    @@CorruptInfinityOfficial Compared to the Z06 you sense that some of the driveability got lost with the added power and even Corvettes excellent traction management has its limit once the Cup2 ZPs have been used and lose grip. In that respect its more hairy than the Z06. Understeer could be fixed by adding more camber, I hear, because most cars are set up for stability at high speed not turn in. I drove it on the Eurospeedway Lausitz in germany btw, which is a pretty bumpy track but suits Corvettes well. I also drove a ZL1 1LE there, which was fun too👌

    Having driven a number of C6 ZR-1’s I agree that it was not the best C6 by a long shot. The best C6 was the Z06 with the latterly available handling package with Carbon Ceramic Brakes and Michelin Cup tyres. The ZR-1 just isn’t a coherent package. The hood window was a big mistake too.

  • @mkuroglu

    @mkuroglu

    @@mitchmillett9214 z06 was a beast when it came out. for me it still is as I still own a nice atomic orange with slightly modded engine (630hp), which i got down to 2950lbs by deleting radio and few CF bits from Katech and ccw wheels. However, ZR1 out the box was such a big step esp in handling dept due to magnetic shocks. Hell even a ZL1 drives and handles very good out the box imho. So still wouldnt agree with ZR1 being an incoherent package. They are absolute weapons.

    Most powerful production Corvette, period. 755 HP ("under worst case conditions" according to Tadge Juechter, Corvette Chief engineer). In other words high, hot and humid (high density altitude). However, when at or near sea-level, with temps in the 60's and a barometric pressure in the 30's for example? Oh yeah! It's on an entirely different level. >:) On a track I'm quite familiar with, it's 7-8 secs per lap faster than the C8 Stingray (with pro drivers). However, in fairness the C8 is of course a first model year, base model car. And yes, I'm a bit biased. I own a C7 ZR1 with the ZTK option. That includes the PS Cup2 tires, which are nearly magical when warmed up. The grip is insane and you're likely to run out of courage before they run out of grip. They're one of my favorite things about the car. However, less tread = more rubber in contact with the surface = more grip and thus more speed through the turns. Until there isn't any more grip. That is they're somewhat binary at the limit. Binary meaning on the track, then not on the track, with no warning. These let you know when you're near the limit, if you're paying attention which isn't hard since it's very communicative. Btw, I've driven it in the rain once, at night, over a mountain pass when it was new and it wasn't bad. I bought it from a dealer out of state and drove it home. And it wasn't at all sketchy. I had my dad with me and even he didn't utter a word. Btw, he has a 2011 C6 ZR1. Tire wear (again the Cup2 tires) isn't bad considering the type of tire they are and I had my 3rd set put on at 29,411 miles. So roughly 15K miles per set. Far less if the car is tracked. As in a couple of days. So when I say 'not bad' one need understand they're high performance tires with little tread and consist of a relatively soft compound. They're not race tires, but they're close. However, they are insanely fun, as is the car. :D

    @@calebs.2166 It's Sebring orange (the design pkg). My dad's is torch red which is my favorite color and is what I would've preferred, but at the time I couldn't find one. In fact I had a hard time finding this one. However, I was persistent and finally found one in Denver, CO. So I called them and made some arrangements and flew there a couple days later. I took my dad with me so I didn't have to drive back home, alone. That and he's been a Vette guy since before I was born, so had I not I'd have never heard the end of it.

    @@cassiespencer6134 Wonderful! Great job securing the Sebring Orange Design Package! I'm jealous of the orange interior stitching and brake calipers that comes with that package (along with the fact that it's a C7 ZR1 of course)! Torch Red is a great color as well. In fact I owned a Torch Red 2016 Stingray with Adrenaline Red seats before I upgraded to my Z06. So sounds like you guys have great taste 👍! Kudos to you and your Dad! Enjoy your rare and exceptional C6 and C7 ZR1s together. That's pretty cool! I do have a good friend here in town that owns a 2010 C6 ZR1 and so I know up close and personal what a great car the C6 ZR1 is as well!

    @@calebs.2166 I guess I 'inherited' the Corvette bug since he's always had one. First one I ever drove was his 2002 C5 Z06 and it too was torch red. Then he had a 2007 Z06 which was velocity yellow. Ugh! But the bugs loved it!! Since you mentioned the calipers I have to say the brakes are absolutely one of the best things about the C7 ZR1. The only potential drawback is the cost. I know sine I found a chip on the left front rotor, on the edge. So I had it replaced. 3K$ =:0 Another potential drawback, which I don't like to think about, is the fact you can no longer get some of the carbon fiber pieces since the company that GM contracted to produce them is no longer in business. I discovered that when I asked the parts guy at the dealership I take it to when I need new tires mounted, in case I ever need those parts. Btw, the Cup2 tires are nearly magical, but $ and are not available in the winter months. Michelin only produces them in the spring and summer months, which makes sense since they're really summer only tires and are primarily intended for track use. That said, they're nearly magical on the street since the grip is beyond words. That and the very firm, but remarkably precise steering, makes it feels more like a plane than a car. I'm not kidding. So much so I occasionally have to remind myself which one I'm in. ;)

    Terrific job as usual Henry! Loving the American reviews. Can't wait to see your C8 review as it's a world beater in every way for a bargain price. How about an "05 or '06 Ford GT for a blast up that road too? A classic beauty.

    What a great review,understated and no melodramatics,being a Brit Corvette owner in Britain it's good to hear another Brit appreciating the Corvette as a genuine sports car.On the auto transmission,I'm old school as well and prefer a manual transmission but I heard a journalist that went on a track day with a late model Porsche "911" with an autobox and a proffesional Porsche racing car driver beside him and as he was shifting gear with the paddles the racing driver told him to leave the paddles alone,he said "if I can get a faster lap by leaving it in full auto I'm sure you can",sure enough the journalists lap times were seconds faster!,goes to prove how good modern autos are.✌👍

    Another excellent review Henry. I've been reading your columns in EVO magazine since 2008. As a C5 Z06 owner, torque is a beautiful thing. I'm starting to lust after the last of the front engine monsters, the C7 ZR1. Not a fan of the C8. You should do a review of all the Corvette generations.

    Exactly. I thought I was the only person who hated the C8. I just don't like the looks. It looks too much like a NSX which I actually prefer over the C8, and the interior isn't good quality. Oh, and that $60,000 Price tag? Thats the base model. And you don't get heated seats, a infotainment system, etc. I just love the old C7 ZR1. I may be a Shelby fan, but it's just... badass.

    Though the C6 ZR1 may not have quite as much hp and it can be a bit of handful on the track, I'd still take it any day over the C7 version. The very bulky, over done looks of the C7 ZR1 is what really kills it for me. I wouldn't call the C6 ZR1 beautiful, more like very handsome, with a case of undercover meanness. Nothing even comes close, bang for the buck wise and the already awesome LS9, takes to modifications very well... As long as things like the intercooler bricks aren't skimped on.
