    Great general advice that I have found to be true with similar experiences. Patience, having more discus than less and a bigger tank makes a big difference. I have one smaller discus that rules it’s area, so it proves they all have their individual characteristics! Good filtration along with weekly water changes works for me.

    Amazing precision in describing the problem with eating for the new fish. Had a hard time with manacapuru scalare. Placed in a quarantine time alone. A month after having purchased it went without eating a single worm! Fading away but refusing.(had it a month in isolation as I treated it for worms which I thought he was suffering from). Then, he started going for it (very!! occasionally, when dangling right at the nose - manually), but then spotting out and retreating :( It drove me mad :( But then, after returning him into the common tank he grew more cheerful immediately and quite rapidly starting copying other fish behavior and going for food. Still refuse eating other food than frozen though (expensive :D) , but has a good appetite! Such a pain in the ass fish. His 2 brothers are no fuss at all. Got used to new life in no time. I bought the 2 of them at first, and the 3:rd fussy one a month after. All from the same litter. Who knew he would be such a piece of work..

    Thank u for ur comment & taking time out for showing your appreciation! If ur discus has gone dark, its most probably a blue colored fish… discus with blue color usually get dark for a ton of reasons, but most commonly its due to stress or some sort of illness.. Many kinds of disease & illnesses can cause the fish to go dark, so its not really possible for me to diagnose the issue here 🤷🏻‍♂️… but u can checkout my videos on discus disease & treatments, that might be helpful for u.

    Thanks alot ! Sometimes they would also not eat if they are raised on a different kind of food than what you are trying to feed. You can try switching different sorts of food & see if it encourages the discus to eat. Most breeders raise them feeding beef-heart mix. Hope it helps!

    Hi Ahmed, Nice video. I just started keeping discus fishes. I bought 4 but only one discus had dry food I.e. hikari bio gold. Other 3 go for it but don't eat. It's been 10 days should I worry. On the 5th day I had given them Goat Heart Mix to which they showed positive sign. But I want give them dry, should I wait for some more time. Need your suggestion.

  • @ahmedsaquarium8262

    @ahmedsaquarium8262

    Hello!, some discus would readily accept anything u throw at them & some wont, and some would eventually stop eating certain things & only accept stuff like worms & heart mix. While some would eventually start eating even dry foods. U can starve them n try feeding them dry food as u r already trying but u have to b careful that they dont loose too mch weight. That being said, in my experience i have found that some of them would just not eat dry food at all… i still need to find out the exact method how breeders wean wild discus to commercial food including pellets… But usually i think short periods of starving while offering dry foods should do it. But if ur discus are new, i would suggest u first ensure that they all eat fine even if it is heart mix from the beginning & then shift them to another food.

    I have 5 discus about the same size(medium) in the aquarium. 4 of them got well together because they grew up together. The other one is getting its way on the aquarium but does not swim together with the others. I have space for one or two more discus but I'm afraid of putting two smaller ones and they get beaten up. You mention putting a new discus that is about the same size as the others, what about putting one bigger? Does it make any sense to put one bigger to break that gang of four hierarchy? Two more behavioral questions: 1 - Do adult discus swim less around? In the majority of videos I see, adult discus is always idle, while my young/mid are swimming all over the aquarium. 2 - Is there any difference in aggression on male vs female discus?

  • @ahmedsaquarium8262

    @ahmedsaquarium8262

    Hi! Whenever u add a new discus, its almost like rolling a dice… u never know what would happen… there had been times where I regretted adding “one more” discus cz it threw the balance out of the window.. If u add a bigger discus, it really depends on the personality of the fish, it might become the dominant one, or someone else in the tank might pin it down… again its like rolling a dice… bt most probably size should play a role & it would be the dominant fish.. 1- adult discus mostly hang around, especially if u have many in one tank, they tend to stay in their zones, cz they will be picked at if they moved in the territory of other fish. 2- male vs female, i think it doesn’t matter, bt i hv noticed males get more aggressive when they r competing for a certain female in the tank.. Hope this helps!

    It is normal for new discus to hide even larger ones, even healthy ones… sometimes they start eating right away sometimes they wont eat for weeks. It’s tricky with every new discus u add. Give it time to be comfortable in its new surroundings. Just keep an eye & make sure they fish isnt having any internal parasites as that could be one of the reasons they dont eat. White stringy poop, sunken belly are signs of internal parasites

    @@extraaccount5830 You can mix metro with food and feed the fish if it is eating, otherwise u can mix metro in water directly (1 gm for 20 gallons) (make sure the metro you are using is water soluble) or you can use the syringe method you just described but its stressful for the fish, i personally never used it but it is one way of doing it, but i would personally keep it for the worst case scenario
