The 1969 Chevelle was the second year of this generation, but it continued to be America’s “Most Popular Mid-Sized” car. It featured small changes from the 1968 model. The SSTM 396 was a $347.60 option package and the 396 c.i. was rated at 325 horsepower in the basic package.
The Chevelle stayed in the Chevy line up until 1978. But in 1969 it was the height of the Muscle Car wars and the Chevelle was the king of the hill. In fact, you could order a special 396 c.i. with up to 375 horsepower. There were also dealer specials under the “COPO” program, which added to the Chevelle reputation as the best muscle car.
Features
Fully detailed 396 c.i. V-8 engine.
Choice of Ralley or Magnum wheels and separate frame structure.
Tampo Printed Tires
Waterslide decal includes multiple pin stripe color options.
Molded in white, transparent red and clear with chrome plated parts and soft black tires.
125 Parts
The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile which was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1977 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles include coupes, sedans, convertibles and station wagons. Super Sport versions were produced through the 1973 model year, and Lagunas from 1973 through 1976. After a four-year absence, the El Camino was reintroduced as part of the new Chevelle lineup in 1964. The G-body Monte Carlo, introduced in 1970, also used a platform that was based heavily on the Chevelle platform, although it was lengthened ahead of the firewall. The Malibu, the top of the line model through 1972, completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate for the redesigned, downsized 1978 model year.
1969 Chevelles were billed as "America's most popular mid-size car." They showed only minor changes for 1969, led by revised front-end styling. A single chrome bar connected quad headlights (which became a familiar Chevrolet trademark) with a revised front grille, now cast in ABS plastic, and a slotted bumper held the parking lights. Taillight lenses were larger and more vertical, flowing into the quarter panels. Smaller side marker lighting bezels were phased in (shared with the Camaro and using the lens assembly as the previous year). Front vent windows (hardtop and convertibles only) began to fade away now that Astro Ventilation (first introduced on the 1966 Buick Riviera which was used a year earlier on the Camaro and Caprice) was sending outside air into several Chevelle models. The Chevelle lineup slimmed down to Nomad, 300 Deluxe/Greenbrier, Malibu/Concours, and Concours Estate series, and the base 300 series was history. No longer a series of its own, the SS 396 turned into a $347.60 option package for any two-door model. That meant not just a convertible, sport coupe, or pickup, but even the pillared coupe and sport coupe in the lower-rent 300 Deluxe series (except the base 300 Deluxe El Camino pickup). Fewer SS396-optioned 300 Deluxe coupes and sport coupes were built than their Malibu counterparts and they are solid gold for collectors. The Super Sport option included a 325-horsepower 396-cubic-inch V8 beneath a double-domed hood, along with a black-out grille displaying an SS emblem and a black rear panel. More potent editions of the 396 engine also made the options list, developing 350 or 375 horsepower (280 kW). SS396s produced from this point on shared the same VIN prefix with the Malibu sport coupe (136), with the exception of the 300 Deluxe based SS396s using (134), where the original buildsheet and/or Protect-O-Plate (which is an aluminum tag included with the original sales invoice from Chevrolet dealers) can ID a genuine SS (especially for a numbers matching original which is unaltered); however, the VIN number alone cannot ID a genuine SS as in previous years. Around an estimated 323 Chevelle 2-door hardtops were fitted with an L72 427 cu in (7.0 L) rated at 425 bhp (431 PS; 317 kW) at 5,800 rpm and 460 lb⋅ft (624 N⋅m) at 4,000 rpm of torque, where some Chevrolet dealers used the Central Office Production Order (this also included some Camaros and Novas of the same model year) - some COPOs were sold through select Chevrolet dealerships and out of the 323 COPO orders, a confirmed 99 were sold through the Yenko Chevrolet dealership in Canonsburg, PA. During the 1969 model year a police package (RPO B07) was available on the Chevelle 300 Deluxe 4-door sedan where some were optioned with the RPO L35 (396) motor along with a boxed frame (also shared with fleet orders e.g. taxicabs and rental cars); at the time the police option was reintroduced since the 1964/65 model years (at the time midsize squads came with economy powertrain usually in the case of the Chevelle a third generation Chevrolet inline six.

They must be miserable living in their parents basements.
My best friend in HS had a 69 SS El Camino with the 396. It was actually bored out to a 403 for 69. I had a 67 Camaro RS and we'd take his car when we needed a working heater.haha

