You can always rely on Ford to give you a great all round car. They're stylish, economical, reliable, fast and all at an acceptable price. Ford have cracked it with the looms as well due to the Aston Martin style front. Well done Ford 👏👏

Ford is a US manufacturer with a certain reputation. Europeans buy mostly marketing names called Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo and Transit. The reputation is based on two major factors; depreciation and reliability the first being more commanding. All in all, nice everyday vehicles, especially diesel models.

As a North American 2014 Fusion owner, I'm getting extremely angered here! The last review I watched was a Mondeo station wagon with a stick shift and a diesel engine. This review is a hatch back with glass roof and diesel engine. NONE of these are available in North America! We don't even get that little cargo net in the glovebox to hold the manual! I would kill for a station wagon with a diesel! Also, how cool are those LED DRL switchback sequential turn signals!?!? Again, nothing like that here in North America! We don't even get rear fog lights!

It's hardly one of Ford's finer cars though is it. Step inside it and everything, bar the Ford badge on the steering wheel, is Fiat - switches, dials, stereo, the lot. I have nothing against the Fiat 500, but it's disappointing that Ford, effectively, outsourced their 2nd generation Ka. Generally does pretty poor in customer satisfaction surveys too. Relatively speaking, it's not a patch on the first generation Ka. I'd get a Toyota Aygo instead.

I'm a little confused by the 'Passat is more practical' comment around the 5.27 mark. Surely a hatchback would be classed as being more practical than a similarly-sized 3 box saloon? To me, the Mondeo's main problem is its sheer size, it's too wide for town driving and it's dull to look at, no wonder the 3 series easily outsells it. Anyway, nice to see Mat back reviewing, although I do like Ginny's earnest style too.

***** The old Ford Mondeo (a completely different car to the previous generation Ford Fusion in the US) had best in class driving dynamics - it could give Jaguar and BMW a solid run for their money in the fun department. But since this car was co-developed in the USA, the American style suspension has made its way through. By EU standards its quite soft. The old Mondeo to an American would probably feel really harsh.

"Material quality has been improved". That's maybe what Ford want us to believe, but I'm surprised to hear the reviewer saying it. I sat in the new Mondeo and couldn't help but think the interior looked actually cheaper than it used to. The materials covering the dash and the doors may be soft to the touch (which they already were in the previous car), but they are less robust, more brittle than before. In fact, you now get higher-quality plastic in a Focus!

I drove this and the new Passat back-to-back a little while ago, and i enjoyed the Ford a lot more. Driving the VW felt as fun as drowning in wallpaper paste. My biggest annoyance with the Ford is the suspension setup, and lack of a manual gearbox with a powerful engine (you can only get the 2-litre Ecoboosts with a automatic). What the Mondeo needs is a Sport, or a new ST model, and a suspension setup like the previous model had and their lovely 6-speed box. And Autocar said the Mondeo is the new class leader when they compared it against the Passat, 3-series, A4, Insignia and V60.

Sure, they're probably not as well built nor have the same badge value, but these family saloons have really come a long way in terms of design, premium appeal and tech.

Great technology but what for when the most important thing is missing in Ford cars: mechanical reliability. New Ford Fusion Titanium still with warranty, only 10kmiles. . , 1 year having problems with gearbox and front axe. More than 45 days at the authorized repair shop, no spare car offered. No solution at all. Other guys with same problem in forums. A friend with same problems in a new Explorer. Coincidence?? Very dissapointed with Ford.

+Sergio Bedoya If you want reliability then Toyota is the best option in that price range. Or you could stretch to Lexus which will give Mercedes/BMW Luxury but with Toyota reliability.

That was a surprise when Matt pointed out that despite the car's large size that headroom in back isn't so good. Who would have thought?

Is this the car that will replace the Falcon in Australia, or will there be something a little larger. Looks neat though.

It's a nice looking car, it's a well spec' d out car in titanium . I would never entertain the 1.6 diesel , the 2.0 diesel 150 is still not really that quick , nor is the highest powered 180 tdci because it's very heavy it also handles like a soggy pudding !

Mark C I got the 2 litre diesel, bi-turbo, 210 PS, and it's more than fast enough for me. But the 180 PS AWD was nice too when I test drove it.

Raul Barsan 210 bhp should be quick enough, the 150 model is really slow the 180 is modest

Mark C I could compare it in terms of acceleration from 0-60 to the BMW 525D, but that one was more expensive. The mondeo was the bang for the buck for me. But it depends on everyone's liking

Raul Barsan On paper that don't seem bad but I've not seen a diesel Mondeo actually hit it's quoted performance figures . BMW .5 a second quicker and cover 1/4 miles faster still with 215bhp 525d which is still a 2.0d The one to have is the 530d

Why do mainstream car makers make their cars less fun to drive with each generation? I know if I read reviews across the last three generations of Mazda6 and Mazda3, as well as Ford Focus and Mondeo, with each review there is inevitably a comment about the car not being as fun as the previous one. As far as I know the ride quality of the above mentioned was never crashy or harsh, so no need to soften the suspension at the expense of handling. It really puzzles me.
