New 2021 Triumph Speed Twin - Revolution or Evolution?
Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары
The 2021 Triumph Speed Twin has just been announced, so I thought I'd take a quick look at the key changes and new features of the bike. Many people were waiting with bated breath for news of a Speed Twin R, but Triumph are keeping their powder dry on that one, so we'll make do with the new revised 2021 model. Here's what we know from the launch.

My bad, I realised too late to change it, that the previous Speed Twin had a DRL!

All good mate..we knew that you knew..just a slip...carry on
You're right about the 100hp, most riders will never possess the talent to exploit any more. For a road bike, that's a good balance of torque and hp.
I really like the bike. I recently went back to my roots and bought a Speed Triple. Even the '10 model with 130BHP is well north of what is "needed" for the road. Whereas my modded '15 Bonnie SE just ain't enough! I think this is the sweet spot in the middle! I feel a 2 for 1 trade coming up in the winter months!
Nice one Tony. Looks great and definitely my fav bike in Triumphs current line up

Wow...a review I enjoyed. Pitched to be informative without being an ego trip for the reviewer.
I've had plenty of bikes with adjustable suspension and never felt the need to touch it. Great updates and well worth the extra £300. I'll have a red one please.
Good stuff :-D Yeah, looks like they've improved it. I guess the suspension is the major improvement. Less black on the exhausts welcome, but as you say they should have finished it off in in brushed stainless steel. Looks like the seat is still an inch too short. It really should cover up the rear bit of frame. I'm still very happy with my 2019 one, and I'm unlikely to empty my bank account to do an upgrade because whilst better, I doubt the new one is that much better. Anyway, it was my first big bike, so I can't get rid of it ! Possibly a bit too much as a first big bike, but I've kept my right hand contained enough so far. I do wonder if they've made the kick stand lug easier to get to, I still find that a nightmare after 2 years of ownership. I moaned about it on all the surveys Triumph sent me ! I totally agree the 96 to 100 BHP , with the Speed Twin's mass of torque is a perfect combination for the road. It's not often that I can pin the throttle, and even then that's not for long, so I really don't need anymore power. Although the red line could be a bit higher , because I do occasionally bounce of the rev limiter.
100% this will be my next bike ... the USDs and M50s are a great upgrade, although some adjustability on the forks would have also been welcome
It's not as if the old was one was a slouch. I agree 100 bhp is more than enough. I used to have a B-King. Way too powerful for me. The Speed Twin doesn't need to be any lighter. A bit of of weight makes for stability, all other things being equal. Did you mention the USD forks? I liked the look of the old ones. Excellent overview.

I have to agree the old forks look better, and they work to!
Thanks for the vid, some nice improvements to an already good bike. I do take issue with manufacturers fitting overly sporty tryes that are great in the dry but less than ideal in the wet, some of us do ride in the rain. Also the matt paint schemes, I just don't get why.
I like the old black and red colour
I do think the new front shock set-up. Looks a heck of alot more sporty and tuff. Keeps your eye on the front longer. Inverted have always been badder looking, though I'm not sure if it truly changes the suspension for so much better. And yes, unless your a track racer 100 hp is just fine for city or highway. It'll kill u maybe a second slower than 160 or 200 hp. With the torque these parallel twins make, that 100 horses will put u back on your seat just fine. Definitely a sweet looking classic look with the suspension and brakes to go and stop.
Love this bike. I suspect the adjustable suspension will come with the 'R' version when it's released.

I consider both
Great. I really like Triumph and Yamah.
I've got the previous model and i'm disappointed. The tank, the matte colours of the clamps for the new USD forks, the plastic end-caps on the slip-ons... It will be better handling from the factory for sure, But you're giving in to the "premium style" in my opinion. I'd opt for getting the previous model for a nice price and use the spare money to upgrade that bike's suspension to fully adjustable suspension at your preference. BTW: The 500 extra RPM was already available on the previous model, but is restricted by software. A tricky way to market a better version.
I like the improved brakes and wheels but allthough the usd forks looks good it should have been fully adjustable as should the rear shocks but that is a relatively easy, although often expensive, fix.
Looks like the new version is aimed at those who want more performance on the track. I have never found my 2019 Speed Twin lacking on performance and front end control. I agree it needs more adjustment for the rear shocks.
As I know an additional catalyst are placed in the end silencer. is it right? if it is it will be illegal to change exhaust in my country. 😱
Triumph so cool!
Nice looking motorcycle.
Great video update. I agree over 100bhp on UK roads you have to be riding a bit of a wally! I couldn't see on your channel if you have review the z900rs.

