies in it where the only sound for miles would be the reverberation of the gun firing shows just how empty a world it is. realistically it seems like it's going to lean on PVP to make up for the lack of much if any PVE elements.
@ectothermic
Жыл бұрын
Honestly, that sounds like a good idea. It wouldn't be very exciting or even much of a game, but I like it. The world is already saved, your player character might've contributed but you don't really have a goal anymore, just finishing off the remaining zombies in your local area and surviving until things get back on track. It could be an interesting little look into life post-war, with characters who share their stories about how bad it was just a few weeks ago, and humanity came together against a common enemy. I'd like to play that. Maybe it could still have PvP or missions that take you into more infested areas for actual gameplay loops, but for the most part the main plot could be chill casual gameplay. That's a very idealised and probably impossible game, but your post made me think about it. Lol.

@@norrecvizharan1177 It's hard writing a story when your central plot thread is the epilogue itself, but I think it would lend itself well to an endless survival game. You'd need strong writing for it to be compelling, and also take away the feeling of redundancy. You'd still need a goal of some kind other than "waiting it out."
@legojay14
Жыл бұрын
@Infinity Tea Lizard the problem would also be don't accidentally make the story your coming in after more compelling than the aftermath story. But it shouldn't also be generic. Lends itself to much to criticism of the genre for necessary breaks from reality for the game to work. A solution would be smaller scale problems and the "main character" of the last story is a character in their own right. A parody of the usual protagonist of the genre but not a mean spirited one. It's actually pretty easy to figure out what the standard main character of most genres would act like when not the main character anymore
I liked the part where the player spent 5 minutes carefully crafting and inspecting their factory fresh Ultra Tactical Spec Ops AK-47000 with adjustable synthetic stock, tactical ACOG optics, suppressor, extended tactical magazine, tactical flashlight, and tactical foregrip only to immediately reveal that the formidable foe they're facing is a sparse and scattered population of unarmed, brain-dead, half blind zombies that move slower than an old lady browsing the soup aisle at the grocery store. It looks like you could beat this game with a .22 revolver, but of course that wouldn't satisfy the gun fetishists so they needed to shoehorn in a gun crafting system to trick them into thinking this is a real gameplay trailer. Also, these graphics are very 2013. If you told me this was a GTA5 or Tomb Raider (2013) mod I'd believe you.

I kind of wish theyd gone with weapon systems like Last of Us Multiplayer. Improvised and on the fly crafting, very sparse ammunition, and everything looks worn down. These look like they just rolled off a factory floor, every last one of them. Another red flag to point out: There are no tooltips, at all. When they loot items or hover over them in the inventory, the game doesn't tell you anything about them. They're just JPGs that can be moved around from slot to slot, essentially. Same with the weapon augments. When they switch them around, there are no tooltips popping up, telling you how they affect the weapon. You have to basically keep an eye on the stat bars at the bottom to know how they change the weapon. This is all really really fishy and feels like something they cobbled together in a few months or weeks to keep people hooked but honestly, I don't think an ACTUAL game exists here. This is just theater. But who knows.

I know they had a lot of problems in the past but DayZ has gotten a lot better and recently had the most players it ever has. To me, it's not a zombie horde killing game, it's a survival game that focuses on letting the players have a wide range of interactions with each other. The zombies are there as an obstacle to make PvP more interesting and stop you from just running through a town real quick and looting with no consequence. I haven't experienced bugs like you mentioned in the past couple years. This game is only vaguely in the same genre as DayZ in my opinion. This is closer to the division or something.

The entire time they were in weapon customization I kept hearing RIFLE IS FINE in my head
All those mods - and it didn't affect the actual weapon stats at all ... but on the bright side, they learnt to make sure the cursor was ON the zombies when they died this time ...
I saw the gameplay was released and rushed to youtube because I know Kira had a video! Great work as always man
Do you know what this game reminds me of, gameplay and graphically wise? Tom Clancy's The Division 1. I swear to god it has the same walking animation and camera angle. So I'm watching a game similar to TD1, but without the enemy factions, the rogue agents, the map events, the supply drops, the missions...and instead we get zombies with trash AI, no zombie swarms, unpunished players making tons of noise... Wait a minute... That sounds like this game is going to be a generic zombie survival game. I just love how they're shooting zombies in an alleyway inside a city (the sound would echo a whole lot), and their punishment for making such a quantity of noise is getting swarmed by a whole 2-3 zombies that get immediately one-shotted by bullets. Real engaging content there. I mean, if this was a F2P zombie mod for The Division 1, I'd be all for it...but this is a full game. A full price game with gameplay/graphics comparable to games older than 7 years ago and with as much content as a tech demo would have. Amazing.
I always run around in my tighest yoga pants in a zombie Apocalypse too
It totally looks real, go watch the gameplay. Look at the zombies all reacting the exact same way when the player rolls up, standing there screaming and not moving whatsoever so the person showcasing 'gameplay' can shoot them all. Add in nine minutes of walking simulation with next to nothing happening and you've got a real, completely actual gameplay trailer. (sarcasm)
@georgen5882

