Thanks! In reaper, if you select both vst, you can use CTRL + B to switch between them.

Hi, I find that EL juan really cuts transients a lot compared to L1. The response curve options can change quite a bit on this software. I agree with you, Juan lets peaks pass and doesn't really act like a brickwall.

Thanks for the comment! I’m interested to know if the meters are bugged in this beta because the flickering behavior seems odd. Also, when adjusting the threshold with no audio playing, the GR meter flickers.

It doesn't make any sense that cuts transients and let peaks pass.....

Yeah I personally didn’t notice this. If anything it lets more transient through than L1. Dan Korneff commented that it is being fixed in the next update.

Who on earth thinks that the L1 is the 'reigning champ' in 2024? 2004, maybe, but I could have made a list of *at least* 10 limiters that outperformed the L1 in 2014, and likely 20 in 2024. Maybe test this limiter against the AOM, the Fab Filter L-2, the IKMM Stealth, the Oxford, the Weiss etc., etc. (apologies for all the others that I omitted) for a more relevant comparison....

Hey, thanks for watching! You are correct that there are plenty of more powerful and feature-packed limiters in 2024. But in mixing applications at the track level, L1 is still extremely common and often preferred by pro mixers because it’s simple and it just works. For mastering, yeah I wouldn’t touch L1. Pro-L2, Slate FG-X, Flatline, etc all are superior for mastering. But for some quick-and-dirty limiting, it’s hard to beat L1. Also, maybe I didn’t make this clear enough, but El Juan is intended to be an L1 replacement/clone. So it makes sense to compare the two.
