For the UK the Super Tinker is the better option with the slip joint blades. There's also the brand recognition that gives the SAK an air of familiarity. Sometimes over here you can get people asking questions aggressively if you carry a knife that is EDC under UK laws.

You're the first one I've seen to review the Nextool pocket tool/knife. I bought one a few weeks ago and so far I'm pleased. It hasn't & will not replace my Victorinox GAK for my EDC. But for jobs that I may damage or lose it, I carry the Nextool. The yt channel "We all juggle knives" did a review of the other two types of this style of pocket knife/tool. Thanks for the great videos and content. GOD bless and RANGERS LEAD THE WAY 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🦅🦅🦅

The Super Tinker is great, and was my first choice for a SAK, superseded more recently by the Compact. The 2 and 3 layer SAKs pair nicely with Leatherman multitools. I find that the scale tools on the cellidor SAKs (toothpick, tweezers, pin; and it the case of the Compact, the micro screwdriver and pen) are the real selling point for me - so much so that I don’t carry my ALOX SAKs very often, even though they are really classy tools. I feel prepared for just about anything with a SAK Compact, Leatherman Rebar and a Civivi Altus.

I got a brand new Swiss Army knife from a pawn shop still in its plastic package similar to the super tinker but without scissors and the hook tool next to the screw driver mine also has a small hole under the screwdriver that would have a small pin but mine didn’t come with it is that normal or is it a separate item

I own the Ruike m21, m31, m42, m61 and a Böker tech tool city 5. I modified an inline victorinox philips screwdriver to fit the M61 replacing the angled serrated blade and it's now perfect ! Main blades are better etc. I added(modded) small crockscrew drivers to fit the Ruike ! Really completes the thing !

I have one of these NexTool multi tools - all the tools work well and the (One hand opening!) blade is very sharp. For around $20 you really can't go wrong with one of these. I also like the fact that the tool itself is a bit longer than a Victorinox so the tools can be a bit longer.

I still think the Victorinox SAK is very hard to beat, they are so well made. I had a cheap Chinese knock off of the Swiss Champ once, which eventually disintegrated, and I have had various other non Victorinox pocket knives as well. People complain the steel is not state of the art Fireball XL5 or whatever but seriously I have had leatherman tools, some good some bad and more than one that has broken, and a Spyderco that have broken so all in all my reliable goto is an SAK. Super Tinker is certainly a nice one, and I use mine regularly, my other favourite to carry outdoors is the relatively recent Farmer X which ticks all the boxes.

The super tinker i gifted my grandpa this year, he introduced me to saks when i was 6 or so, that was many decades ago:) i think competition is a good thing but getting the quality with the good price and a lifelong no bullshit warranty is almost impossible to beat. Yea the design is oldschool and bland when you are 20 or so, but getting older you apreciate the timeless look of it, big plus, its very friendly, so no one freaks out, not even the brits:P and i got to love the soft steel, sharpens very well, almost imune to rust, in many ways better than modern high end steels, those need way more attention when sharpened.

So there are several models of the Victorinox knife that offer an in-line Phillips including the explorer and even more so the cyber tool but depending on which one you choose they can be a little bit too a lot more expensive. The Explorer runs around $35-$40 but has that feature in addition to a few more tools that are not on the super tinker. I found the saw to be very useful for many things. I also like the Huntsman which is basically a super tinker that also has a saw.

Let's assume that the Nextool has good quality steel........now lose the can and bottle openers. Replace them with a good wood saw on one side and a diamond/regular file on the other. On the other pivot, lose both items and replace them with a standard 1/4" hex bit exchanger. Now you have something worth bragging about. What is it with all these companies hanging onto old, tired implements on their multitools? If you really need to open a can or bottle, there are multitude ways to accomplish this. At double the price you mentioned with good steel, I would buy the version I just mentioned. I know that this tool has limited space but, one archaic tool I would keep is a 5/16" flat blade driver. Useful in many prying ways. Thanks for sharing.

