New discovery along the Cascadia Subduction Zone

Local scientists at the University of Washington have made an exciting discovery on the seafloor along the Cascadia Subduction Zone. The same zone capable of bringing "the big one", a 9.0 earthquake to western Washington.

The regular shit that gets blown out of proportion on the media was enough to get me to stop watching regularly several years ago. Add to that 100+ innocent people are murdered in this country every damn day, most people are so irresponsible that they're likely to hurt or kill you with their basic transportation because they can't bother to pay attention to the movement of to vehicle they're supposed to be responsible for, and I'm supposed to be worried about an earthquake that they've been saying is right around the corner since before I was born and they even say they don't really know if the newly-discovered vent is even a problem because it might have been happening for longer than the human race has even existed????? Grow up. Stuff like this is fascinating, and it's not nearly as big of a problem as any of the hundreds of stupid man-made things we take for granted every day.

    All they did was pass some stuff for certain multi story buildings to withstand something close to the big one, but no retrofits of old buildings. If you've ever been in a major earthquake you know it feels like it goes on forever but it actually is usually less than a minute of shaking. Cascadia has been estimated at between 4 to 6 minutes. That will be forever. Good luck to all of us here on the Oregon/Washington coast! 😮

    I remember watching a documentary about that zone. It covers a very large area of the west coast. Parts of British Columbia, Washington state, Oregon state and a large part of Northern California. The worse case would be for the entire part of the west coast to tear away and sink into the Pacific they said. I doubt that would happen in our lifetime but the area is over due for a big one they say based on historical past episodes. We could see a major earthquake out there any year now.

  • @klubstompers

    @klubstompers

    Жыл бұрын

    Yea, happens every 250 years, and we are overdue, but the major one happens every 500 years. When the big one hits, the coast instantly sinks 30' and pushes in land 50'. Even inland as far as I-5 like Seattle/Portland could drop 6' in elevation instantly. They say the 9.0 shaking would last for an entire 5 minutes. Everyone should have at least 2 weeks of water and food stored, because every major road, rail track, and bridge will be impassable. Just don't store the food and water in your house, or you might have tons of debris to dig through to reach your supplies, store it outside or bury it.

  • @yzScott

    @yzScott

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Skott62 There is not a 0.0001% chance. That isn't how it works. At all. The "big one" has happened in that location countless times already. History is long and we're very much newcomers on the scene. If it was possible, it would have happened ages ago. More importantly, our understanding of how geology works provides no reason to suspect anything like that (large section of the coast being lost) could happen. There is nothing for it to "fall into". Where would it go? If anything, this activity is propping up that coast line. This is just the non-sense that people (not geologists) have been saying for a long time. Generally it said about California. It's slightly more plausible there, as SoCal really is on a different piece of crust. But the reality is, San Diego is on it's way to Seattle. It'll get there in 5-10 million years. In the meantime there will be many series of volcanic eruptions but the Pacific NW will continue to be there, just like it has been the past 50 million years.

    This is water being pushed from below the mantel by a subduction zone. Sea levels are rising because of melting glaciers and ice pack at the poles. Even if a huge part of the ocean floor somehow collapsed, it would not change the volume of the ocean or the volume of the mantle. You have the thought process of a small child. If you're an adult, shame on you being this ignorant, if you're a child....stay in school and study real hard.

    Every planet in our solar system has had major climate pattern changes and seismic uptick activity since 2018. Our magnetic poles are moving further out of there normal wander pattern and accelerating. The magnetic south pole is about to leave Antarctica. The magnetic field that protects the planet is weakening at a compounded rate every decade. We have no idea how long this reported phenomenon has actually been happening, and yes it could have been centuries but the information they share doesn't identify if this is an acceleration and is why now it has been discovered perhaps due to the increase.

    @@frog2395 This story comes out now and then. I first heard this story and ones like it way back in the 1970s. There are other holes in the ocean too with similar stories in various locations where they say similar things. For instance, here's a story from the turn of the century proposing a possible solution using "CORKs"... Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute, Jan 1, 2000 > Plugging the Seafloor with CORKs A window into the plumbing system hidden beneath the ocean's floor Hidden beneath the seafloor throughout most of the world’s oceans lies a massive, dynamic plumbing system that is a central component of our planet’s inner workings.
