I never get tired of hearing you proclaim "Release the Quacken!" during very cold (or very wet) weather, and seeing the birds either come out for an instant and go right back in, or not come out at all. I imagine an avian chorus of "Go out in *that*? Nopetty-nope!"

70 yrs old. How did that happen? Anyway . . . grew up rural with chickens, rabbits, pigs, milk cow, calves, Guinea fowl, horses and barn cats. Love you and all the critters.

Mother wasn't fond of dogs. Other than a German Shepherd Husky mix kept track of me when I was a toddler, there were no dogs. Other a goldfish, no animal was permitted in the house. Much, much later on, my father had a Beagle that lived outside and went to work with him every day.

Astrid should be Astrid Lindgreen, she was child book author who also championed that cows should be outside as much as possible and got as birthday gift from the government, a law , making cows life better.

Ginny is perfectly camouflaged to sit unnoticed on a hay bale against the old barn! 😻

With Astrid you have photography-The Beatles. Amelia Earhart you have aviation. And with Alice B. Toklas you have the Paris art scene in the 20s. Well done.

You have a special connection with your farm animals and you interact with them like they are all your pets. That special connection sets you apart from a lot of farmers which is your compassion for them. I like the names for the new cows, except Amelia Earhart didn't have a daughter according to her biography.

So many thing you do connect the dots for me now. Growing up, when I would spend time on my grandparents farm, I’d watch my grandmother take the bowl of kitchen scraps, at the time I would have called it garbage, take it outside and toss it over the back fence. No one ever mentioned why. They had free roaming chickens, or maybe it was a compost pile. This was a long time ago. It wasn’t until I started seeing you give the scraps to your chickens and pigs that I remembered.

Suggest you purchase some 2-3 inch plastic pipes. Saw them in 1/2. Wire them up on the proper drainage angles and then lay your water hoses in them. Do drooping so no puddling and mid hose freezing. Plus….. as long as Baby B is suckling at all….. momma won’t get pregnant. Let her cycle if you want the additional calf.

If you make the rungs for the roosts out of 2 by 4 with the 4 inches being the top flat part. The chickens are able to sit on the roost and keep their feet warm, saves frost bitten toes when the weather gets cold overnight. Also angle the roosts like a swing set so they are not above each other

We have the opposite here in Sydney Australia it’s going to be 38°C /100°F. It’s been 48°C/ 118°F out in the top middle of New South Wales. I thoroughly enjoyed the chicken scrap moment of Zen! It's so much fun to give food to chickens. Table scraps kitchen scraps I throw out a handful of greens sometimes. It's just fun to watch.

The fact that the dogs are barking at the neighbours dogs as they walk past, is a sign that they’re doing their job i.e. warning the other dogs to get the hell out of Dodge. They’re not trying to name them, but warning them that this is their territory and to stay away. The cows have the problem in that they don’t have horns, unlike the Hyland stock .

One February in Montana we had temps in the minus 30's F, and windchills of about minus 70F. I live in Arizona now ;-)

I wi🎉sh I was there we have Temps of 34 degrees I am melting in my skin!😢 south africa

Yes! I have wanted this too. I’m sure there are subtle differences in color, horn shape, etc which are hard to pick out when they move around and the scene changes. I know there are probably lots of behavioral differences and personality traits like “boss cow”, etc. that kind of video would be great for kids and your devoted viewers.

I didn’t even think of this as someone who grew up naming every cow in the herd 😅 I suppose it’s like mothers to twins, it just becomes second nature to tell them apart ❤

I'm not a native English speaker, but I'm pretty sure that "remember to drain your hoses" can be interpreted as something naughty, I remember hearing a very similar expression used in an interview by the (in)famous adult movie star Ron Jeremy. I also want to thank you for adding the Celsius temperature values in this video (and hope you'll keep doing that), as pausing the video to use a conversion calculator is rather annoying. We have a normal winter here in Romania as well, with plenty of snow and temperatures ranging from -15 to +5 C (5 to 40 F), which is pretty much average for this time of year in my area.

It finally hit the - 30 - 40 temps 2 weeks ago. But we since went back up the warmer temps again. - 4 to 1 C

It’s 104f here in Sydney so I’m v jealous of your snow.

You can get ceramic heaters for water. Not to take away from any residents, but the canines need it the most since you depend on them so autonomously. I have a cabin with cats and have looked at this myself, even looking at solar reinforced power. Our cats and dogs bring so much more to the table than we realize. We admit to it here and there, but they are our 24 sentries. I hope you look into self sustaining in this area some day.

I have to admit first thing letting the two dogs out, I'd be tempted to kneel down with one on each side to give them cuddles, they're so beautiful. You might wanna paint thst stick a brighter colour, as a white stick against snow, won't be easy for the cattle to see. I've seen farmers use a "Pool Noodle" before pushed onto a bamboo or thin rod, which is much easier for them to see and being foam can be used to tap them when moving, if you have 2 of those, it makes herding them a bit easier as they look like extensions of your arms to the cattle, so they are less likely to try and go around you.

Morgan, I like the more recent pastoral and reflective videos. We've hit -9°c once here so far this winter. The rest iswid and rain with occasional snow. Regards, Stephen.
