[New Footage/Partial] - Alice In Chains - 1996-06-28 - Tiger Stadium - [2-Songs: "Again" & "God Am"]
Музыка
New unseen footage of the first two songs of Alice in Chains' opening set for KiSS on June 28, 1996. Both songs, "Again" & "God Am", have cuts - all the footage I have is in this KZread video. It's likely this is all that was filmed (at least by this cameraman). Assume this was filmed to be used for television news segments/promotional purposes.
I opted not to patch the missing minute of "Again" w/ just audio, but did patch the end of "God Am" (after the footage cuts off) with complete circulating audience audio. I overlayed some pre-show footage of the crowd/venue to cover the end section for the remainder of "God Am". Also used a short ~10sec clip of a different song (shot from backstage) that was posted by @livefilms1099 elsewhere on KZread. The audio does have some feedback at times - that is on the source.
Hopefully enjoyable to some in spite of being only a couple incomplete songs.
Happy Holidays and all that....
00:00 Intro/Walk-On
00:36 Again*
03:30 God Am (Live deubt)**

** - (End is cut / Audio complete + pre-show crowd/stadium footage)

Of course he does. Quit being so naive. It’s like all the people that comment about old nirvana live videos. Saying, “ these people have no idea what they are watching.” So dumb. We knew what we were watching. We’d travel five hours or fly to Seattle back in 91’. Because we were watching a religious experience. Something that kids don’t know about. I saw nirvana three times and it was amazing. The power Kurt could harness was like a super human. Layne was such a crack addict. Poor dude.

As difficult as it might be for a lot of AIC fans to listen to Layne in this state, so unfortunately unhealthy, I always think this way while listening to Layne in 1995-96: If he was a lead singer of some indie/alt band, his voice, even how it was, would have been an incredible addition, no, would've made said band. In other words, even at his worst professionally, Layne would have been ANYONE'S lead singer and would have taken them to new heights. That's how freaking good he was.

8 years ago, I was in a really dark place with little hope. These records along with Nancy Staley’s frank remarks about her son’s death definitely helped save my life. I saw where I was headed having lost 40% of my weight and I just couldn’t bear the thought of making my mom go through something like that. Man, seeing what's been done to and for Bam Margera in recent years, I firmly believe that's what needed to be done with Layne. He needed to be forcibly snatched up, arrested (and yes, charged with drug & paraphernalia possession and maybe had time in jail & pay a fine) and court ordered to get fucking clean and live in a sober living situation for at least 2 years before he'd be legally allowed back out into the public, as well as be placed under a financial conservatorship by his mother until he improved drastically. Alice in Chains would have had one hell of a comeback album after their self-titled album. I've always thought that 1996 was definitely the final year that his body could have been helped and brought back to normal health. He was only 2 months from turning 29 years old here. He had so much more potential. Adult Proctective Services should have been called. Layne needed to have his ass kicked in such a harsh, but fair way to set him on the straight and narrow, but no, everyone just left him alone to his own devices and look what happened to him. He was allowed to just sit around and waste his and everyone else's time for 7 years until he literally withered away and died as a 6' 1" - 86 lb grown man where his body wasn't even found for 2 pathetic weeks.

I was lucky enough to see a Tiger game there in 1988 when I was a young teenager. Detroit lost to Baltimore.....I almost got a line drive in the face! LOL it was a pretty cool experience! subsequently, I've never seen a game at Comerica Park. I think the Eagles were the first ones to start playing concerts at Tiger Stadium a couple of years prior to this in 1994. They may have had rock concerts there in the 1960's and 1970's, I don't know. I know that before the Silverdome was built in the mid 1970's, the Detroit Lions played their football games at Tiger Stadium. When they tore the Stadium down, it really sad to see. I would have love to have gone to this show, not because I'm a KISS fan (I'm not really a big fan of theirs) but for the opening act of AIC! I know that KISS used The Smashing Pumpkins on this same tour to open their shows at Dodger Stadium in LA. I don't know if AIC were meant to be their opener for the whole tour or not or if Layne's condition caused them to drop out and have the Pumpkins added as a substitute. Thank you for the footage, but looking at Layne even here...still a golden voice, GD crying shame. Rest in Peace, Angry Angel.
Holy shit I never thought this footage would come to light also thank you very much this is very interesting to see pro footage of some of their final concerts
It’s honestly really sad and shocking tbh to know that Layne didn’t pass until 6 years after this.

