    They’re a beast. I worked as a testing engineer for MacDon and ran the only 50 foot prototype. Ran it all across Canada and the US testing it in all kinds of crops and conditions.

    How come macdon didn’t radically redesign the cutter bar?? Adding a little long section with a little different “geometry” just doesn’t suffice for high speed on ground cutting for these new big combines. Need a redesign more like John Deere - longer stroke and 2 cuts per stroke.

  • @SkiDooer802

    @SkiDooer802

    @@jasonhessels A lot of it comes down to who has patents on things. I wouldn't call it radical but the cutting system is completely new from the FD1. Not sure if you've ran an FD2 or not but the cutting system is significantly better than the FD1, I was able to run at 8mph, running a class 10 combine at max throughput with a 50ft in lentils and cutting was no issue. I ran the header in all kinds of different crops and conditions all over the world and the cutting system was never a limitation. The cutting system has more power than the FD1, no more belts, direct hydraulic drive, knife speed is faster, about 1.5x that of a Deere, and the knife sections are bigger for more cutting surface area. I've never operated a Deere header so I can only comment on what I know of the MacDon and what people that ran my prototype told me compared to other headers they ran and they all liked it.

    It depends on how on even the ground is. These larger heads will flex with contours in the land. If it is steep very on even sharp terrain a smaller head is needed. MacDon FD2s start at 30ft. The company will continue offer a 25ft FD125 for the foreseeable future where smaller headers are needed.

    First of all I really like your videos. But being that I’m not a farmer, I am wondering why on some of the grain carts and some of the steer wheels on some of the combines the tires seem to be on backwards. Maybe this is a dumb question, but is there a reason for this? Maybe this has been explained before, but like you said in this video, there’s 2000 more! So it’s easier for me to ask, then it is to read comments on 2000 videos! Thanks for the quality entertainment.

  • @bigtractorpower

    @bigtractorpower

    2 жыл бұрын

    Good question. Some time I need to make a video on these two questions. On grain carts the tires are pointing to the back for a better ride and less wear on the road. Also if the cart gets buried in the mud the treads are pointing to the way out. Grain carts wheels are not powered so having the tread pointing the other way helps all around. Combines that have the rear tires turned around are 2wd models. Combines with forward facing read tires are equipped with 4wd.

  • @iancroot1388
