New Countries That Might Exist By 2030

Go to our sponsor betterhelp.com... for 10% off your first month of therapy with BetterHelp and get matched with a therapist who will listen and help.
▶ In this video, I talk about The New York Times' List Of Potential New Countries, as written by two opinion authors in 2012. It's important to note this wasn't an official New York Times position or prediction, but rather that of those two authors - Frank Jacobs and Parag Khana. Throughout the video, I go through a few of their predicted countries, such as Azawad - a breakaway state in Mali caused by Tuareg rebellion and focusing on the topic of Berber Nationalism in North and West Africa. The hypothetical of Afghanistan and Pakistan into Balochistan and Pashtunistan, uniting the ethnic groups that are today separated by the countries' border. The Arab Gulf Union, which the authors predicts would mean a Saudi Arabia take-over of the Peninsula, bringing Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, Yemen and Oman under their control via a de facto political and economical union. The potential breakup of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, namely the Eastern provinces of Kivu - which could join Rwanda too - and the Southern province of Katanga - which could join Zambia. Moving on to Somaliland, Somalia's breakaway state and the most likely prediction they made. Presenting a hypothetical scenario for post-internal conflict Syria, where the old regime would be reduced to the coast, creating an Alawite State and mimicking the division of Syria at the time of French Colonial Rule. As well as an independent Kurdistan based on Syria's internal troubles and Iraq's constant instability. Finally looking at the potential of an expansion for Azerbaijan, into the Azeri populated region of Northern Iran, should the latter break up due to a regime collapse.

    I don't think there will be any pashtunistan any time in near future because that thing ended quite a while ago after the fencing of the pak Afghanistan border and development of roads and highways in the area of Kpk which connected the province and made it more united. After the Taliban take over of Afghanistan. The pashtun people in kpk have become anti Taliban because they had seen what Taliban did 15 years ago when there was taliban presence in kpk.

    India warned Pakistan that if there was another terrorist attack like the one happened in 2008 in Mumbai, Balochistan will be split from Pakistan and be a new country. India gives asylum to Baloch freedom fighters and when the above-mentioned scenario happen Baloch fighters are gonna get more training and weapons from unknown entity and finally get to have a new state.

    Considering a lot of those predictions were about the Middle East/other Muslim states, I think it’s important to remember that these predictions were made in 2012; i.e. right off the back of the Arab Spring. Everyone was optimistic that the Middle East would overthrow their dictators and give freedom to their people… yeah, we saw how that went. With that context, it’s easier to see why they thought all those Islamic countries would collapse, which seems unthinkable now.

    Unfortunately, the fact of the matter is that little has changed since the Cold War in terms of foreign powers intervening in the Islamic world. The USA and Russia, and increasingly China, seem averse to increasing democracy in the Middle East, instead seeking to enforce their own interests. I'm genuinely scared about the West and East backing Sunni and Shia extremists respectively. Nothing good has ever happened from foreign superpowers getting involved in complex religious matters they know little about.

    Creating a new state is hard, if not borderline impossible in the modern world. You need significant enough support (because minority uprisings usually fail eventually due to weight of numbers) and for the Great Powers to either back you or not intervene.

    @@lucinae8510 I think the first and the most dramatic error that some westerners make about Iran is that they think of Iran as other middle eastern countries but the huge difference of Iran is that these people are a real nation for thousands of years under the name of Iran (or Persia) and it should be compared to a nation like China in this case not Syria or Iraq which are built based on westerners idea. About Azerbaijan we sould take a look back in the history and see how Aran and Shervam regions (now called the republic of Azerbaijan) were separated from the Qajar Persia. Those people had even some movements to not let this happen but you can't resist in front of Russia at the time. Then you see how the Pan-turkism tries to change the identity of this part by first taking the name Azerbaijan which was referred only to the southern parts of the Aras river (today the Iranian Azerbaijan) and then making a whole new history! That's fascinating to see that the history books for example are so different in the republic of Azerbaijan today even different from Turkey.

    Most breakaways never happen and will never happen. People usually dont realise what brother races are. As a Turk no one can tell me Kurds are a completely different race that needs indipendence. Not because i want a chunky imperialist Turkey but because Kurds have always been with us. Our cultures collided to the point that we are basically the same with small changes. I will always call a Kurd a Turk as well if they are okay with it. Many Kurds would never leave us Turks. There are too many reasons they wouldnt want to. The Kurds wanting indipendence is America spreading "freedom". Before America was spreading "freedom" British were spreading "christianity". All i want to say is if every goverment stopped meddling with our goverment we would have never had an issue in the first place. Any not brainwashed Kurd KNOWS whats going on. Looking at the current goverment if a total collapse happens and European and American Gov. start spreading peace in Kurdish lands i will seriously sell everything i own buy guns and gear to protect my Kurdish brothers from the real imperialists.

    Hey, great video man - Azawad has always interested me! Despite their often tumultuous relationship with colonial French authorities, more than a few Tuareg seemed to believe Paris would allow for the creation of some kind of autonomous Tuareg-Berber state. That never happened of course and I do agree, following the Tuareg Rebellion of 2012, I think it's highly unlikely we'll seen an independent Azawad anytime soon...if ever. There's still a possibility of greater autonomy within Mali, but I guess only time will tell.

