I got the same guitar as a Christmas gift to myself, knowing they would sell out. It's a great guitar. How they can sell it at this price is beyond me. You can never have too many Tele's.

Crazy, I was watching this video yesterday, really really sad I missed this guitar, hoping, wishing one day I’ll be able to snag one for $250. Then this morning 7/22/24, I go to their website and boom, they have the Ghost Tele for sale right there in front of my eyes. I didn’t think twice and purchased it on the spot. They are now sold out.

I like the middle and neck pickups best, based on what I heard here. Plus, those factory strings sound great! ...and those pinch harmonics are just gorgeous. You play well, and honestly this guitar sounds like it was made for your style of playing. Cleans sound gorgeous! A little bit of that tele spank in there, too. Firefly really knocked it out of the park with this one! Sheesh! I just bought a Firefly tl on cyber Monday. I missed out on the MadCat & this beauty! Please keep taking extra gentle care of yourself. Your well-being, both mental and physical, comes first.

Sorry you had a rough end to the year Jimmy and wishing you and yours the best; hope it is a healthy and abundant 2024! Because of the sales I got 4 Firefly’s (!) including the Ghost- all arrived in a timely manner here on the left coast. I found out that I am not a kill switch kind of guy, but the pickups are awesome and it looks and plays great 😊. Keep on keepin’ on!

The “Kill Switch” is not exactly something that I find necessary for my style of playing, but pretty cool nonetheless and in keeping with the John 5 model. The idea of spending $800 on a guitar used to scare me, but I feel much freer getting 4 that all play above my paygrade. $225 for the Natural LPS with maple neck feels like pure theft, and I don't have to sand off the Chibson logo @@JimmyStewart1

Hi Jimmy. Happy New Year and great vid! Like you I ordered this guitar on 12/15 and it shipped out but got lost along the way. Firefly re-shipped another after multiple emails from me and it finally arrived ! Mine has a beautiful neck and is intonated perfectly, but it also has a few minor issues - the bridge pickup cavity is showing slightly between the bridge plate and the volume knob, the neck pickup tape is a bit mangled with that pickup being microphonic, and it has a very tiny paint imperfection on the front. All in all, however, it's a nice guitar for the price, and one that I plan mod to perfection going forward. Thanks for the review and keep the videos coming!

I ordered the Firefly strat style guitar... the white relic SSS pickup configuration... will "Hot Rod" it with new pots, switch, jack, and Pick Ups... Garden Garden website doesn't have much on it for quite a while now... some "Strats" "Tele's"... no "LP's" "Firebird's", etc... wonder when the new shipments will get in...? Maybe the Houthi rebels are holding things up...

Sounds awesome! I bought the Madcat in December and I’m extremely happy with it. I did upgrade the pickups with Lindy Fralin Vintage hot in the neck and Blues Special in the Bridge. Also upgraded to a solderless Six Strings Tele Harness. Now plays and sounds like a dream. Wish Firefly would make a John Mayer Relic Black 1 inspired Strat!

Jimmy, I'm sorry to hear about the difficult end of the year for you. My prayers go out for you and your family. Another good one, Jimmy. I'd be willing to bet that Fender's multi-grand$$$ Ghost Tele's don't have the same quality appointments as IYV's new approach to building ANY guitar. I like the contrast of the dark neck much, much more than the white Fender. I got into this game as a hobbyist two years ago at 73. I am nowhere near the musician that you are, but I do love trying to play and working on them. However, with IYV there is zero real work required on them. Sorry to hear you had difficulties over the holidays. At 75, I can truly say gettin' old ain't for sissies. It's not unlike combat...you compartmentalize the ugly possibilities, but every day those potential possibilities loom larger and larger. Well, anyway, thanks for another great show, and hang in there and keep moving, Friend, keep moving.

Thanks for the commentary. Loved your playing on this model. This is a neat looking guitar. While I understand why it has a kill switch (it being a tribute), I wish it had a tone knob. Why not both? All the best.