Brings back memories......back in the day we had a neighbor with a silver CHEVELLE SS....way cool kit/build
MAN!! What a FINE 69!! Love the musclecar builds!! YEAHHHH!!!! 🤘🤘🤘
I'm glad to watch your videos. I can't build during the summer because of the heat and humidity. I have to paint in my garage and the weather destroys my paint jobs. Keep up the good work!
You really knocked this one out of the park!!!,i ordered a couple yesterday even though i told myself not to!!!!
A GORGEOUS build!!.. Impressively detailed Kit and Build!!.. Keep up the great work Bud!!
The the wheels you picked out and that champagne gold for the body color. Fantastic build as always have a great weekend
Very nice build. You do great work. I used to build my models like this when I was 12-15 years old. That was 45 years ago. I always tried to make every detail perfect otherwise I didn't see the point of building them. I used to also add micro-bulbs to light up all the body and dash lights. It would be easier to do that now with the tiny LEDs. I had collected about 60 cars but now only have 2 left. A black '58 Thunderbird and a green '55 Chevy Bel-air with gold/white interior. One day back in '76, I came home from school and discovered that my mom had given all my cars away to her friend's kids without even asking me. She literally just scooped them up and piled them on top of each other in a big cardboard box. You can imagine how I felt. I never built another model. I do still enjoy seeing models built by others.
My friend that I mentioned in my Facebook post had built a 71 Hemi Cuda and a 70 442 that he painted in Testors Champagne Gold Metallic. My 2 favorite kits he built. Love that color.
Lovely work, thanks for posting!!!
Can't wait to build it. Great build Chris
Sharp looking tires and decals!!
Again the detail painting so satisfying. Catch tons of tips from your videos. Thanks man👍
Great video the models you build are always so detailed
LOVE the build. I just ordered this kit. Can’t wait to build it. I have to say you have really steady hands. My compliments
Can't wait to build this one👍
Very nice build! Always enjoy your subtle weatherings, washes, and little details.
As always an excellent build! Thanks for sharing. Keep em coming.
Chris,what a Beautiful built,you keep amazing me,this is absolutely gorgeous 🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
Beautiful car !! Great work man!
I had a 72 Camaro, Placer Gold Metallic with a white interior, vinyl top and pin stripes. Lots of good memories in that car!
This is one of my favorites! Excellent job, the color scheme is perfect! Looking forward to the Chevy truck!
I'm not much of a Chevy guy, but I still enjoy watching your paint montages. I especially love how 95% of your builds are rattle can builds. I don't have a wide variety of nearby hobby outlets, so this channel has really expanded my horizons lol. Chris, if you do happen to see this comment, I apologize if you see multiple posts from me on your Facebook page. I had just hit send with my project pics when I got your auto reply in Messenger. I then tried to post to the page and thought my device was having technical difficulties lol. It is apparently obsolete and doesn't cooperate lol.

This is a lot better than the kit I built in my teens of the one my dad had when I was a kid. Might have to build a new kit. His was a malibu with a hopped up 427 in front of a powerglide. Red 2 door with a black vinyl interior and roof. Grew up with his street racing the thing and it would drag the rear bumper on launch if you didn't know what you were doing.
My favorite year. Another great job. Love the wheels too.
Awesome as always! Great work!!
Chris as always awesome build keep up the great work
Excellent build Chris! I love your color choices!! Great presentation! !
Love this!! I have an old amt 69 that I've been acquiring aftermarket parts for. Now I may buy this Revell kit to finally build a replica of my Dads 69 SS!!
I can't wait to get my hands on that kit. Wow!
Great decision on the body color. Everyone does black, red, blue, orange but the color you choose is different and looks awesome. Absolutely a terrific job and sometimes I also do silver on the sway bars and it may or may not be factory but the detail looks great. Great job as always brother. Everyone stay safe and healthy and remember to smile and have fun.

Nice build. Looks cool in that color. Thanks for sharing Chris
Nice job on the small fine details too!!
Nice build review. I like how you are extending the “rock video” section to include the detail painting (brush painting). Keep up the excellent work.
Thx once again for the 30 minutes of model zen! I work nights on a hotel, during the slow times, and there are many, I just love to veg out, watch you build, get some helpful hints and techniques, and just unwind from the pressures of the world. I LOVE the body color on this one- you don't see a lot of nice soft gold cars. You definately did this one justice! Revell never ceases to impress, and neither do you!! :)

Nice work for sure. Some of the photos at the end looks like the real thing
Chris, I very rarely build a kit right out of the box. I am usually building a "kit bash" of a car with parts from different kits. But when I am building one of your video's is always playing. The music is very calming, soothing but even more so is your methods are an inspiration and your words of wisdom "build for you" etc give me confidence! Thank you for being the best in your class!

Just love that colour, looks outstanding
great job ,looks good in that color. building mine right now
HI, that was a nice treat. Always enjoy to see a nice new build. You never know what will be the next one. Nothing like the smell of a brand new kit when you first open up the box. I love that smell. What a nice build, great job. I really like the color combination you picked out. The interior looks great. I never used black primer to paint white. I think I will try it to see how it comes out on an interior. Thank you so much. I remember these cars when they were brand new. I had a 1969 340 Dodge Dart and I raced these SS 396 Chevelles. On the street and on the 1/4 mile drag strips. I took the engine out of my car and did it up big time. I turned low to mid 10's in the Quarter mile at 135 to 140 miles an hour at the end. I usually won a lot of the races. The weelies were a bit freekie. Scrapped the back bumper once. I was in C modified class. I got the power from the ballanced and blue printed work, the over bored cylinders, big race cam, 1080 cfm Holly carb, and the super high compression pistons. It had a 390 rear that helped a lot. Kept pulling more and more even at 7800 RPM. I could have gone up to 9000 RPM but never did. Looking for the next one, see you soon.
Awesome car and awesome build 👍 can't wait to see the next build great job brother

Wow, I saw the ad for your video multiple times before I dropped in and watched. I skipped it often 'cause I said, "aww, there's lots of vids about '69 Chevelles on KZread"(had one, medium metallic blue, SS 396) THEN, I realized the pic was of a model!!! Wow, I REALLY thought it was a pix of REAL car. WELL DONE!!

I'm REALLY intrigued by yer use of Rustoleum paints. Never seen that. I didn't think you could get that layer thin enough, figuring it would mask detail on the plastic piece.
This is one of my favorite models. The details are amazingly accurate, and I agree, the Chevy SS wheels do look best.
Really nice looking model, you make it look easy!

Great job! Nice to see a factory fresh car from you and the Champagne Gold is actually a nice shade for the Chevelle, and not one i'd have thought of. You've also inspired me to buy a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon I saw you review a while back, and give it my first attempt at weathering.