Nice informative video I'll tell you what though, I wish Triumph would bring in a sport tourer of some sort, maybe using the old Speed Triple motor? I have a Tiger 1050 but it's ancient now and really needs an update.

Yes Nigel, the new Speed Triple with a fairing and luggage options would be just the ticket. It does seem though that Adventure Tourers are gradually wiping that category of bikes out?

@@mancavemoto Agree and it's a shame because Kawasaki make a killing with the Z1000SX - wasn't it the top selling sport tourer in 2020? I've had a number of Adv bikes - Super Tens, GS's and so forth and am a bit bored of them (I'm pretty spoilt, let's be honest) c'mon Triumph, do us proud son!
@karlosh9286

I totally agree. About all they had up to earlier this year was the Tiger Sport 1050cc, but that's now gone post Euro 5. Plus it was a bit too tall and big for my liking. With the Tiger 900 and 850 they've "twin-ised" the triple engine with the T plane crank. I prefer the regular triple engine, much smoother. I expect the Tiger 1200s will go the same way. I guess someone likes the T plane crank, but that's not me. About the only sport tourers I can think of are a couple of Yamaha Tracers and the Kawaka Z1000SX. Triumph are missing a trick.
It looks like an up-spec Street Twin now. Minor performance enhancements at the cost of what was a better-looking ride; the gaiter forks suit it more (and weren't bad), the older wheels look better, and I think it's just plain fact to say that the older tanks with their hand-painted coach lines were far (far) nicer.
@mancavemoto
3 жыл бұрын
Hasn't the Speed Twin always looked like an up spec Street Twin? But I admit I was a bit 'meh' when I saw the updates
I really don't know what to make of it, has me visually conflicted and confused. I like it, then look closer and don't like it, then look closer still and like it again, then even deeper and don't like it, then.... and so on. In drawing a vertical line down from where the tank meets the seat my cross eyes see two different bikes glued together. Or maybe it's the sicky outie header pipe unbalancing the shape.. dunno.. can't quite put my finger on it...

There’s so much I love about this bike… and then it still leaves me cold. Maybe it’s the boring color/graphic options? But then that makes it that much easier to throw a custom paint job on it.
So I guess the Ohlins and £3000 price hike will be along NEXT year.
Just watched the reveal
Genuine question: why buy this when you can get barely used thruxton with better specs for 3k less apart of clipons which can be changed anyway?

A good point, but some might not like the riding position, which is not than just the handlebar position
So basically, they made a few small tweeks just to be euro 5 compliant. Probably worth holding on for the 'R'

IMHO, if you are gonna put an USD fork on the front end, you may as well put a monoshock on the rear. Me personally? Just spend the time and money on as good as you can get RWU forks and twin shocks.
Great review from an always great channel. Thanks for such good content. Took delivery of mine finally and it is a pure joy to ride and just a classic looker! LOL the dick swinging contest...it's hard to imagine 200 hp beating a Speed Twin around the City.

Front brake calipers (brembo M50) is overkill 🤦♂️ and it could do with some decent rear shocks, triumph cheaping out as normal...

Same with the Street Triples: black, white, silver and all with red accents stickered everywhere. Also they got rid of the Scrambler XC tank graphics which was a real looker and streamlined them to all XE graphics which are pretty bland.
I think I’m probably alone in this opinion…… But it just doesn’t look as classy as the outgoing bike
This has all left me feeling a tad disappointed. It looks like I will be buying a low mileage Thruxton R for sub £8000 and sticking an LSL high bar kit on it

I`ve got a 19 Speed Twin, and to be honest, i won`t be trading it for one of these, it`s just not worth it. The new model does look nice, but no better than mine, except for the brushed stainless silencers, i`d like them on mine, BUT, that`s doable with many hours of scotchbrite, some people have done it, and it looks great.

You must be in Triumph's pocket because the previous bikes chassis was a tragic excuse for suspension yet you say it was a good handling bike.

I'm in no ones pocket. I'm not sure what 'the previous bikes chassis was a tragic excuse for suspension' means, that sentence doesn't make sense, but in terms of the modern retro range, it was a good handling bike, given its reasonably basic suspension set up.
No Fing cruise control 🤣 Triumph is loosing the plot.
