New Caledonia: the humbling ways of life of the Kanak people I WIDE

The Kanak people share a deep connection with nature as well as with their ancestors.
They believe that the land does not belong to the people, for the people belong to the land. As such, they show a great respect to nature and never take more from it than what they need.
Even among themselves, Kanak people show great consideration to each other. When they would like to congratulate or apologize to someone, they offer Kanak money, a traditional gift full of symbolic power.
From the film: “New Caledonia - Men of Roots” from the collection “Connecting Traditions”

We can't take more from nature than we need. We have to leave room for dreams.🐞
