NEVER TOO SMALL: Designer Couple’s Simple Luxe Apartment, Amsterdam 33sqm/355sqft

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Visit www.nts-store.com/products/es... to get your hands on our Essential guide to your living room.
Designers Carla and Bruno, the talented couple behind Hum Gallery & Studio, completely transformed their standard T-shaped apartment with a unique blend of hotel aesthetics and simplicity, using a mix of second hand furniture and natural materials. Key to the overall design was taking advantage of the apartment’s natural light and views overlooking the courtyard. The biggest change to the floorplan was opening the bathroom up into the bedroom, incorporating a large bathtub, vanity and shower into the space. They also removed the original L-shaped corner kitchen and extended it along the full length of the wall, where it forms part of the open plan living and dining space. The area is centred around a custom made dining table and pendant light, with a unique mirror based vintage sofa tucked into a small cosy nook. With the upgrade of this 1901 apartment, Carla and Bruno have created the perfect canvas to feature all of the objects that they have collected over time.

Stunning choice of colours, materials and items. The handles and travertine countertop in the kitchen are to die for. I would personally never put a tub/shower in the bedroom, but if it works for them that's great. Also, NTS please show us more balconies. @@namebrandmason Those have to be some very long and very hot showers/baths to make that a concern. There are 2 windows for a good cross-breeze ventilation. @Jay Carver Yes, bath rugs would get wet, but there won't be "water everywhere". All that said, I would have to be really desperate for housing before I would live in a place that looks like an 1800's NYC tenement. I'm surprised they don't have a large board on top of the tub to use as counter space when not in use.

What a lovely warm apartment! You get the feeling that the things they have are carefully and lovingly selected, and that's why they repeatedly talk about how they were careful to think about how they would be displayed. The way they transformed this apartment is amazing! I really love how the simple built-in changes they made had such an impact. The way they extended the kitchen counter transformed the whole apartment. I also feel like the way the apartment is decorated and furnished really works together and is very tasteful, interesting, and timeless. I've never seen a bathroom set up like that in conjunction with the bedroom before - it is aesthetically pleasing, and it would be nice to be able to have a bath and be able to have a view too in that pretty room. However, I'm kind of messy, especially when I bathe, and I'm not sure if that set up would work for me because I'm so clumsy and I need more of a mistake-proof area to bathe in so I don't accidentally damage something or manage to get hurt, especially when I'm completely wet and dealing with soaps and shampoos and water and... the other stuff you have in the bathroom. But I've always wanted a larger bathroom, and it would be nice to have a similar set up with the pretty windows and curtains and a patio, except with waterproof furniture and walls and everything, and maybe safe, comfortable, practical and yet easy-to-clean details. I think the way they used all the closet space was very clever, and I especially like the stone cabinet handles, especially with all the other stone items in the apartment. I think the art in the apartment really went together extremely well. The style, the theme, the colors, even the way the different pieces of art were similar as if many of them had actually been created by the same artist - really made a statement.

For me, though I liked the look of the bathroom, felt very luxurious, I wouldn't be keen on having a tub and sink in the bedroom. I don't find it practical if one person is sleeping and the other needs to get ready to go somewhere. And also, with neighbors that close it would force you to constantly having to close your blinds/curtains anytime you want to shower or take a bath. Creating a water closet was a smart choice, and I loved the bold wall paper.

@@alexdcpe well, with media warning of food shortages non-stop, it makes sense to have back-up.

I love the sunshine in this apartment, Also the division between living cooking eating and sleeping. The open plan area makes the apartment look quite spacious.

Aesthetically this is so beautiful but I can't help but think about the logistics of one of them getting up early to shower or shave while the other is still asleep...either get ready in the dark or wake up your partner!

This is definitely one of the most beautiful apartments you have ever featured on your channel! It's brilliantly designed, the overall execution fits the intention, and the way how particularly the kitchen is designed is simply stunning. The objects on display are carefully chosen and exceptionally well arranged, and because the kitchen is visually part of the living room, it makes all the difference. I'm not totally against a bathroom in the bedroom, especially if only one person is/would be using the place; still, I would probably opt to install some type of room divider for a little more privacy that doesn't conflict with the idea of maximum light and space. Otherwise, it's indeed well done = function goes hand in hand with aesthetics, which is always a very pleasant result.

Love this parquet flooring. Would have liked to have seen more of the balcony. I personally would have put the kitchen in the space where the sofa is, with units above, so that I had a larger clear space for 'living'. I would have also been more space-efficient by not separating the WC (plus I personally dislike WCs separate from bathrooms and would never have a bath in a bedroom, but that's personal choice).

Every element is perfect in this space. The large windows and natural light make if feel larger than it is and extend the space beyond it's walls. It's beautiful. The bath positioning is genius !

I love the "floating" sink but not sure how practical it is to have a bathtub in the bedroom.
