New 2021 Skoda Enyaq iV electric SUV review

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

The new 2021 Skoda Enyaq iV is an EV SUV that rivals VW's ID.4, Ford's Mach-e and the forthcoming Audi Q4 E-Tron, Nissan Ariya and Hyundai Ioniq 5. Jonny Smith reviews what could be the best EV family SUV yet, with up to 333-miles range and interior space like few others. Is it better than its VW brother? Well, Skoda seems to be getting a bit too good these days. Like Lidl and Aldi, they are almost the acceptable badge of honour for the middle classes.
Thanks for stopping by The Late Brake Show.
The Enyaq iV, then, is a rebodied VW ID.4. It uses the same MEB platform and has two battery sizes to choose from:
62kWh (58kWh usable) called Enyaq 60 = WLTP 256 miles
77kWh (82kWh usable) called the Enyaq 80 = WLTP 333 miles
While every 62kWh battery version of the Enyaq iV starts from £31,500 so qualifies for the £2,500 government plug-in car grant, 82kWh battery pushes the Skoda beyond the grant’s threshold of £35k (£39k), resulting in a jump in price of around £7,000. Sportline from £43k. Just don't be tempted by the latter.
True rivals for comparable size are: ID.4, Audi Q4 E-tron (as same platform), Ford Mach-e and forthcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5, Nissan Ariya and (in UK at least) Tesla Y.
CHARGING
60 model =
Rapid charge 55 mins @ 50kW or 35 mins @ 100kW to 80%
Wallbox 9hr 30 to 100%
80 model =
Rapid charge 1hr 10 min @50kW or 38 mins @ 125kW to 80%
Wallbox 13 hrs to 100%
DIMENSIONS (versus rivals)
65mm longer than ID.4.
4mm higher than ID.4
27mm wider than ID4
Shorter than Mach-e, Ariya and Ioniq 5.
Enyaq 4649mm long, 1879mm, 1616mm high, 2765mm wheelbase
ID.4 4584mm long 1852mm wide 1612mm high 2766mm wheelbase
Nissan Ariya 4595mm long 1850mm wide 1660mm high 2775mm wheelbase
Mustang Mach-e 4714mm length 1882mm width 1625mm height 2984mm wheelbase
Ioniq 5 4635mm long, 1890mm wide, 1605mm high, 3000m wheelbase
BOOT SPACE (versus rivals)
585L boot
Boot space VW ID.4 = 543L
Ford Mach-E = 402L + 81L (froot)
Nissan Ariya = 468L (2wd model)
Ioniq 5 RWD = 531L + 57L (froot)
POWER AND PERFORMANCE
The Enyaq iV 60 (58kWh) = 177bhp electric motor, 0-62mph in 8.7 seconds, top speed is 99mph.
Enyaq iV 80 (77kWh) = power upped to 201bhp, 0-62 8.5 seconds, while its top speed is identical.
As tested from £40,660 but with options this exact 82kWh Suite edition is nearly £54k. Yikes.
More performance will come in iV 80X version, which will have twin motors for 4wd and 306bhp / 460nm. Still slower than Ioniq 5 and nowhere close to Tesla Model Y or the Ford Mustang Mach-E.

I've been enjoying my Skoda for five years, it's going fine. I do find it more desirable then the ID.4. I quite like that silver paint as well. I dislike the fact that only 50Kw charging is standard, a big let down in my book. If you want to get people to switch to an EV, the biggest concern is still range and charging. I would probably get something else if I'm shopping EV with a 35K budget but it's a good option. I think you handled the Continental sponsor in a really nice way, I honestly had no idea they made a lot more then just tyres. Nice of them to give you that list. Properly excited for the Hyundai review. Cheers

Hey Jonny, love your shows your a proper car guy, in the 500 review you laughed at Sherpa for the exact same reason as me the old work vans haha. Also really enjoy the reviews, the barn finds and your projects. I happen to be rebuilding 1 of the said RWD boxes in my garage its a 1976 Skoda s100 original UK car found in an old lockup.. Keep up the excellent work my man 👍🏻🤙😁😎

@@TheLateBrakeShow but then you’re spending £35k on an econobox which just feels..odd. At least you have a bit more flexibility in options if you don’t want to be forced to buy ‘packs’ containing stuff you don’t want. I’d want active cruise, reversing camera and 360 surround and that starts to get expensive. Q4, Ioniq 5 and Ariya look interesting

My thoughts: 1. Thanks for a great review, as always! 2. +1 for the suggestion to add metric conversions as popup info graphics. 3. Yes, I would take this over the ID4. At least you get dedicated window switches 😁 (also need all 5 seats, so size is perfect. Would consider Q4 and Model Y) 4. Yes, the name is derived from the Irish name "Enya" 5. Just give us the Ioniq 5 review already! 😋

Another great review Jonny, I'm actually quite impressed by this car, one of the reasons being you can spec some interesting interior colours. You're absolutely right about those flipping option packs, they make it too complicated for the potential buyer and deliberately leave out logical combinations so you have to have several packs and push up the price. Being of a certain age I remember the likes of the Estelle and the Rapide, oh dear! I have asked myself if would I buy one of these, probably not, but not because it's a Skoda, it's just difficult contemplating ever not having one of those heavy things from Solihull.

Great review Mr Smith, I love the simply clever touches on our Fabia or the ice scraper which is on the fuel flap and the ticket holder on the windscreen. I love the look of this but as a Skoda owner and Enthusiast it's a bit pricy, one thing putting me off getting another Skoda. Skoda was always the budget brand of the VAG stable but it's defo up with the big guns now.

Great unbiased review for the common man. The Skoda for me is far more practical than the VW and looks better. Share the concern over the stupefying options list, get the model you need with minimum options, keep it under £35k, to get the £2.5k grant. I'm @ 0:22 and the intro is actually overwhelmingly beautiful! Scenery, lighting, the way it is filmed and the score are a match made in artistic heaven, all bang on! I'll pick up my jaw now, so I can stop drooling and enjoy the rest of the review. Johnny is one of the few of the plethora of channels I subscribed to, who make it to the major league of my YT addiction. Thank you so much for sharing your artistic heart and soul with us, Johnny. Seriously. Edit @ 14:06 Skoda has fallen for the bookkeepers wet dream of calculated misery. What a great review to stand up and stand out. I always loved Skoda, drove an Octavia and loved it to bits, still we have a Fabia rocking on despite its age. This simply is the way you don't want to go as a "peoples brand" I would say. Remenber this: Calculated misery. A brain child of the aviation industry when they consulted Midas for help. They came up with this insulting looting strategy. Edit @ 20:54 is this possibly Skoda reels edited in? Hope not, lets see... Otherwise great review. Edit @ 25:17 Clearly not. Damn, well done mate!

Thanks for the Video. We have ordered the Skoda Enyaq iV 60. And we love the variaty that Skoda offers with their configuration options. And you can get some nice discount in Germany on the iV but nothing on the ID family as you buy the ID cars directly from VW and not from the dealership. Mustang Mach E is way too central screen focused. Right in your face. Hyundai ioniq 5 is more expensive and not yet available. And yes, maybe I still like some buttons and traditional user experience. Aerodynamics is quite good on the iV. Perfect family car in my opinion and easier to use with the better interior than the ID 4.
