    For those who have a Honeywell thermostat already: you may save a lot of time installing the hardware. My Honeywell thermostat has the exact same wire connector, which makes my installation extremely easy. Just need to pull the old one out and plug the amazon one in, took me 10 seconds.

    Hello! How did the install go? Did you have RH and RC at the old thermostat? My old thermostat has 'RC,' 'RH,' 'Y,' 'W,' and 'G.' When I go downstairs my to my furnace area I see the same color wires except 'RH' (at the thermostat) is going to 'C' and 'RC' (at the thermostat) is going to 'R.' Does this mean I can get a thermostat with the 'C' option? I didn't want to assume and just get it.

    The “C” stands for COMMON…not necessarily a color. My previous house used a blue for common. My current house (that I used this thermostat) was on black.

    I bought one when it first came out easy to install but had to add a c wire from the furnace the old thermostat was battery operated so didn’t need a c wire so there was only 4 wire from the furnace but furnace has a c wire terminal but after that it was easy I didn’t want to use the c wire adapter, thermostat works really good with the app I like it but some people think it looks to basic for them because it doesn’t have a screen saver on it or led screen but that’s why you use your app I think it’s a great buy for $60.

    I just found this video today January 7, 2022. I would like to comment on the wall plate and wiring base plate. Those are exactly the same parts that Honeywell includes with their Pro series thermostats. I am an HVAC tech. We install a lot of the Honeywell Lyric T6 thermostats. This Amazon thermostat appears to be a collaboration with Honeywell. I would recommend that you buy and install the Honeywell Lyric T6 over this Amazon thermostat. Atleast, take a look at the Lyric in KZread videos first. It is a Wifi intelligent thermostat as well.

  • @lookwhatifoundmedia

    I have the C Wire on mine, or Common wire as it’s also called. That’s the wire I was referring to as “copper” due to the brownish color of it. It helped me remember it was the “C” wire by the color of it being “Copper” in color. However I did not have a blue wire. Yours may be different. You just need to see how your wires are labeled before you pull them out and mark them as needed so you know where they go on the new install. If you current don’t have the “C” wire then you’ll need to purchase the thermostat with the C-Wire Adapter. Luckily mine had the C wire so I didn’t need the adapter.

    I installed mine, but I purchased the c wire adapted because the thermostat said it was required. I took my old one down and discovered the extra wire was a c wire. so I'm gonna return the one I bought. Now after installation, my phone did not set up the thermostat as quickly as your video did. first it didn't recognize the device, it wouldn't connect to the wifi, or it would get stuck during set up and I would have to reboot my phone and start the setup process again. So, it took longer than an hour due to trouble shooting. but it works now

    Interesting. I have one with (If I remember correctly?) 7 wires and they discontinued the thermostat. (not that it ever worked well in the first place) I've been trying to figure out what to replace it with. (Gas furnace) Old (dead) one is a Honeywell also. Just did the compatibility test on Amazon. Wires are W Y G O R B C. It says no. I did look up what the letters mean and it says O and B is for Reversing valve for Heat Pump systems. Since I do not have a heat pump can I just tape that those off? This is the only thermostat in the house that has this many wires (and the only one that never worked correctly)

    ugh. so my old thermo was only using 4 wires, but there were 4 more available, including copper, so I stripped it and hooked it up. Nothing. no power. The problem is that on the old thermostat, the BLUE wire was hooked up to the WHITE pin connector. So who knows if the copper wire is hooked up correctly on the other end, if the blue wire wasn't already. Guess I'm gonna have to pull it out, strip the black, white, and orange wires, and see if one of them is the "copper" wire, ugh. great video. The hardest part was pushing the wires back into the wall hole. I had to make my hole bigger and pull the wires thru the pin thing and make it flush against the wall first, then connect the wires. need better lighting too, that would have helped a lot. Thanks! edit: I just watched another video that mentioned if the c-wire was not used on the old thermostat, then it's probably not connected on the OTHER end as well, so sounds like I have a hard solution on my hands now, heh.

    Is there a “hold” temperature setting feature for the thermostat?