Hi Rob…thanks so much for watching and commenting. So glad you enjoyed it! In keeping with the John 5 signature model, the tone circuit has been removed. Essentially what this does is put the tone @ 10 with little to no tone bleed by having a pot. More “attack” to the sound…hope that helps….much thanks! 🎸👍

I've been looking through your extensive video library (thank you) trying to find one specifically about the work you do on guitars. The closest I've gotten was when you were going to swap necks on the telecasters (blondie and blue). I'd love to see how you go about sanding the frets and what tools you use, along with all the other setup work that you mention during many of your videos. Perhaps you've done this and I haven't found it yet or it may not be of interest, but, as I finally took the plunge and have instruments on the way (IYV and Monoprice), it's something I'm keen to learn. Would you (or someone) mind pointing me in the right direction? Thanks again for posting your videos. All the best.

Hi Rob..thanks so much, and as I said, there is a lot to go through…😎 I have a number of different setup style videos here on the channel…full setup on a CV Jazzmaster, a setup on a couple of FF’s including the FF DCS and a LP…pickup adjustments on a Grote Jazz box style and a FF P90 dogear shim…fretboard and truss adjustments, fret cleaning and restringing…I think I did a pretty thorough setup on the Monoprice OS20 as I recall as well….along with the Monoprice Cali Classic I think too…

I haven't tried this one, but I did have a current drop Mad Cat, come across my bench. I did the initial inspection, string change, and basic setup. While it definitely wasn't a model I would choose due to the Mad Cat look, it was actually a pretty decent guitar. The owner wanted it strung with 11's and tuned to standard with moderately low action. And I was able to set it up to his specs with no problem. Fit/finish was really good. There were a couple of pin tip sized spots in the body finish that were not noticeable unless specifically looking for finish flaws. All the hardware was good. All the electronics worked perfectly. The nut was correctly fitted, slotted, and finished. And the fret job was good. All I did was a mirror polish on the frets. Which actually were moderately polished from the factory. The owner was very happy with his $226.00 Tele.

@@JimmyStewart1, that Mad Cat is just too much yellow for me. But my buddy prefers more classic finishes. So he loved it. It's crazy how it's not the guitar itself, but just the way it's dressed. And it's a good thing that we all like different looks. I bet Fender is glad they can sell 10, 000 varients of the same guitar they have been making for decades. The Telecaster design has outlasted every kind of tech there is.

@@DrMurdercock Yes, from what I have heard him play, he is a very versatile player and pretty incredible in a number of styles…but that whole stage persona just bothers me so unfortunately, I just don’t follow him much…as far as the guitar goes…I wanted it for the build quality and uniqueness not that it was a “tribute model” I don’t use a “kill switch” but it’s fun to play around with nonetheless. 😎

@@JimmyStewart1 Same, i dont care about the kill switch, but its there i guess. Love the rest of it though, the real one is like 5 grand so its out of the question. And yeah, his persona in those bands is meh to me as well, even when I was younger I didn't care much for him, this is when all I heard was him playing Manson songs, Zombie songs at that time. Had no idea how good he really was. He is paying the bills playing the 3 note rock shit and I think at heart he is a Buck Owens type guy

Hi Jason…as I stated in the video, by the time I received mine and was able to get this video out, they had “sold out”! Firefly will remove the listing from their website once a model sells out. When it comes back in stock, they will list it again. You will see this one under the “FFTL” tab when it is in stock. Hi James…thanks so much for watching and commenting. A big part of this is the use of good CNC machining these days around the world now and of course a large, less expensive labor market in China. Firefly also keeps costs down by having no middle men, distributors or expensive advertising. They provide a lot of value in their guitars! Truly appreciate your stopping into the channel! 🎸👍

Hey Chief, I do hope the medical issues are truly behind you. Is that blood that was on your door? Took the twins to my tech today to have him give them the once over, a string change, and to check the intonation as I don't trust myself to do the intonation with me being deaf. Necks were straight, the only thing he did was tweak the string height on the Strat, and ran some sandpaper in the nuts just to clean them of any burrs, otherwise they got a perfect bill of health. He's in his 70's doesn't look it, and is a great guy, never charges me a lot for what I bring him, and he was impressed as I laid out the specs for him. He said it was on par with his custom Tele except for the SS frets, and he loved that MGB finish, and fit. He about fainted when i told him what it cost me to have shipped to my door. Told him that to get SS frets from Fender, you have to get it done by a Master Builder from their custom shop, so start at $5k, and go up from there. We are truly living in the golden age of guitars. The widespread availability, and use of CNC machines have changed the game in a massive way. Just about any maker can now compete with the big boys. Spend those few extra minutes on QC, and you can beat the big boys. No reason to pay thousands of dollars for a guitar that will still have QC issues. What kills me is that so many of the QC issues with the big boys are the results of not changing out their tools often enough so you end up with guitars that have have chatter marks all over the place. Truly a golden age for guitarists of all stripes and skill levels.

