where is the best place to buy the roof panels from?

Hello David, you inspired me to get a 2nd hand Conservatory, thanks! One question, how are the 'Beams' (Aluminium box type section which sit on top of windows/Door) attach to the wall of the house? or are they just screwed verically through the frames?

Sorry it seems I missed this comment, yes I just screwed though the frame and itscworks no problem

Awesome solution like no other and a great video. Credit to both father and son team! I have the same problem with my conservatory, cold in winter despite having to two radiators and worse than a sauna in summer. Mine is an edwardian style and the edge of the furthest point is slightly over 3m wide from the wall. Since the sheets come in 3m lenghts, how to overcome the extra width of i think 2-3 inches? If i can get this sorted than I would like to try and find a local carpenter to remove the aluminium frame and do something very similar to yours. Keep bringing us new ideas!

Hi and thanks for the great comment, now to try help. These sheets I use are mainly maid for industrial buildings so can money in very long lengths so 3m is small to some that's out there, as for cost ? I got cheap as my size is too small for most industrial buildings so I would look around and you could be lucky or buy 7m lengths and cut them

@@dmgladden Hi David, touching base again for some advice. It turns out my conservatory frame is made of UPVC and I spoke to my local roofer whom I have used for reparing my leaky roof gutters and repainting of the facias. He said it is not advisable to put screws into a UPVC conservatory frame as it will seriously weaken it. Is your conservatory also UPVC? I see you have used 2x(2x4's) sandwitched planks together in the front of the window frame. How are they attached to the top of the frame, did you use some sort of epoxy and glue? To complicate things, I have a P shaped conservatory and I spoke to a couple of suppliers and they said I should provide them exact external dimensions of the frame so they can order the roof panels factory cut to size.

@@MP-mu1kw Hi good to hear your moving ahead with your plans, as for the timber frame I installed around the top I screwed through from within the window openings and I can't see your man's reason for saying screwing through the frame will weaken it as that's how all the units are attached to each other and how it's fixed to the floor and house wall.

@@dmgladden Thank you for your reply. Yes, you make a valid point, I think what he might have been referring to is screwing the planks of wood from the top into the UPVC frame, which I guess makes sense because it would not have any metal plate inside for the screws grip into. But now that you mention that you screwed from underneath through the windows into the wood that give me hope and well done for figuring that out :) In my case I only have 4 ventilation openings and a doorway on the side like you have, the rest of the windows are fixed. So am I right to think I would need to remove the windows and refit them after screwing into the planks from underneath? The only one other thing that is niggling in my mind is how best to join the planks together for the of the P-shape (3 sections), would it be best to do angle cuts or use batton joins and shave off the edges?

@@MP-mu1kw Hi yes I would use halflap joints and shap them, but joints won't have any strength, and I agree remove glass and fix timber for best result. Good luck and enjoy

Great idea... What blade are you using to cut the steel, I've the same DeWalt saw...never dawned on me it could cut steel

Hi I do show you in the video you need to avoid skipping lol look a the before I start cutting and pause when I show the blade case all details are there, and yes it's great it the first time i have used such a blade

when you join 2 panel together is it a tight fix and when yo sucure them together d you crew into the inslation

Yes and I put a bead of mastic down the top edge of the joint and use self tap screws on that top edge

Yes I can see a reason it would work but as it's directl6connected to the roof in my case I would be reluctant to walk on the roof after as it would crack the plaster, if you want to do so you would be best making it a bit higher so you could fit a stronger frame and not need to attach it to the roof

Thanks for that David. Considering a similar roof for an asbestos garage roof replacement. Can you add details of where you bought them, cost and delivery etc? I'm in Scotland and places that i've looked at can supply panels at about £100 per panel for 75mm and I need 5 panels but delivery was going to be £600 ! If I could get the panels delivered more cheaply then I am actually considering building a whole shed out of them since they are so strong and since wood is so expensive these days...

Hi I got my panels a bit cheaper at 100mm I paid £250 for 6 x 3m but the delivery was a killer at £250 but till overall I paid £500 for all 6 check ebay that keep popping up I got off cuts from a guy on a site in East England

I saw@@dmgladden that Kingspan also make insulated panels with faux tiles on top that look incredibly real. If these last a similar time to actual tiles then they will be a game changer when it comes to re-roofing houses, given that the majority of the cost is presumably labour. Could probably strip and re-roof a whole house in same day!

prices have gone up sharply for all steel panels,as for delivery cost, if i were you id hire a trailer for the day and pick them up, much cheaper.

ive used these panels a few times now, my supplier tells me at 100mm thick you can span 4 metres without rafters, the thinner panels , i think they come in 40, 60, and 80mm thickness im not sure about, but your roof will be fine at 2,7 metres. best thing about this roofing is your building can be dry in as little as 2 hours.

Yes i guess it could but i feel a slight give at this span im not sure i would be so confidant at 4m im sure it will hold its self but i wouldn't want to play on it

How dud you cut the ridged side of the sheets, you didn't show that...was thinking if it drops where a bump is, how do you keep the saw level?
