I love acrylic paint too for those reasons your favorite part is the background? I like your painting style and accent, very interesting tips. I’ve found a lot of beginners start to freak out that they can remake the same color, but the variation actually what makes the painting more interesting, like you said.

This channel has taught me a lot: but most of all, is that it's okay that we all have different taste. I am one of those people that doesn't like the background color splashed on/covering up the subject of the painting. I've seen lots of professional oil paintings that I don't consider to be boring that keep the background and subject seperate, and that's what I prefer. So my initial reaction was, "why does he work so hard on facial details or feathers or whatnot, only to cover it up?" But the more I watched, the more I realized he really loves this style of painting. It truly excites him as an artist and makes him happy, and there's clearly lots of other people that like this style too and want to purchase these pieces. So thank you for teaching me to respect and appreciate other styles 🙂

I mean art is just so personalized. Why should you make it like a competition. Artists don’t have to win everyone’s heart. It just has to win their own hearts. and if lucky you will have some others loving yours, and that’s already being successful.

Yeah, i thought the same about the "subject covering". He just like what he does and thats the point, thats all. The style sometimes is the personality. You connect with that thing, that level or not. Some are fast painters, some are perfectionists, like less saturated colors, others more color, some are lazy (about some parts of the picture), some like to make a masterpiece, other like "the boring stuff" (as still life, not boring to me), other like to paint the old masters, etc. I bet Alpay gots his reasons about how he paint... The enjoyment is the only thing that matters at the end (money too, but talking about the deep side of the artist). Best regards to all!!!
8:28 "you have the chance to make every square inch of your painting a piece of abstract art in and of itself..." That is really a very great point. Thanks.
Are we just gonna let it slide that this guy with his amazing skill, great art advise and soothing voice, is slowly becoming the new Bob Ross of youtube
I'm in the middle of painting a raven. Mine is a mess, yours is so good, great video, inspiring me to go finish that painting
Instantly want to paint, anytime I see your vids 🙌🏼
Awesome topic! 💙 That's the reason why going to museums is fun. Works of art you've seen in digital form hundreds of times show completely new facets when seen up close. Also it makes you feel connected to the artist observing their work so intimately. 💙 Thanks, Alpay!
You are so "Gifted" Beautiful painting! You make this world a better place to see art in another perspective. Many happy " Art Souls" . I'm one of them. Wonderful teacher and amazing artist 🎉
You give great tips to paint with oils. I aply them to my acrylic paintings. I decided to paint only with acrylics, cus when I finally decided to use paint to my drawings I couldn't give the efects with oils, that I reached with charcoals or pencils. The tips you give here I aplyed them to acrylics and my paintings are more realistic like when I was using pencils or pastels. This renforce me never go back to oils. !!! Thanks.

I wish I could paint like this - I'm prone to overworking! Can I ask what rollers you use and where do you get them from? I love those backgrounds.

Hey. It’s called a “brayer.” They come made of wood & rubber mostly but for oil painting (& a necessary tool in cold wax oil painting) the rubber version is desired. The wood is used often for working with clay. If used for paint it leaves unwanted, hard, outside lines. They come in a variety of sizes, from about 1 inch to 12. Having a few varied sizes is helpful. You can find them on Amazon (variety packs & single units), Michaels (if in the US) or any arts supply store. Have fun painting! ✨ Side Note: To clean them, I find it most helpful to run them over scrap paper until there is no paint coming off, then I put a dot of linseed oil, rub it over the roller, wipe it off onto a paper towel and if it still has paint on it I use Dawn dish soap applied first followed by water which seems to do the trick. *I’m a mixed media artist. I keep the paper coated in paint & incorporate them into some of my work.
So satisfying
amaaaaazing!!!
So true , I mostly mix on the canvas 2 🔥🔥🔥
Hello! I have a question, did you usually paint in layers (wet in dry) Or in alla prima (wet n wet) Thank you!!
You've changed the way I approach painting
Oh! I try so hard not to over mix my colors! I have this book that shows how to mix your colors which helps alot!
Thank you Alpey, that was good to look at. I tend to mix too good ;-)
OMG this is exactly what I needed! Thanks Alpay, you're the BEST! I've learnt so much about portrait painting and oil painting from you that it inspired me to create my own youtube channel, or rather revamp my old channel. I started my channel in 2018 to record my art progress as I learnt. I even created a 2020 art challenge bucket list with 20 prompts to help me improve my art skills. I've definitely seen an improvement since! Thank to your videos💙🥺 my next video gonna be published on Monday, if there are any other beginner artists who would like to join me on this art endeavour. Have an awesome day ahead