A couple of thoughts: I recently purchased a similar tool from BiBury, for around 15 dollars...There is a place for a tool like this, but I think it is a place that is different, a different pay grade, so to speak. Lets deal with the Tinker first: given the relative size of blades, etc, I prefer the Midnight mini champ: You get a comparable (or better) tool set, that fits on a keychain. Any difference in blade size, between the two models is negligable and the second blade architecture on the mini champ is exceptional, allowing different cutting tasks as well as a back up blade capacity. When you compare this Nextool I think it also is in this range... and I certainly would not expect a swiss army tool in this range to drive sockets... I think you carry the next tool up for sockets, and more elaborate tasks. Given this relative range, I can see a place for the Nextool, which is the reason I purchased my small EDC BiBury, but when carefully evaluated? this place imo is at best am adjunct, perhaps a blade centric function, to compliment the tool set on a Victorinox Tool. Just my two cents!

Even among all the good dedicated locking folders, compact fixed blades, and quality multitool options available today, I do love a good super tinker (or the same SAK model but with a corkscrew). Although the victorinox Compact comes close to dethroning it, I need the reamer/awl (plus the Compact is more expensive). I find myself gravitating towards the Pioneer X or the Super Tinker when I want to go minimalist. And let's be honest: do we really want something to dethrone victorinox as a worldwide recognizable brand? ;-) And let's be

They both come with the adapter with bits and you can get a extension for under $20. Also a square 1/4” female to 1/4” female socket make a perfect adapter for about any multi tool with a hex bit set and extension makes a very good budget fit. I went to order it a little after your video aired and it was already sold out. Hopefully they will make the small changes and get it back on the market.

Seeing the review, seems to be a very good tool, but if i could choose some improvements, one will be a full size file, and the other would be a locking screwdriver. I have messed up my finguers so many times with even Victorinox, so i dont trust in any unlocked screwdriver...

To be honest I would like to see something in the vein of nextool's knife but with no knife and large scissors like the black knight MT, as for this tool, you should have tried it with those bit kits on chinese tools. But to tell more about that somewhat minimalistic tool so instead of the knife I want a T shank adapter and on the other side it should be an utility knife, inside i think a bit driver, the large scissors a hook, a rimer, pry tool and a mini hammer...

I'll vote for the SAK due to the extra scale tools and the advantages on the next, inline drive and locking blade, are better services by dedicated tools. Pocket tools are for one quick job not to finish a project.

While the description says "tool only" it does come with one each of a bi-metal kzread.infoUgkx0vyBwjtx9GGOuiqUVT2sRoYqmDoNT_RI and HCS blade plus an adaptor plate for non-DeWalt blades. Wish I had known that before I bought the blade kit, but oh well. Since I already have a DeWalt drill, charger and batteries there was no need to buy more of those so this was a great deal. There is one other consideration. DeWalt does't sell the depth guide separately so you need to buy the three parts which make it up -- the N275350 block assy, the N275341 metal rod and the N278801 knob. Amazon does sell all three.

"Toothpick, tweezers , big knife, little knife and file." these for me are my go to EDC needs. If I need a pair of pliers 1s a month thats odd and keep a tool box in my van, barn and home. And 1 of my vehicles is with me 99.9% of the time with enough bugout gear to live a week or more. So give me my "Rat2"and a "Old Timer" or money clip with a nail file. I am using quite a number of NexTool and the general impression is good. I got this tool also and the comment is similar: knife and scissors are all good while the file is really below average. One missing point is it lacks of tweeter which is one of the most used tool in my super tinker! Anyway, thank again for the review!

Sorry to resurrect, but although I'm not surprised by the comparison, I am shocked by the number of people who think the Tinker is the best base multi-tool pocket knife offered by Victorinox. IMHO any knife with a perpendicular philips head (or any other driver) is almost useless. Rarely do I find a real world situation where I can use a driver of that "T" design and almost always require an inline driver design. That's why for me the Victorinox standard/GOAT is the Explorer. Yes, it's a step up in layers, weight, size, etc., but it's at least a 100% more real world usable design, including a perpendicular corkscrew, which is (again, IMHO) the only tool that should be positioned perpendicular (because that's the only one that needs to be). So, in this comparison, I would say the Nextool actually has at least one more significant benefit over the Victorinox. Does the Nextool beat the Victorinox Tinker because of these? Doubtful, but the Nextool definitely doesn't beat the Victorinox Explorer.
