When they recognise the person, they "snap out " of it. That's why having them as "pets" is dangerous. They might be genuinely attached to you, but for a few seconds, their instincts might surface.. and a few seconds are more than enough for a fatal attack to happen.. It looks to me like their stalking is mostly playful. They know he's not food, but the hunting instinct is triggered when he turns his back, so they want to go for him. I suspect that if they really tried to catch him, they would be a lot more forceful (and also try to be sneakier). Still, it's a powerful display and a good reminder that big cats don't make good pets.

Well, considering the fact that actual Velociraptors were only the size of a large turkey, I'd say they wouldn't really be much of a threat to humans, unless you were swarmed by a whole pack of them. The Velociraptors in the Jurassic Park movies weren't scientifically accurate. The ones in the movies were closer in size to that of a Utahraptor or Deinonychus than a Velociraptor.

I think it seemed to show embarrassment was that she wanted to eat him but since she was busted she acts nervous because he feeds her so her food is at steak.

This is exactly what's done by people living in forested regions of India and Bangladesh..

What people don't understand is it's pure instinct. Even if a cat sees you as a friend, it will be compelled to sneak up on you if your back is turned. They do this in both hunting and play. The problem is that big cats are powerful enough to seriously hurt you just from playing. Even domestic cats can hurt you if they are not taught to play with sheathed claws and not bite. We have thinner, more fragile skin, and they don't instantly understand that we can be hurt easily by them through play.

This wasn’t a hunting instinct. This was them playing. Their mouths would’ve shown to be more aggressive and open. This was definitely a more playful attack. Hence to why they acted fine when he turned around. They’d still be trying to get him if it was an attack aggressively.

Tell that to the Norwegian farmers who try to eradicate the dwindling wolf population in Norway because they kill too many sheep. May I add, those sheep are the ones literally staring at their predators running towards them. A few of them even send death threats to other farmers with guard dogs for livestock.

This is a common hunting technique used by big cats actually. Many natives of Asia and Africa where many of these species are found, often wear masks with faces on them behind their heads to give the illusion of their backs NOT being turned. The reason big cats wait for your back to be turned is because they have a clearer shot to your neck to kill you quickly. Not only can they crush the windpipe but they also severe the brain cord.

Dogs act the same, especially stray dogs - they would attack you from the back, if they are about to attack. So, if you see dog moving suspicious - turn face to them, they will stop.

Nah it's their instincts kicking in but it's unlikely they'd actually act on it with their caretakers. If it were a stranger, things could easily get more violent yeah, and even if you've known them for their whole life, it's still a bad idea to turn your back, you never know. But still, wouldn't be 'without a second thought'

That's cause apart from lions , cats r not pack animals.. they r predators. Even if you raise them, you cant ever fully trust them.. that's why female big cats dont even let the males near the Cubs cause they might eat them. Not to mention wild cats aren't meant to be caged.. all those natural hunting instincts and energy build up long enough and it turns into agression.

They don't think about attacking, they do it because that's what they are programmed to do. In this case they'll most probably stop after killing or maiming the man because once the act is done, they're back in control.

TOME Julien even my cats at home trying to do that to me sometimes. It gets playful cause we're stronger than cats. But if tigers do it, we have no chance. Even domestic cats are not tamed completely

My mother, who worked with big cats when I was younger, drilled this into me as a kid every day. Never turn your back on them, never take your eyes off them, and never run from them. Unfortunately, people seem to think that just because they're in zoos, or "domesticated" that means they're harmless.