  • @amsalkhan4754
    @amsalkhan4754 Жыл бұрын

    In my opinion of these i think 1 Azawad could get independence due to the borders being just lines with no geographical or ethnic components taken in. Just like the borders for the rest of Africa 2 regime change in Afghanistan is likely in the next few decades but unlikely to change borders due to the other countries not wanting to get involved 2.5 Pakistan has been going through some issues but the people from Balochistan kpk sindh punjab and kashmir see them selfves as Pakistanis internal changes will happen but border changes is extremely unlikely 3 the gulf union is extremely unlikely as the monarchies are content with keeping the power and not sacrificing it for a bigger country. Yeman is unfortunately to unstable to even stay together in it own borders sadly. If this union was to happen it would be due to the threat of iran which has clamed since the Chinese reconciliation talks. 4 more Congo's is likely due to reasons in no 1 but at an even larger scale. 5 solmiland is defacto independent but just need approval from Somalia 6 maybe not sure but more possible then others 7 Kurdistan is unlikely as it would cause too many problems for the surrounding Nations ie iran turkey iraq syria because of the kurdish issue 8 greater Azerbaijan is unlikely due to iran be a autocratic but stable country in terms of borders. Internal change is possible but if Azerbaijan gets the north of iran rest of iran may collpase as the are many ethnic groups in iran Sorry this was really long good video though

    1 Mali itself is incredible unstable, relying on the Wagner Group for security now that the French are out. Depending on how Wagner activities in Mali are effected by the situation in Russia, this instability could allow Mali to collapse. 2 both are rather unlikely. PR China will not allow a total collapse of either Afghanistan or Pakistan as its border regions could be seriously effected. Also an independent Balochistan is a danger to Iran as they also control part of Balochistan. 3 Golf Union will not happen. Definitly not now that the UAE and the Saudi's are becoming suspicious of one another. 4 more Congo's is I would say unlikely. Rwanda could in theory officializing its control of certain territories in Khivu but doing that would endanger Rwanda's growth as a regional and continental power player. But DR Congo collapsing in the East is an option jut rather unlikely imo. 5 Somaliland had a strong case but the recent fighting in Las Anod has made people more carefull. As the whole Las Anod region wants to return to Somalia it could be used as a bargain chip but in its current borders it is unlikely that Somaliland become a recognized state. 7 Kurdistan could become independent within Iraq so in that sense it is possible. As a full fledged independent state, it is somewhat unlikely although it is not impossible. If Russia completly collapses the Syrian regime will be in big trouble. Iran does not have the air power to secure Syria so in this scenario maybe. 8 it could happen. If the succesion of the ayatollah will be as messy as it seems to be, Iran will be shaken to its foundation. This would open the door to more protests. Another option is that if a third Nagorno Karabach war happens, Iran acts on its words and join in on the side of Armenia. In this case a Armenian-Iranian defeat could see Southern Azerbaijan become Azeri territory.

    The breakup of Congo may seem logical from an outside perspective, but if you know the demographics of DRC then that theory quickly becomes unrealistic. Unless Congo breaks up into 30 micro states, there will be intense ethnic power struggles in these new countries. Particularly in the Katanga and Kivu regions. Also, any chances of Katanga joining Zambia died in the 60s. They’re too culturally different at this point. As for the Kivu region, the only ties that Kivutians have to Rwanda is the 10% Hutu population. However, given the extreme disdain that the majority of the population has for Rwanda, that would never happen.

    The question when it finally became attached to the forefathers of the contemporary Kurds as their ethnonym or a term of collective identity does not have a clear answer. At any rate, at least until the 17th century, Kurd had not yet become a real term of collective identity, being, rather, a name given to the Kurdish-speaking mass (possibly, to non-Kurdish-speaking similar groups as well) by the Arabs, Turks, Persians, and Armenians. The main markers of identity for this mass were clan affiliation and tribal belonging. Asatrian, Garnik. "Prolegomena to the Study of the Kurds." Iran & the Caucasus 13, no. 1 (2009): 1-57. @xrazi1213 you're happy because germans came together and chose the union themselves. Meanwhile the rest of the world, people were forced to share countries by borders drawn by Europeans for example the African borders made in Berlin. Great example of a union that would work but restricted by current borders is if somalia and somaliland were united with somali region of ethiopia, djibouti and North East Kenya. Then somaliland would not seek independence but thanks to modern day borders people in somaliland are significant minority and therefore wish to separate.

    As a Saudi, the Gulf Union is a very very strong union. A Unification one day isn't that far stretched of an idea and it's something many of us, if not most of us, wouldn't mind, if not support. However, it definitely wouldn't happen through conquest. You must realise Saudis don't want to fight Qataris, and Qataris don't want to fight Saudis. A fight between gulf states would be seen as pretty much a civil war, and no one wants to fight his own kin. Also, one last point. Qatar and Saudi relations are perfectly fine today. I think non-Arabs (specifically non-Gulf arabs) don't realise how interconnected the gulf is. We intermarry very often, the borders between us are open, we share the same tribes, and we consider ourselves genuine brothers. During the world cup in Qatar, Saudis were sone of the highest attendees, when the world up ended, the Qataris were begging the Saudis to say a bit longer after the world cup, just hang out with the Qataris. Yes, a political problem happened. It's solved now. Just like when you fight with your brother, you wake up the next day like nothing happened. Saudis are Qataris, and Qataris are Saudis. Bonus note: There are many songs, sayings, etc, that are very common among gulf states. There is a Kuwaiti song, referencing Kuwait and Saudi, that goes "Two homes as if they are one home, justbborders on a map". A very common saying among Saudis and Emiratis to each other is "One nation, one condition". If you're wondering why its usually Saudi-X relations, Saudi is the only country that borders all of them, and for over half of them, it's the only gulf state that borders them. Also the largest, and thus has he highest diversity, and thus one of the smaller gulf nations can find a subgroup in Saudi that is "closest" to them. Ie: Bahrain and Dammam, Kuwait and Riyadh, etc. To any of my khaleejis reading this, انتم على راسي وعيني.
