The bill merely wishes that those citizens of California who own firearms to be proficient in their use, for safety reasons. Why would you be opposed to a law that wants to insure that those who possess firearms in California have been trained to use them safely? Why is that so unreasonable? Some criminals own guns legally, some don't. It's actual a completely flawed statement to say criminals don't follow any laws and never will I would actually argue that it's just the opposite. No one breaks every law. A guy selling drugs doesn't necessarily molest children. Guy robbing a bank doesn't necessarily prostitute himself. So naturally, not all criminals break every law, and there are plenty of criminals who own guns legally and follow gun laws. The problem is you are thinking two dimensionally. You think there are good guys and bad guys, which exhibits a childlike understanding of the world. There are nuances to everything, nothing is as simple as good vs bad. I don't support this law, but what your saying is just not an accurate depiction of objective reality.

To an extent many are already complying this is just taking the permit that you had to take the test for to purchase a firearm and extending it. California will make the gun stores implement it otherwise you can't purchase a firearm. Either way it's wildly unconstitutional but that never stopped California politicians.

I have never been a lover of guns. In the last few years I have changed my views. I now think they are necessary to stay safe in California. The police won't come and the criminals are getting stronger and braver.

The US sold more guns under obama than any other president. Nobody’s coming for your guns, youre just getting suckered by the NRA, a for profit company that doesnt give a damn about the police officers and children that are dying from firearms. We’re trying to protect police and children, who exactly are you trying to protect?

Why should they hide it when they know you'll never do anything to stop them? They keep pushing and pushing and all you do is complain on the internet and write letters to your representative (which they don't even read by the way, they just throw your letters in the trash) as if that's going to do anything. And anytime someone comes along to suggest you actually do something, you'll come up with a million excuses as to why you can't engage in any real resistance. The biggest one being "I have a family to take care of." My response to that lame excuse is this: So did those who decided to take up arms against the British. They knew that by rebelling they were putting everything they held dear in danger, yet they still did it anyway because they knew putting their families and livelihoods at risk was preferable to continuing to live under a tyrannical government.

Born in California and raised in California and lived there for 75 years total. I got smart and moved to Utah two years ago. What a difference how state is managed! AR-15 since they’re completely legal in Utah and of course it was shipped to an FFL. When it arrived at the FFL I went to pick it up. I was quickly on my way home with legally purchased AR-15 with a background check that took less than 15 minutes. Of course this new law will pass because the liberal left has a complete majority in Sacramento.

Criminals will be excluded from this requirement because they're protected by the 5th Amendment. If they apply for the permit, they would incriminate themselves. So as usual, laws ONLY apply to law abiding citizens. Not to criminals.

It's a bill to insure that citizens who own firearms have been given the training to use them safely and proficiently. Please explain why mandatory training in the proper handling and use of firearms is unconstitutional. After all, the Army trains their members this way. Is Army training unconstitutional?

@@captaincrunch5878 You may decide that training isn't needed to operate a tool that could potentially end a life, that's up to you. California feels differently. And my point still stands, that expecting people to be trained in the safe use of a firearm isn't contrary to the 2nd amendment

This has to be unconstitutional. We need to find a way to take these politicians to court to answer for their policies.

We do have a way. It's called voting them out of office.

I just got my elderly dad out of the state. He had had firearms hidden away all his life. How would someone like him need to go somewhere and pass someone’s test if he is disabled and does not pay attention to all this? Are we going to start throwing elderly in prison now for not complying? All it takes is a caretaker or disgruntled family member or neighbor to tip off the state that he is out of compliance and “has dangerous guns everywhere” to ruin his life.

I remember always getting laughed at whenever i made the argument that the constitution will be changed. The only reason it hasn’t all been re-written yet is because the parties at play are yet to be satisfied with their share of power. Yet when they come to an agreement, the public will finally be notified. This will only be possible because the US is still a single nation and all states will have to comply regardless

Has California not heard about the Bruen decision? I'm sure they've at least heard of the supreme Court of the United States. They should check out some of their work.

Anyone in California who purchased a legal firearm in the past, already has a registered firearm. Case closed, nothing more to worry about. No matter what some bureaucrat thinks up to harass legal gun owners.

I’ve inherited guns from my grandfather, and will never register them, and I Shouldn’t have to!!!!

I’m glad I moved from California to Florida. I legally conceal carry without a permit and I’m buying more guns. 😂 Love Florida. I don’t mind paying the taxes in a common sense, tough on crime, protects it’s citizens rights kinda state. Our Gov just passed the anti-squatting bill. In Canada we are not allowed to defend ourselves with any weapon. It takes 8 hours of courses over likely 8 weeks and then you have to pass a test to get a licence.

Massachusetts has a FID permit requirement to buy and own a firearm. It'll be ruled Unconstitutional once it gets to federal courts.

Taxing your rights

I think this is where the CA population will follow the path of the citizens of IL on non compliance.

@@helloneighbor11 Illinois has been anti-gun forever...the state tried to set up a registry end of last year, I think the compliance rate about 2%...folks there essentially told the state to stick it where sun don't shine...good on them...!

Maryland requires a license just to apply to buy a gun. Not your drivers license, but a license that you have to have a FBI background check, fingerprinted, and a questionnaire and interview, plus however much they are charging you for this crazy invasion of your privacy and rights.

what happens if you don't do this, what happens to the criminal and teenage thugs cought on the street with weapons , and they don't have this permit ???????????????????????????????????????????

SB1160 is infinitely worse. Annual registration for EACH firearm you own, OR, surrender to law enforcement for destruction.

Neither is going to happen at my house. I'm an American. I know my rights.

I worked in areas of Los Angeles where a lot of the elites live, Beverly Hills, Bel air, Brentwood and places like these. They’re living in a different world then we do, they’re mostly connected, they have friends who know friends who know judges, police chiefs, councilman or someone important, they follow a different set of rules.
