New $2 Skywolfeye Cree LED Torch - review, teardown, mod

Ғылым және технология

This is a review, teardown and modification of the new powerful Skywolfeye zoomable 3 mode "6000 lm" Cree LED Flashlight from Ebay for just $ 1.99 including shipping. It runs on a standard 18650 Li-Ion cell (not included). It only worked with a button top battery, but after my mod, it works with a flat top too. The listing claims an "XM-L XPE" LED and 6000 lumens, but the actual light output won't be more than 400 lumens. This is still very good for a $2 1x18650 flashlight (or actually the best you can get for such price and in such a small size).

    2 things: 1. If you place a very small magnet on the flat-top, it will create the necessary contact (not sure about resistance issue but I've done it) 2. If you remove the capacitor from the chip, I believe it will only allow bright mode as it will always think it is being turned on for the first time. Love your videos buddy!

    I have the exact same two kinds of torches. Something broke yesterday in the newer model, the led now is constantly very dim. Maybe that the ic has broken down but have to do a teardown and research / repair. I like these models and was a bit disappointed it quit so early after only maybe 10 or 20h of use (not continously of course).

    Thanks for a very good review again! I happen to have both types of led-torches, all work fine but i am afraid the higher power of the new led is a bit too much for long life. Anyway its a very good quality for that low price. I also bought a much more expensive one for around 7 Euros, which claimed to have 5 W. It turned out that there was no contact from the led-heatsink to the metal casing - the thread in the heatsink didnt fit into this of the case - it was just sitting loosely inside! The led's heat burnt itself off the pcb and the little plastic lens melted away! Now and than you can find such shitty construction from the chinese manufacturers - even with more exensive lamps! The skywolf imitation is really one of the best for the price-class!

    I wonder how the chip remembers what power cycling state it's supposed to be in? Would putting a resistor between 1 and 2 or 3 and 2 possibly help it forget? It would be ideal if it could just forget in half a second and you had to switch faster to get into the alt-modes.

  • @DiodeGoneWild

    @DiodeGoneWild

    5 жыл бұрын

    The capacitor allows it to remember the state. If you used a lower value capacitor or if you put a resistor in parallel to it, the memory would be reset faster.

I recently moved to a new place and before I left the old one, I had a high quality 600W PC PSU that broke after 10 (!!!) years of abuse and I thought I d sent it to you. It would have made a very interesting video (I had also bought replacement FETs and caps after I checked it somewhat myself) but I had no way of contacting you so I threw it away as I couldt take it with me... Maybe the next broken (or redundant) hardware could be mailed to you?

    Cree XP-E diodes i think, or copies of them. I know its not a copy made by LatticeBright becourse yours has round small dots and LatticeBright uses square dots. I dont know of any other LED chip copy factory. I bet both is copies, but if i should pick the real one if any of them is real then my pick is the new one, it seems to be the most right size die.