Add to that the player when leaving the house turns left up the road, then turns left immediately knowing the zombies were there prior to seeing or hearing them. Heavily scripted, possibly "real" in the sense that it exists, but I doubt there is more outside of what they showed. Because if there was, they would show it at this point. Or at least show more than they did.
on gameplay side it reminds me of the projects we whipped out in school for the game project classes to demonstrate that we can build a game with handful of basic features.
This looks like when I played "The Division" on an old E8400/GTX275 based PC.
"It's obviously something I would want to play...if it was real."
I'm with you on the not showing UI in these gameplay trailers. I get UIs can easily be changed, but this isn't showing how the game will actually look for a player if they hide that away. Plus we all know UI is important to the whole experience.
during a live stream we found"preview" throughout the game. they dont even own the assets
As soon as I saw this drop I knew I’d enjoy you reacting to it far more than the content itself
The timing on her taking a drink and you taking a drink was pretty cool though.

There is no way this game is ready for November 11th. They need at least another 2 to 3 years.

I might be nitpicking cause this is not a AAA company. But... yeah! Once the world ends, I will start crafting high quality equipment for my guns aswell! Good thing I Know the fine electronics of a red dot sight and how to prepare a silencer! Factory grade weapon equipment should be rare find in the game world and not crafted. Crafted stuff should be put together with duct tape, strings, bolts and hope.
Project Zomboid just casually looks down on The Day Before, cause it actually exist and it's fucking amazing
You should look into TWS next, it used to stand for Track While Scan, but now they changed it to Training and War Simulator. Anyway, they from the start are promising an entire 1/1 scale (or atleast something close to that) of the earth, with FULL fidelity aircraft (meaning very realistic, like DCS quality) aircraft, armored vehicles, infantry, and naval combat. They havnt done anything wrong yet, but they are promising all they things, and they started development not long ago, and were promising to get a beta out in just a few months.
nice gameplay, after all, we were most worried about the crafting system, which uses lego, nice
Biggest fear for myself that sheds doubt is the apparent lack of assets around, items like functioning cars, lootable things or areas, zombies, everything feels like its a "background". When you create all of those things and add them to a world it causes massive issues for how games run. Look at DayZ zombies lag depending on the patch there might only be 20 on a screen at that time, Tarkov has lots of areas to loot but its a "snap" shot type of a map where there are fixed borders, that has issues also because of the amount of entities within the map. This is an open world mmo? God help the size of the battleship server power you would need to support that. World war z is an example of that, yes there is lots on screen but most of the time its "background" zombies or they are a type of "mesh" as one unit that breaks apart rather than a single model. They have to release a demo at this point, otherwise the rumors will just continue to spread. By this point there should be a playable aspect they could release.

gun store customer: "i want a silencer. for an AK47." sales: "you want sub sonic ammo with that?" customer: "what?" sales: "get out of my store."
the fact that the ammunition and attachments were easily craftable really breaks it for me, like oh hey what are two things that are hard to make...
To be fair, a smartphone would definitely be useful in an apocalypse scenario. Even without cell and internet, those things can be used as wireless controls, bluetooth hubs, programmable internet hotspots (local communication), etc. Even if it's broke, the internal components are useful. Receivers, transmitters, batteries, raw materials, etc. Other stuff? eehhhhh not so much.

Wow. The apocalypse even hit the zombie population incredibly hard, it seems. My sympathies for the poor biting buggers. I guess the main gameplay loop will be the hopeless search for zombies in a zombie apocalypse. True grimdark, lol.
Betting the trademark dispute was fabricated to make it sound like their "delay" wasn't just them going silent for suspicious reasons.
In an interview for IGN they said the delay was already planned before the trademark issue, in fact it was going to be announced along this video. Is it me or the weapon recoil seems very random and at one of the instances (second zopmbie of the second "group") non existant? Is that within expected? (My FPS experience is very limited).

yeah, and isnt it convenience that they said that after people not buying their "delayed because of copyright" excuse. the weapon recoil is the least you need to worry about this whole project. just red flags everywhere.

@@count_dcinamon Yeah too much smoke around this supposed game, but that weapon recoil was bad. Very inconsistent and jumpy...almost like they don't know how weapons work and just threw this together at the last minute.
"The game isn't real you say? Just focus on the yoga pants....okay, that's given us like at least a couple of months of extra development time but let's just ship it unfinished and make minor improvements in a day 1 patch."
Woman in yoga pants runs around a nearly deserted city killing what appear to be harmless zombies : The game ..... Huzzah, I guess.
The previous demo was an unplayable vertical slice, this one is a playable slice haphazardly thrown together in a few months using unreal engine store assets. I have nothing against using store assets, but others have noted that some of the assets used for this trailer only released on the store a few months ago. I hope I don't have to explain why that is a giant red flag.
What is the point of the red dot, if its over shoulder when aiming?
All I want is a first person zombie game that mixes Project Zomboid with the first person graphics and gun and sound design of Tarkov
Looks like they scrambled together a build for the video to shut people up. Due to the investments and what they've shown so far, I do believe there is some form of 3d software they can sell as a product. Although from I've seen I can't imagine it will be a good video game.
You gotta give it to them that crafting music is definitely a bop.
