Never Have I Ever #1: One Location, Three Cameras!

Ойын-сауық

As useful and cozy as routines can be, it is very useful to break them every once in a while. For example: I rarely take more than one camera with me. Heck, I usually bring only one lens, too. But this time round, I'm pushing myself right out of the comfort zone and shooting the beautiful scenery of Westduinpark (near the Hague, Netherlands) on three very different cameras. It is a fun little challenge that made me see, think and compose the same scenes very differently.

This is the first episode of what I hope will become a regular subseries on my channel: Never Have I Ever! Each episode will feature me doing something I have never done before - be it a technique, genre, location, different way of developing and/or printing film, etc. If there is a technique or genre you feel passionate or curious about and would like to see me try, leave a comment below and I just might go for it!

I'm a wheelchair photographer. That does not mean that I'm taking pictures of wheelchairs, it means that I'm mostly sitting in a wheelchair when I'm taking pictures. 😉The advantage of being a wheelchair photographer is, that I have a vehicle with me which I can load with cameras. So when I'm out for an afternoon of shutter therapy, I have with me: -> in the left hand bag two 100 years old Kodak 3-A cameras which I converted to take panorama pictures in 6x14 cm, one loaded with b&w and one with color film. I'm just planning to convert an old Polaroid 110A Land Camera to Graflex backs and fit a 6x17cm back on it. I think I can add this one to the Kodaks rather than have to remove one of them -> in the right hand bag a Fuji GS645 professional loaded with color film for high quality color pictures -> in the same bag a Russian Moskva 5 loaded with b&w film for the occasion I want to use 6x9 format (this is the least used camera) -> in the large bag behind the seat a 5x7 large format camera with half a dozen film holders loaded with different films, a Russian Zenith 80 camera with two magazines, one loaded with b&w and the other with color film, and a tripod -> with a neck strap around my neck a TLR (mostly a Rolleiflex, but I have a few others too) loaded with b&w film as my main camera for street photography (this is the most used camera) -> in my trouser bag an Olympus Tough TG-6 when I want to document something I plan to mount a 360° cam to my wheelchair and film my photography sessions to be published on KZread. When I'm out for such a session, I intend to use each camera at least once (except the digital one), and I mostly succeed with this plan. Generally, I take a picture from a given motif usually only once, though.

Wow, your kit definitely puts my measly 3 cameras to shame!! I think a video of such a session would be a great watch, go for it 👍

I’m going over to Liverpool and taking 3 cameras- Zeiss Ikon Nettar with 120 film 400 asa ( Ilford), a cheap panoramic plastic fantastic and a Diana with a Instax back. All of these I haven’t used before, should be fun.

Three cameras plus all that extra gear for video! Well done sir! No wonder there were some mis-exposure! Personally Foma 400 at 200 in FX-39ii is magic!

Cheers Alex! The more I'm using Fomapan 400, the more impressed I am - and FX-39 is definitely the way to go for pulling it.

Brain gymnastics most certainly, Kiev rangefinder is so under appreciated. Love all the format. Why the Moersch developer by the way ? I'm quite partial to Spur N and FP4 myself.

Thanks for watching! I like Moersch products in general (especially all the darkroom printing stuff like toners, developers and so on) and Tanol Speed just happened to be the developer I was using at the time that I already used with these films. What is Spur N? Are you perhaps referring to Spur Acurol-N? If so, would love to hear your impressions - I am considering trying this developer at some point.

Nice experiment but I got stressed just watching you! I used to shoot like this until a moment of epiphany. The pictures of the barbed wire fences are cool.

Thanks for watching! Was it my delivery or simply imagining the situation that got you stressed? :D

@@10rollsoffilm11 heh, I should have been clearer! The stress was entirely from the idea of carrying three camera with different formats.

@@BarnabyNutt Ah, got it! Yeah, that was stressful, especially at first and especially when there were people around (they must have had some questions as to why someone would shoot from the same spot with three weird old cameras and then also film some video from that same spot with a digital!). Btw remarks on delivery are also welcome - I'm figuring this whole KZread thing as I go, still lots to learn ;)

A little bit late...but nevertheless you asked for comments and what pics we like: so because this is a very personal opinion: I like most the first two pics (12:57 and 13:04 and...my favourite 20:07). You asked for ideas for "never have I ever...": this depends, what you don't like to do...or maybe hate or don't do. So for this I think you don't like or do colour photos...go for it ;-)

Oof, going straight for the weak point with that 'never have i ever' suggestion! 😅 You are right though, colour photography is less of a comfort zone for me, so it is a viable candidate for a NHIE topic.
