After posting I could review the HD video and realized the part that flew off is the rear light hood. Be careful when removing models from the packaging. I have contacted Athearn parts to order a replacement piece.

That happened to me once I took the locomotive out of the box and the guardrail popped out of position. Great video!

It's actually a rear bell bracket. At least that is what it is called in the exploded parts diagram. Mine fell off too but I managed to not lose it and superglued it back on.

4141 is a beautiful locomotive...

I’m definitely getting this model. Amazing tribute to one of America’s greatest presidents.

For those who may have purchased an HO scale 2019 Athearn Genesis SD70ACe/AH DCC with Sound (1943, 4141 and 9096), Athearn has not updated the online and in the box manuals in regards to the decoder that has been installed. Pertinent points include: A. Decoder is a Tsunami2 8 function EMD710 Sound Decoder (the earlier version was a Tsunami2 6 function decoder); the 8 function decoder has been shipped to Athearn for about a year, but the Athearn documentation has not been updated as of the release of the 1943, 4141 and 9096 which I purchased in 9/2019 B. There are Four (4) prime mover options (the 6fxn earlier version had 3). These are the prime movers contained on the 8 fxn decoder: UP 4141 SD70ACe and UP9069 SD70AH 0: EMD 710G3A 12 cyl 12-710G3A F59 1: EMD 710G3 16 cyl V1 16-710G3 SD70 2: EMD 710G3 16 cyl V2 16-710G3 GP60 3: EMD 710G3C-T2 16 cyl 16-710G3C-T2 SD70ACe CV123 defaults to 3 in my 1943, 4141 and 9096 All of the prime movers are an EMD 710. Each is from a different locomotive. 0 is a 12 cylinder 710 recorded from a F59 1 is a 16 cylinder 710 recoded from a standard SD70 2 is a 16 cylinder 710 recorded from a GP60 3 is the 710-T2 that is all of the SD70Ace and AH locomotives. This was recorded from a SD70ACe. C. All the lights are LED. A value of 128 should be added to all hyperlight effects to activate LED compensation. LED compensation does not regulate the current for LEDs. It changes the PWM signal being sent to make them look more like prototypical lights rather than LEDs. CV51 (FX3) to CV56 (FX8) default to 128 for simple on off. CV49 (headlight) and CV50 (rearlight) default to 143 ((15=dynolight)+(128)) to make the LED look prototypical warming up and cooling down when turned on and off. D. The ditch lights are wired to FX7 and FX8 (not FX3 and FX4 as is the usual case for the 6fxn decoders). Use CVs 55 and 56 to set up the ditch lights. If you want the ditch lights to flash when the F2 long horn sounds, CV55 should be set to 201 and CV56 to 233 (not prototypical for UP, but still kinda neat). E. Also note that directional lighting control in CV57 and CV58 has bren extended to now accomodate FX7 and FX8. The “64” bit to controls CV55 FX7 and the “128” bit to controls CV56 FX8. i.e. if you want to turn on FX7 in the forward direction, add 64 to the value in CV57, and if you want to turn on FX8 in the forward direction, add 128 to the value in CV57. In regards to ditch light LED brightness, there are brightness CV's you can change to see how it will affect the light intensity. These Brightness registers are CV61 and CV62 and both can be set at a value anywhere between 0-255, Alternatively you could try adjusting the master brightness CV64 anywhere between a value of 0-255. However in a situation where one LED is brighter than the other this can mean the physical LED itself is not seated properly in its housing. This happens when the LED is not pushed far enough into the ditchlight housing. The LED is secured with water based adhesive and can be adjusted by dampening the bottom of the ditch light housing from under the anti-climber, then gently pushing the LED further up into the housing. - per Athearn help. SoundTraxx still markets the 6 function Tsunami2 in EMD, EMD2, and Steam. They have no time frame for release of the 8 function decoder with sounds broken up by prime mover. J. The default function key mapping on the Athearn Tsunami2s is different from the aftermarket 6 function Tsunami2 EMD/EMD2, but either can be remapped to make Tsunami2 function keys perform similarly. Special thanks to Josh Levine at SoundTraxx for doing the research to get us this information. SoundTraxx customer service is very responsive.

Missing piece just above the rear light. Mine was loose in the box and I had to reattach it along with a sanding line on the front truck.

Just got mine about 3 weeks ago. Very nice locomotive. The details though... so breakable compared to scaletrains

Very nice engines

Curious if you have any tracking issues with Athearn SD70 series locos. I know the older runs had issues with derailing due to warped parts of the trucks from the factory. I haven't bought one in a few years but curious if they ever addressed/fixed the issue in recent years?

I got mine a few weeks ago!

4141 is a beautiful engine. Too bad it doesn't fit in my modeling era. 😞

I model the 1970's and I bought this locomotive last week. I don't know how I can run it but I just had to have it. It's my only non 1970's locomotive. It is absolutely stunning.

Wow.. What has happened to Athearn quality control? Those units look horrible with chipping paint, bent, broken and missing parts. They will not survive if they continue with models like these.

Actually from a distance it looks like the presidential seal but it actually says "presidential library and museum".

its the museum seal.
