I agree if Mr Catchpole and his team reviewed anything, it would be well made and interesting from every angle. I love the Carfection reviews.

I don't know why people bother complaining about the M5 getting AWD, it just makes a massive amount of sense given the power and torque figures and the fact it's a daily driver. Audi, Mercedes, Porsche, Ferrari with the FF/GTC4 Lusso and even Lamborghini use AWD. Complaining about it is just false hairy chested machismo, which on the road can be dangerous. We've all seen the F10 get destroyed off the line by lesser models like the RS3 or RS5, let alone a full blown RS6 Performance. This is a fantastic car, BMW customers with the money will buy it, Merc customers with the money will buy the e63S. I don't think either car is going to poach many from the other. I'm sure there are also plenty of buyers who've been waiting for the M5 so they can make an informed choice of which car to buy. Quite frankly I'd be happy with either, but then I can't afford either car so my opinion is irrelevant to Merc and BMW. These companies are in the business of making money so they aim to please their customers, not internet armchair "experts" who'll never even sit in one of the cars, let own own one. Who cares about off the line, I've seen f10 m5s spank supercars on a roll. So easy to get 700hp+ by tuning them. I'm not complaining about the awd, it's nice and all, rwd sports cars have always been so much more fun & raw. Nothing to do with being macho, that's just how it is. Awd bores me to death.

LegendInThaMakin only problem i have with the car is its conplexity more parts to replace if/when something goes wrong 3x the price of a used f10 for nearly the same car except for awd...imo not worth it

Off the line ya m5 can have traction issues but look at 1/4mile times rs6 and m5 set theyre pre close and from a roll(real world) the audi has no chance This use to be audi fanboys main arguement with bmw and benz now they literly have nothing on them

I haven't driven the f10. But I hate it when journalists say the previous car was unsatisfactory when comparing to the new one. But refuse to say this when that car is currently out. I have never heard of a review when the f10 was current that it didn't have the urgency in the throttle. Smh but what can I do but listen, watch and continue with life.

I'd have this over the new (very tempting E63). Beneath all the systems, it seems the car has a wonderful balance to it, and it brings more enjoyment more of the time unlike the last M5.New E63 looks great (from the front) and sounds awesome, but i suspect is a little one dimensional. can't wait for a twin test.

a budget build could be a stripped down interior f10 with the smaller b48 engine. if it can be brought down to 1300-1200kg it should behave pretty good on the track considering the more advanced suspension compared to 3 series

The M5 is totally out of my budget, however I am looking t getting an M4 Comp. But the interior in the M5 is just awesome, and those seats! Wow. Im put off that bmw can't improve their interiors better for class leading M4 too?!?!?!

Absolutely love the new M5, but its not bat shit crazy like the E60 was.

Ha! They are F-Lite 235s (I think there is newer V2 now). The Inov-8 Bare XFs are pretty good too if you want a thinner sole for smaller pedal boxes.

The place is Guincho, Cascais... but yes I get it, it sounds funny when you try to pronounce it.

I'm not sure the front tires are doing all that much when using launch control. Did anyone else see how much the back end squatted when he launched it? The front tires almost came off the ground. To be quicker off the line, it's going to need slightly stiffer rear springs to mitigate some of the squat and to keep the front end from lifting and taking the weight/traction off the front wheels.

All AWD systems should be modeled after this from now on!

Well they could launch them in Germany where they're made and they have areas of derestricted autobahn, which is what these cars are primarily made for. I suppose, apart from Portugal the only other place in the world to launch a new car is a huge city in the UK? SMH LOL, etc.

Is it still a flat plane v8? Almost sounds like an e39. Really diggin the noise and extra gription. Great Vid Carfection.

It's a shame they got rid of the DCT for a 8 speed conventional "sport" automatic

BMW builds now buses. Wait until the new 8 Series gets launched. Hear that they want to leave WEC with the M8 GTE and join the Truck GP Championship.

Looks like a wonderful car, but it better be traded in every 3 years to avoid nightmare repair bills.

Except the F10 didn't take 4.4 seconds to reach 60 mph. It was more like 3.7 seconds. So, still an improvement, but not a full second. Is the engine in the F90 underrated like the F10 was, or are they finally just quoting the actual power of the same S63 engine? 0.3-0.5 seconds sounds realistic to what AWD would allow an F10.

An M5 with X drive?? MX-5 ?? 🤔🤔

jawbreaker according to BMW it matched better with the AWD system. Also the minute increases in the speed it takes to shift was not worth the trade off of less smooth shifts at low speeds

That's bullshit and bean counters marketing excuse. The real reason is that they already had the 8 speed auto that would work with this engine and awd from the x5m. They would need to develop a new DCT that would work with the AWD and they were to cheap to do so. There is a reason why the panamera turbo S has an 8 speed DCT its because Porsche refused to compromise. The only thing an auto is better at is towing and comfort when it comes to a sports car DCT dominates there is no argument its not even close.

EzE Yur probably more accurate. I was simply quoting BMW off the top of my head. Never been a fan of the M5 ever since the change from the E60 V1. It just seems so tame and boring and the interior is so outdaded.

Another prize that takes a M5 to a track to try and convince is it's a great everyday sports car. Please, walk another tight rope, this time in launch control and "f" off!

its already clocked 3.1 sec 0-60, factory is 3.4.

So much better of a car than the M3/M4 is.

Yes it does but the reviews have also said that has come at a penalty since now the e63s is the sharper better handling cars. It looks like M and AMG have reversed roles with the M5 being the more comfortable car with more straight line speed and the E63s being the better sounding better handling car.
