John D’Eri started Rising Tide Car Wash with a mission: to create an opportunity for his autistic son, Andrew, and other neurodivergent adults who are often overlooked by employers. Not only have they succeeded in this mission, but they’ve built a 3-location, 7-figure business in the process. Co-founder and COO Thomas D’Eri explains how to start a car wash with this kind of profit potential in this episode.
The D’Eris didn’t have any experience with running a car wash before they started Rising Tide. That’s the main reason they bought a struggling car wash business instead of building one from scratch, and that turned out to be a smart move. We’ll learn how they brought that first location back from the brink of failure in this video. They’ll also share the mistakes they made along the way and the lessons they learned that help them grow their second and third locations from the ground up.
Inclusive hiring remains at the heart of Rising Tide’s mission, and is a key cornerstone of their success. Tom has even written the book on inclusive hiring and the benefits it can bring to businesses, The Power of Potential. They also started Rising Tide U to provide resources to other employers who want to hire neurodivergent team members. We’ll hear about this program and how they set their team up for success at Rising Tide in this interview.
Whether you want to start your own car wash business or are interested in how to create a more inclusive team, there’s a ton to learn in this video! And if you enjoyed what you learned here, check out some of our past interviews:

    I remember when you could get a car wash for $2.60. Now, it's $15 for the basic wash. The only viable option (really) is the monthly subscriptions. No wonder they're raking in the money.

    Only in America. I'm watching this from the UK and these car washes look more like modern day shopping malls rather than car washes. Compare these to the rundown dirty car parks in the UK that are being used for car washes, there is no comparison. I guess that's why the US is the land of opportunity and the UK is a slum

    Key point here was when he says “when people started to notice what we were doing” meaning, hiring people with disabilities. That was the marketing plan. I could be wrong here but I’ve read this is marketing by Seth goddin and that would have been a technique . Apparently old school marketing advertising is paid ads and today we should be doing more story based getting community involved marketing. I have to do something like this for my business .

    Using brushes like that + the large automatic brushes just scratch the paint. Not a very effective method for detailing a vehicle

  • @ElMono19585

    @ElMono19585

    3 ай бұрын

    This is a common misconception, hence the need for car washes to arm themselves with cameras at the entrance and exit of tunnels. The majority of the time car wash operators will catch the vehicle on camera with preexisting scratches. The brushes at a car wash wouldn't cause a swirling scratch because the machine moves in a constant direction. So instead of being one scratch here and there it would go across the whole car in the same direction. It doesn't pick and choose vehicles at random. And if it was scratching cars it would scratch all the cars before and after you. I've seen plenty of sports cars and g wagons come out perfectly fine. Does that mean you'll never need a paint polish? No, that's just part of vehicle maintenance. This would be more of a maintenance wash than a Proper detail. Detailers don't polish vehicles all the time because it would wear away the paint. Hence the term maintenance wash. The more times you wash the easier it is to clean and detail! Plus it's actually more environmentally friendly compared to the wash at home method. Proper paint preparation and care beats poor performance. Simple as that.

    Still making millions though, if they refined it, ie cut out the the brushes they could easily market it differently and double the revenue.
