With this announced, i hope Yamaha finally steps up and reveals the R9. They both are in the same power range and would end up competing against eachother.

What? Mt09, that would be the engine that's used at 117bhp. The rc8, back in yonder years had 150+ lol the r9 wouldn't even be in the same class

I do hope Yamaha increases the "spice" a great deal on their excellent CP3 engine for the R9. They may not, but I hope they do. They can reduce the torque and shove the power toward the top with cams, valves, compression. It would cost more to de-stroke and increase bore (entirely new upper engine required). Presumably also a slight increase in throttle body bore diameter would help it breath, along with a higher volume airbox. Considering what MV Agusta achieve with their 800cc engine (over 140 hp crank), Yamaha should be able to achieve similar with 890cc......if they want to. Cue all the crying and moaning people if it comes out with the same tuning as the MT.

Now I see why the Duke 990 headlight doesn’t look finished. They’re saving the material to put it into the 990 RC R 👀
need RC1390 with 200+hp that competes with other hyper/superbikes.
@nulla9601

Would be amazing but it's a much smaller market. The 990 was the right choice, especially to compete with the upcoming Yamaha R9 which will most likely be a succes (the MT-09 is a very popular bike for a good reason) and because there are not many competitors in that segment.
@exothermal.sprocket
Ай бұрын
It wouldn't compete with other superbikes. With all the aftermarket de-restriction help in today's tuner companies, the ZX-10R and such are easily over 190 wheel HP and weigh low 400 pounds. That's a very difficult task for a Vtwin to compete with. You can only make a twin cylinder bore so large before it starts affecting things like valve size, time for combustion to fill the cylinder and push down the piston, before stroke completes, etc. Smaller cylinders (and more of them) are more efficient at using combustion to create power, especially at high RPM. You can always just increase torque to ridiculous amounts and keep the power moderate, but good luck figuring out how to put all that twist to the ground efficiently.

No you don't 😂 the r1 and other 1000cc sport bikes arnt selling
103 Nm/75.97 lbft @ 10,500 revs would give 151.8 hp ?? I believe the 10,500 rpm is peak power, but peak torque is a couple of thousand revs lower . If peak power of 128hp is at 10500 revs, torque will be 64 lbft at that point - hp = torque in lbft x rpm ÷ 5252. Sounds like a good bike, hopefully ktm won't make you pay extra for countless things after the 'demonstration period' !

the bike will have 129 hp
Great looking bike as always from KTM but the more I check out modern machines the more I mourn the passing of two strokes? Your uploads always brighten up my day…🙂↔️
Hopefully with this we'll finally see the R9. Especially since it's supposed to replace the R6 in Superbike.
In 2013 I had a KTM RC8R, sold it in 2016 and to this day I regret selling it. Excited to see what comes out of this.
Dude you have the best job in the world 🙌🏼

Love this bike, will let others test the reliability and dealer experience before I dive in. Also want to see what Yamaha and Triumph have to offer!!
If they wanna go after the panigale V2's blood, shouldnt it have around 150 BHP...🤔🤔🤔🤔

I don't think they wish to compete in the 750cc four, high 600cc four, or MV Agusta F3 category of track bikes (where the Ducati V2 is currently running, albeit power restricted). They don't have enough power to compete in the 1000cc superbike class either. Seems it's in the sort of open class where a Yamaha R9 would fit, where the current Ducati Supersport (937cc) is. So much was defined by 600 vs 1000 years ago and those lines are falling apart. There's a sort of in-between range now, less than the 195 hp superbike and more than the 120 hp 600 class.
@h0ij0i
Ай бұрын
the 990 RC R will compete in the WorldSSP class. There are already different manufacturers with different engines. Kawasaki & Yamaha with 4 cylinder and 600ccm, MV Agusta and Triumph with 3 cylinder and 800/765ccm and the Panigale V2 with 955ccm. Overpowered bikes like the V2 are restricted so all manufacturers have pretty much the same power.
@exothermal.sprocket

@@h0ij0i In the MotoAmerica races, the V2 is out front nearly every single race. I don't think the torque spread is fair to be honest, even if they have restricted it to be equivalent horsepower to weight.

my next bike lesgoooo
Nice one Bob. For me, just for the streets (as I already have two track prepared bikes), my money will still go to the GP offering from Yamaha as it has real world road capabilities without having a need to keep it up in the power band.
Being a road-going legal homologated version, the 990 RC R should also reflect the more reasonable price category compared to the track-only proprietary low-volume high return-on-investment stuff KTM has put out. But also since KTM is a tad shameless in their pricing versus the competition, it's going to be in the Ducati price range, more or less. The theoretical Yamaha R9 would cost less, as Yamaha have largely recovered their investment and tooling costs in the MT-09 class with the high sales popularity and can move a lot of those benefits straight over to the R9 version.
Anyone know where I can get that camouflage wrap on the bike in the thumbnail?

“….with dealer support…” Having owned a couple of KTM’s that were complete “problem children”, the key is having a dealer who will will work with the importer to resolve any problems, otherwise you’re screwed 🤨!

I don't beleive KTM's issues are the dealers. My local (JD Racing in Saltash) are great (possibly as an exception). My issues lies with KTM UK who are belligerent and hide behind crap warranties offering nothing beyond for some common KTM design issues where bikes fail.
Cant wait to see next year with the Yamaha and KTM sport bikes. They can''t go to crazy on the prices because of the Panigale V2. Also I think and hope Triumph will realize they have to make some real sport bike soon because the Daytona thing bring nothing to the table with bikes like Aprilia RS660 as competition. Missed chance for Triumph, should of go with the 765 engine.

meh, another budget bike dressed up as a premium bike... why do I say budget bike? well budget bike is a stupid to call an expensive bike, but what is so budget with this is that it is a inline twin, ie cheaper to manufacture than a v-twin engine. that is why, and KTM said in their press video that it was new from the the ground up compared to 990 duke, but it has the same frame, swingarm and engine, even the subframe looks very similar.. Nah... I want a proper new bike not another version of the same one we just got.
