    I had a really sick piggy that was on antibiotics and had bad diarrhea. I watched Scotty’s video on using the charcoal and after about two days the diarrhea transform back into softer poops and then we had the next day normal poop so the charcoal works and thank goodness I had the video to watch and refer to exactly how to mix it, and how much to give. I refer to his videos a lot for help with different situation, so definitely the charcoal works.

    this is fantastic to hear and know. I always share that video with anyone who says their piggy has diarrhea, but I also tell them they should consult a vet to get a proper diagnosis as to what may be causing the situation. I'm not a vet so I can't say only do this method blah blah blah, and if something happened to their piggy I'd feel responsible, so i share information and hopefully they do both steps ya know what i mean.

    When I've taken piggies to the vets in the past they never mentioned a probiotic! Recently my son's dog was very poorly and he was given probiotic in a big syringe. But, they didn't mention about arranging it around the antibiotic! This is important information. Thanks for this 🙏🙂

    My vet was actually the one to tell us about probiotics for my piggie back in 2014. All our piggies have gotten Probios every day since! The equine formula is identical to the dog one and much cheaper on chewy so that helps with the cost. 👍

    My guinea pigs are also on antibiotics, and the Vet never mentioned probiotics. I watched your videos before, so I always gave them a pea size of Bene-bac an hour after the antibiotic, the poop is good, they have a high appetite, they are popcorned and happy. Then, after the course of antibiotics, I returned to the Vet, they were amazed that my piggies were gaining weight, and their health was so good, as I mentioned that I also use probiotics along with antibiotics, and they said that I did a great job on that because most of the time people contact the Vet and asked what to do because their piggies have stomach upset, lost appetite, squishy poop, etc... Thank you for your information

    The banana flavored antibiotic we got prescribed for King's infected toenail does not give him diarrhea luckily. We were told by our vet this was the only one they can prescribe that does not need a probiotic. I was told any of the others will need a probiotic just not this one. (I'm not sure the name of it).

    That's fine to give them veggies as long as they're still eating 80% hay and high quality Timothy based pellets. You can give them veggies twice a day or a little bits whenever you want. The guinea pigs at the rescue get veggies once a day.

    Thanks Scottie for the info! During work training we learned that guinea pigs are prone to GI Statis and it can be deadly. Not sure if antibiotics can cause that. Our vet generally prescribes enroflaxcin, doxycycline, or sulfatrim sulfate. im guessing those arent as harmful to the tummy since they've never sent bene-bac along which i have seen before as well.

Also i have a single female i rescued and im thinking of getting her a partner can you give me some advice on how to go about it. Are they gonna fight and is it okay if my guinea pig is 4 years older?

    Hey Scottie, sorry to take up space in the comment for my question. One of my female Guinea pig from a pair recently got injured. Now the other one is becoming aggressive toward the one injured, a lot of purring, chasing and humping. The one being aggressive was subordinate because she was younger. Now she is growing up she is acting more and more dominant. I am worried she is stressing her cage mate out, even though I have not seen injury yet. Should I be worried or is this normal and will pass?

  • @ScottysAnimals

    It's definitely something to keep an eye on. Guinea pigs can be jerks like that. If there's no actual biting hopefully when your guinea pig heals things will return to normal. Have you confirmed there are no broken bones?

    @@ScottysAnimals yes! The piggies are back to normal now! Thank you so much Scottie. The Guinea pig who was injured is now all healthy and became the dominant one again. How can I get my piggie to drink more water. I have two piggies and two water bottles. I tried adding a bowl of water but she wasn’t interested. I give them fresh veggies twice a day. Any suggestions?

  • @ScottysAnimals

    @ScottysAnimals

    Жыл бұрын

    It's because you're giving your guinea pigs fresh veggies twice a day that they are not thirsty. Remember 80% of a guinea pig's diet is supposed to be hey so you've got to make sure that they are eating hay and not so spoiled by veggies that they don't want to eat anything else. Giving veggies multiple times a day is not a problem but if you give them too much they will fill up and not want to eat hay or their pellets and that isn't the best thing. Also what type of greens and veggies you give is really important. Make sure that you are giving a variety and they are from an approved food list. I would suggest a variety of different veggies and not too much wet veggies. You can mix it up with clean untreated grass as well as wheatgrass and more fibrous vegetables like cilantro or parsley. Keep an eye out on the quality of poops and also try to prioritize hey. Don't let your guinea pigs full you into giving them a poor diet

    @@ScottysAnimals Thanks for responding. If I want to cut back on their veggies (red leaf lettuce, escarole, celery, fennel, cucumbers, carrots occasionally parsley, cilantro and a few less frequently) how do I do that without them getting upset? They won’t eat any color pepper and not really interested in romaine lettuce. They have hay 24/7 that I refresh 2-3 times a day and they eat their pellets. How do I cut back on veggies?