@brad pity true, but I believe it kept many of us away from them. It set an example (not his passing, but his self destruction). And I've talked to some people who actually found strength in their music to beat the addiction. Either way... it's sad to see him and others die due to drug related issues.
Look how skinny he is here :(. I wish they had involuntarily rehabilitated him at this point. He would've hated the detox but if his loved one were there everytime ensuring him thing would be alright maybe, just maybe he would've been saved, I just want him to be saved so badly. Hope you rest in peace, your voice was the one, and no other voice makes me feel what your's did. Your voice will ring in my head as long as I'm alive.

I’m a Linkin Park fan (AIC isn’t my era) and I can hear how Layne influenced Chester’s earlier sound when he was with Grey Daze. (Although I also heard some Seb Bach in Chester’s voice). Being a LP fan, I couldn’t help but also enjoy listening to AIC. May Layne and Chester r.i.p. This footage is a gem.

I miss Layne. He was my hero as a little boy. He carried so much power in his voice, just like Chris.🤘😎🇺🇸
This is both great and sad, seeing Layne in this shape breaks my heart, but i thought i had already seen all the Layne's performances on the internet, this footage is pure gold, thank you so much for sharing with us man!
I was at this concert, 1996 Detroit Tiger Stadium. One of the last bands play at tiger stadium before they demolished it . It was 100° that day and humid. Love Layne Staley 🫶 Love AIC then and now. There is only ONE Layne, irreplaceable. I I think this is one of his last shows that he had they were so phenomenal to see in person. I consider myself very a very fortunate soul to have seen them.
I was there! As a KISS fan, but I still like Alice in Chains. Really cool to see the AIC fans freaking out about the footage. I know the feeling when I find something amazing from a band I love!

I love you no matter what mistakes you made because we all fuc up. I adore you and your music. You are a legend and a light in the dark. You have helped many get sober. Thanks
Just watched a documentary about Mark Lanegan and it went in depth on his close friendship with Layne. Horrible how drugs destroyed their lives. After Layne's fiance died it was all over for him.
R.I.P. beautiful one. Even on his worst days he could out sing most , and absolutely no one could even come close to sounding like him. He was a true gift to us all for the short time we were graced by him being alive .
Even when he was sick and in the depths of addiction, Layne could rock it and had a badass aesthetic! So tragic, I would have loved to see him get better, find happiness, and make the greatest ever comeback in rock n roll. It would have been epic.
I was att this show. Blew me away

I remember that the alice in chains videos dvd has some seconds of this show but from the back of the stage, awesome to see from this angle , layne was still powerfull at this point
I was at this show. It was a return show for KISS....returning the Detroit Rock City with the original lineup in full makeup. The crazy thing is there were a shit ton of people dressed up for AIC.....Layne Staley look alikes all around....for sure. It was almost more of dual bill once AIC joined the show. Definintely alot of people there just for them. The set was short but I always wanted more AIC, so it would have been short regardless in my opinion. Thanks for sharing this.....its a total blast from the past and a hard look at an amazing artists last run....
If you watch Scott Weilands last performance their movements are hauntingly similar. I was still using when they both died. I didn’t realize they even died until years after. Wish they both were still here.
Despite being so physically weak here, Layne never lost power in his voice....sad he went out the way he did
Too bad they did not have the foresight to record these last shows. I am sure they thought this was going to be some warm up shows for a huge 2 year tour.