  • @lookwhatifoundmedia

    @lookwhatifoundmedia

    2 жыл бұрын

    If you mean can you set a temperature and it’ll turn heat or A/C on as needed to keep that temperature, then yes. However, when using the AUTO feature, it only allows a minimum 3 degree range. Example: 67-70 or 70-73. You can’t set it on 72 and expect it to stay on 72. It’ll only allow that small 3 degree range. Hope that answers your question.

  • @lookwhatifoundmedia

    @lookwhatifoundmedia

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good question. In my breaker box I had one labeled as A/C so that’s what I turned off. It should be low voltage anyway but turn off anything in your breaker labeled AC or Heat or furnace or Heat Pump. Leave the old thermostat on the wall so you can see it turned off. Keep in mind your old thermostat may have batteries in it so remove those first so when the power actually gets turned off at the breaker the thermostat will power it off. If the batteries are still in it then it might not turn off letting you know you cut the power. Hope that helps.

I got the Amazon thermostat back in November so I’ve had it over 3 months now and still love it. I really didn’t consider anything else. I liked the price and Smartphone and Alexa integration and went for it. I feel like I have seen some savings on my electric bill but it’s hard to say how much without looking back on previous bills but it seems like my cost has gone down some. For me, the convenience factor is why I got this. I absolutely love changing the temperature from my phone and not having to walk over to the thermostat all the time. It’s been so convenient and other than a couple of occasions where Amazon services seemed to have gone down (My Alexa’s didn’t work either) I’ve not had any problems. Thanks for watching. I’ve made a few different videos on this thermostat so check out my other ones too.

    If you want to set it to auto, can you keep the temp between 72-74 without using the heat?

    From what I can tell if it’s set on auto it will automatically use heating or cooling to get to the desired temperature range. So if you want it to stay between 72 and 74°, the system is going to use whatever it takes to get within that range whether it be heating or cooling.

    do you need c-wire adapter or can you just move g wire to c position and jumper y and g wires. one description says fan will only come on in ac mode and not heat mode. also what is the diff between heat pump and other heating . i have a gas heat unit with a blower , is that a heat pump

    Unfortunately I do not know the answer to your questions regarding the wiring. However, it sounds like you have a gas furnace, not a heat pump. I have natural gas heating in my home so this is not a heat pump and I had absolutely zero issues with this thermostat. But I also have a C wire so if you don’t have that you might need to get the thermostat with The C wire adapter. I don’t know if you can just move another wire around in place of that.

    Thank you for this video. I am interested in the product too. My thermostat wiring setup is same as your thermostat. One question, your didn't connect the loop wire from RH to RC on your new thermostat. Did you experience any issues with AC cooling function. A reply will be appreciated.

    Hello, I have had zero issues. I read online the red loop wire wasn’t needed with this and I’ve had no issues. I often switch between heat and cooling throughout the day this time of year and it’s worked perfectly. I know someone else who had the R loop wire too and they didn’t use it either with this and it’s worked fine. Obviously systems vary but I think you’ll be fine.

    @@ChristianBimmer You should not need the jumper. When you have the little blue plastic piece slid in the up position that basically creates the jumper for you. If you have a heat pump, you might have a W wire. Don’t get this confused with W2, it should just be W. You might want to move that W wire to O/B. That’s where it needs to be for heat pumps. I had to do that on one of my installations for someone else and that fixed their problem with the heat not working.

    I replaced my Honeywell with this Alexa model. My Honeywell did use the jumper between the reds, but all other connectors were the same, so its a very typical setup, for a newer built home. When I powered up and configured the Alexa, and set it on cool (blue snowflake), air would blow, but no coolness to it. I let it run for about an hour, since it was a hot evening and the ductwork probably warmed. I watched the temperature rise a few more degrees before removing the Alexa, and putting the Honeywell back on. Anyone else experience that?

    The colors will vary from system to system so I can’t specifically know what letter your blue wire corresponds with. On your old thermostat, which letter was the blue wire attached to? That should be where you put it on the new thermostat.