Great video. When you use acrylic under painting, do you still gesso the surface first?
I've a habit of mixing too much. Been working on that and my results are getting better
Interessant!
Superb...100%
Is the grey paint you use for the background acrylic or did you continue to use oil?
Noob here! Just wondering: the first layer of green being an acrylic wash, is this because you paint allaprima (i just learned this) and you basically paint the painting in one go? Also: could you do this with oilpaint thinned out with a painthinner instead? Like a bit of green oilpaint with a lot of gamsol for example? Or does that take too long to dry?
Painted a bird of ill omen at the beginning of 2020. Prophetic.
Try using hair spray to prevent the pencil drawing from smearing when you put the wash over it
I don’t understand the raven’s piece of background colour on its back.
Do you use usually reference photos or anything like that?
The green gives the raven an ethereal aura!
Love the crow and commentary
Adore ur videos
Love your work. Why the roller
Wish I saw this before I sealed up my last painting 🙃
Hi I really like your art and you make really perfect videos and I was thinking can you show us some color blend and how to use color I rlly hope you do it on a paper like some small tips and tricks pls couse I lack of it a lot and I can't color my sketchs pls 😍😍😭😭😭🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Do you paint with a reference photograph on hand or just wing it with the sketch and memory?

are you on skillshare?
What is that roller you use? I have seen that used by others. Is it a small paint roller that you would use for a wall?

My anxiety was spiking when you were globbing on that gray background!
Woah, your channel blew up
What I think is you are out of ordinary perspective of watching paintings.
6:27 you added more green on top of the grey but at 7:54 you explain adding less grey, more green will show.
You're so cool.~^^
Ala prima cool
He got a sponsor! :D
Im so tired of working with acrylics, it dries to fast to blend but feel like painting with oil is tp much work, paint thinner etc
Why did you paint the whole page in green?
👍
So just curious. Why do oil painters paint the back ground after the main subject?

ORCHESTRATING A VIEWING EXPERIENCE
As a professional (and traditional) artist, I'm afraid I must give this one a thumbs down. One can't "over mix" oils. Speaking to this video, if it was titled: 'don't make mud', I'd be giving it a thumbs up. If this demo used a more complex painting example, the novice would better understand how oils should actually be used. Sometimes colors are mixed quite thoroughly, while at other times hardly at all. I depends upon the desired effect. As a for-instance here, I never use straight black, or, for that matter, straight white either. My darkest "blacks" contain no black at all, and the effect is much more vibrant and exciting. The other issue here, is that the background is flat and lifeless. Oh yes, I see dabs of color introduced, but they are soon lost into the gray mass. Seeing this as a portrait, even a slight variation in background color and value will immediately strike a sense of space around the subject. For all of you new to painting, use caution not to rely too much on shortcuts....
I don't understand. The title says OIL PAINT but this raven is painted in ACRYLICS. What did I miss?
@jeffreybarton1297

He only painted the initial yellow first layer in Acrylic, as it dries very quickly, and he can then paint the crow in Oils on top of that.
Idk how or why but you sound like a nice Snape to me
He likes "happy accidents".

@@LTReid Exactly, but if you drawing isn't solid and fails at any point in the painting, you have a badly drawn painting. Again, the most important part of any painting is the drawing. You missed my point obviously.
Research shows most viewers view a painting for 7 seconds
You are painting in acrylics and it’s title talks about oils?
Man, 1/3 of the video is pure advertisement. I hope skillshare gives you good money for that.
