New Base Defense Mechanism is like an INVISIBLE WALL! - Scrap Mechanic Survival Mode [SMS 51]

Ойындар

Welcome to another episode of Scrap Mechanic Survival Mode! Today I am experimenting with a new base defense mechanism. Inspired by the boss launcher from the last episode, I wanted to see if a similar concept could work to keep bots away from my base. Turns out it acts almost like an invisible wall when applied correctly!

@@Mr_Chest great idea, but then you could completely surround the base in these heads and you would already be safe from low level raids. Saws and drills require a decent amount of metal, and to surround the base you would need a LOT of them, but it's worth the effort.

In theory, you could make a “teleportation machine” where it drops a seat onto wheels and it launches the seat to somewhere in the world, and the more bearings you power the farther you go. You could set some to launch you almost anywhere in the world(in theory). That would be crazy.

@@poo2137 It would be a very useful and cool part. I mean, there's a daylight sensor in Minecraft, and I feel like it would work _SO_ much better in Scrap Mechanic than in Minecraft, because the enemies in Minecraft that spawn at night don't actually attack your base, they're just kinda there. The only MInecraft applications for a daylight sensor that I can recall are lights that turn on during the nighttime to make up for lack of natural daylight, and some automatic farms; and that first one is more of a cooler-looking novel alternative to the _much_ cheaper and always active methods, like torches. And that is my overly long way of saying: "Cool idea, I very much agree."

@@crazyjaygaming9858 Yeah, I usually watch videos a few days or even weeks after they're uploaded, so I consider myself "early" if the video is only a few hours old; and before I had an account and could subscribe to people, almost all videos I watched were years old, and I still frequently watch videos that are multiple years old. I think the earliest I've ever been on a video was two minutes after it was posted, and that was actually earlier today. There were only 12 comments at the time, so I had time to tell all of the "first" comments that they weren't actually first, because I could just switch it to sort by most recent and scroll to the bottom comment to see which one was actually first. Although I will say that being early can be fun for about a minute because you get to constantly refresh the page, and after each refresh most of the numbers (views, likes, comments, and sometimes dislikes) continue to skyrocket. And that was an unexpected wall of text originally intended to just be a fun comment...I seem to do that a lot...

I know it's kind of an older video, but some thoughts. Perhaps just some experimenting in creative mode instead of revisiting survival. 1. Two layers of wheels (expensive in survival) interleaved, with the second layer in the gaps where the blocks are. 2. A wheel pen: Once the first wheels are activated, a second row a bit further back lift up out of the floor, and the bots are flung back and forth until they go poof. 3. Swept sensor array: Set sensors on bearings, controlled by controllers, on a loop. Have the sensors swing back and forth, with overlapping ranges, from the overhang. Zero chance of totebots, haybots, farmbots (maybe launches might?) damaging the sensors. 4. Put the wheels on pistons, and have them spin AND thrust upwards. This last one is kinda out there, it might not even actually work fast enough to matter.

Maybe you could protect the sensors with a warehouse key instead of just tier 3 metal for optimal protection

The wheels in your first tiny test were one above the floor, which is why it worked so well while the next few tests didn't. Also, try defending the sensor pillars with warehouse keys so if a boss does come, they won't get destroyed.

22:20 If you used a vacuum pump to harvest the crop, you could have it feed into ammo containers instead of chests. But only when farming potatoes. Since ammo containers will only hold potatoes, everything else vacuumed up will be deleted. Unfortunately you'd need 6 ammo containers to hold the same amount of potatoes as a single chest.

So I meant to comment when this came out. Not sure if you fixed it in the next video. But you CAN use bearings and get faster than engine rotation. You stack multiple bearings, where the rotation from one adds to the next. As the second bearing is already rotating welded to the first ITs rotation then doubles the speed. 5 bearings stacked should be more than enough to have a constantly running trap. And no sensors to worry about

I suggest moving your sensors so they're part of the wall, that way you don't have to worry about bots destroying them. You'd have to have a lot more sensors, but it would help prevent gaps in sensor coverage and protect the sensors as well. Plus they wouldn't need to be fully upgraded, since the distance is shorter, therefore saving component kits.

You can boss proof it by lining the blocks holding the sensors with the warehouse keys. Also, worst case scenario is needing more layers of wheels behind the first layer. But most likely you will need to have a sensor set up higher than 3 blocks over the wheels, as the boss body\head is roughly 5 above the ground and 4 blocks behind their front legs when they run.

On both sides you can make a machine for knocking him backwards essentially. After you knock him back you can distract him and get him to follow you to the Center where you can hop in the seat and get up. The main premise of it is that he can’t get to the sides of the base because you can just knock him back. just an idea...

You can always have the roller pop up 1 block to make sure it catches them, whenever the sensor goes off. One piston on either end, a block, then the roller-bar. Pops up and activates the roller when triggered.

I noticed that the collectors collect all the rods that are attached to the same creation at once. You welded the car to your base, so it counted as one whole creation and took all the material sticks that were welded directly. The ones left were disconnected after some got removed, so they didn't get collected.

I binge-played American Truck Simulator this afternoon. Just in my small Kenworth with the biggest engine, the best transmission and the shortest frame with giant fuel tanks, moving like a bullet-truck and overtaking everything at top speed and dodging traffic along the drive from New Mexico to California while towing a 110 thousand pound CAT behind me. That was sketch AF, like for real XD Edit: I was listening to Gnome Power, the 1 hour remix, on loop.

Could use the wheel thing to make almost a pinball maze for the bots, also you could try sending them up with that wheel trap into an over hang with more wheels to send them out or more up. Also multiple controller to fixed axel of wheels might work too as a leave on

I think you might be having a problem with stacked delay, so the wheels weren't spinning soon enough. On your scale model, you had a small mass, and the sensor was directly connected to the engine, so it spun up quickly and there was no gap between sensing and spinning up. On the larger test, you had a large mass (which you somewhat fixed later), and the sensor was connected through an OR gate, so it took time to spin up, and the sensor had to activate the OR gate, which then had to activate the motor, adding more delay. Normally not enough delay to be noticeable, but when you've only got a fraction of a second to spin the wheels up before they get over them, it would be noticeable. By raising the wheels, you increased the time they were on the wheels by adding a slope, which mitigated the sensor delay. (Don't quote me on this, this is my best guess based on how other games handle this sort of thing)

you probably already considered this, but before you test any trap on a boss bot in a raid, you should probably test it on one in the wild, where the stakes don't involve losing part of your base. you also might need to increase the depth of the bounce floor, as I am not sure if it is large enough for the boss bots. overall a great video. on a more hypothetical level of suggestion, if the wheels seem to be consistently sending bots a set distance at some point, that could be an opportunity to put a row of wheels to launch them into the air away from your base, as they would then be moving in the needed direction for that to work. not sure if the consistency or the physics for this idea exist, but if so, then it would be hilarious
