Josh, "It's the best water THEY are" meaning there is very little to no iron in it and it usually ran off a mountain with a lot of limestone it it. That water is usually clean and not acidic. Also, beware anybody who says "It's not rocket science" if they try to make any. They'll end up making methanol, fusel and probably solder joints with lead solder... The whole process involves much more troubleshooting the mash batch than anything.

Use a series of thumpers to do this in one shot. The thumpers can also be used to add flavors if you put candy or fruits in it to impart flavor. The other way to raise proof is to just run it twice. This is what they are doing, if you gradually increase the heat you dont need to run it twice.

Never over wet the outside of a mud based mortar, especially when its that thick. Wetting your hands to work the outside is a no go, as the layers dry at different rates they will separate into flake layers and fall apart. The moisture is driven to the outside as it is, if these guys dried this from the inside I can assure you that it lasted one week after filming.

Why would anyone pay 5x+ what you pay for top shelf liquor legally? They claim they sell the stuff for $200 a gallon. I just don't think anyone would be that stupid. Moonshine is traditionally cheaper because there is no tax applied. Paying 5x the price of premium legal taxed liquor is ridiculous. Then half the time they loose or spill most of their product from dumb mistakes. Top grade moonshine goes for no more than $15 a quart and thats if they deliver it 200 miles across state lines. This show is about selling dreams. They pump the stuff through rotten garden hoses from plastic barrels and pvc pipe... YUK! That must taste good.

If you live anywhere but have a large freezer you can make liquor. The still with a freezer takes longer it works good just don't get drunk more than once a month with it. I use apple juice. Sometimes banana juice. Never leave the house. Great for CHRISTMAS GIFTS.

@@catheylunsford4461 That was my thoughts exactly. They have licenses for the areas or wooded locations for their distilling operations. And the so called bootleggers they sell and or give their product to aren't really bootleggers They are instead hired staff which are actually transporting the alcohol to a legal distributing facility such as "Sugarland." What do you think? How close am I to being right about this?