Can you find an answer about that from your contact George, and also, do those tuning pegs have an insert in them or is that just a reflection? I looked real hard, and to me it looks like they have inserts on the pegs which would be cool...

I love mine. Did you happen to measure the output of the pickups? Also, the fret inlays look like real abalone to me on mine. Do they look like that on yours?

I could do that in an upcoming video, but honestly unless you pull them out, you are really just measuring resistance overall which doesn’t really tell the whole story anyway…🤔 Yes, the fretboard dot markers seem to be actual abalone and not plastic….thanks so much for stopping in! 🎸👍

Hi Angus…thanks so much for watching and commenting. Not sure what “brand” they are, but Firefly has stated that they are a new upgraded Alnico 5 humbucker, most likely made in Korea. Pretty sure they are not DiMarzios…they would cost as much as the guitar…😎 They do sound very good in my opinion however…very happy with this guitar! Truly appreciate your stopping into the channel! 🎸👍

HOLY TOLEDO… This is NOT one I would have ever expected you to go for, Jimmy-it just seems so different from your usual style! 😂 That kill switch is clearly more of a thing that shred/metal players like John 5 or Eddie Van Halen would be likely to use in their playing. Still, you seemed to be having some fun with it there! 😂 This guitar clearly has very hot pickups, too-again, probably in keeping with John 5’s style, and it really shows in the overdrive sounds. Your experience with this guitar is very much like the one I’ve had with my new FFTL, although your fretboard looks better-mine was EXTREMELY dry when I got it. Seriously though, I’m VERY impressed by the improved specs and quality of recent Firefly guitars-the ONLY things I’ve done to my new FFTL are clean/oil the fretboard, glue the rear ferrules in, and put on some GOTOH compensated saddles. I haven’t done ANYTHING else to it. I do wish mine had that new, more Fender Tele-like headstock design though. I just hope Fender won’t go after them for it.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your FFTL as well. There were only a few of the new models that had the headstock change with this Ghost being one of them. Hi Chris digital…thanks so much for stopping into the channel. The way Firefly lists on their website is a bit confusing sometimes. As I state in the video, this model is currently “Sold Out”. Once a model sells out, they actually remove the tab from their website. Once it comes back in stock, they will include a link to it under the appropriate tab. You will find this listed under the FFTL (Tele style) tab when it is in stock. I would bet that Firefly releases another batch of them, as they sold out quickly after release just before Christmas. Hope that helps explain it a bit…🎸👍

Hi Chris…bought the lock on Amazon a few years ago…no longer available unfortunately. There are others now that are similar, but can’t vouch for how they work and standup over time. This has been excellent! Do a search on Amazon for biometric door locks…mine was around $100 as I recall. Allows fingerprint, code, Bluetooth via App and USB battery backup along with keys. Appreciate your stopping into the channel…🎸👍

I don't get the real purpose of the killswitch. Would have preferred a tremelo on it lol. I'd like to see Firefly make a strat or tele with three p90s in it on a five way switch Fender Scale with a two point Tremelo.

Hi Greg…thanks for watching and commenting. With this type of “kill switch” depending on your style of play, you can create a type of staccato effect, especially at high gain. Not really my thing either, but in keeping with the John 5 signature Tele. Fun to play around and experiment with. Appreciate your stopping into the channel. A trip P90 Strat/Tele with 2point trem?? @@p3k152 Yeah…even to Hawaii, that’s pretty expensive shipping…I was stationed in Hawaii (Pearl Harbor) for a few years back in the late 80’s early 90’s and things were quite expensive even back then…😎. Luckily, I had a number of guitars with me during that time frame. I guess it’s the price you pay for living in paradise…🙏👍

cool guitar, what are the pickups again? the budget makers are movin in and taking over.. the jigg is up, the big makers been pushing too much a nuttin fora whole whole lot.. just taking advantage of community in a big way if you ask me, really not cool, board members all that garb, that's on them, not on consumers, if you fixed yourself a way that you need to charge abnormally high prices for very little guitar shame on you.. I think it sounds great, at least when you are playing it. * Maybe you can introduce "him" to your pink (Pepto Bismol) one. They might like each other, and start dating. 🥲
