Well before cell cameras, my mechanics instructor had that tip in '75. For heavy rear axels or drum brakes do one side at a time. Good tip!

How do you do two sides at once? 😂
doing one side at a time is smart but only if the last guy did it right always double check
Need more people in the industry like you, simply put and explain thoroughly
A picture is worth a thousand frustrations and it saves time too! Great reminder. I've done it in the past... Got in a hurry and dissasembled everything, to speed up the job, only to forget a certain technique on reassembly!
Good advice and perfect explanation and you only mentioned necessary info and no technical mambo jahambo stuff that just confuses non mechanic people . Good video bro. 👍🏻
Good advice. Thanks
Ft Carson, Co, 1986. Did a “brake job” on my ‘79 Dodge van. Upon driving it, and only a few feet, mind you, I heard “crunch crunch crunch” from the rear wheel. So I got to do it again. So, um, yeah, lesson learned. One at a time.
With drum brakes I will leave one side assembled so I have a reference if I need it. My 97 Dakota is a real pain in the ass.
i take pictures every chance i get lol

Hi!
Good job J T you're through and right down to the point thank you!
Memories, like the corner of my mind, distant water colored memories, of the way we were. 😂😂😂😂
Take a picture or take the other wheel and drum off as a reference. Great video.
Im about to install my own rear drum brake. Thanks bro😊
Oh come on, what’s this rookie hour? Take both sides apart. Lay everything out how it came off. What’s with the rusty wheel cylinders? And re using the hold down pins and clips? That should all be new
Your a chrysler guy right, maybe you can tell me the truth behind the 5.7ltr hemi tick. My 1500 has just hit 60k and does not show any signs of the cam and lifter failure. But why does it happen? Will it happen to every well kept hemi? And can I prevent it from happening but turning off the MDS every time I drive? Can you help explain this issue. Love my hemi and want it to last. Lol appreciate ya
I’ll be glad when I swap my drums for discs on my 96 k1500 lol they’re all replaced anyways but just knowing someday I’ll have to come back and deal with that same bs doesn’t appease me 😂
Good info! If you leave one side as is.. it’s a mirror image of the side that you’re working on. Great video!
took it to pepboys once for brake fluid replacement and they did a free brake check. the guy pushed the pin out so much he couldn't get it back in. free brake check cost me 200 bucks. and they tried to blame me.
ALWAYS TAKE PICTURES, for anybody not mechanically inclined, before you do anything, always take a picture
Good tips. My 78 c10 rs rear comb bolts an studs are spinning. Do i have to open the diff, pull c clip and axle shaft to remove spinning nuts behind break drum comb? Tia
That's how I do drum brakes. One side at a time. Other side used for reference. No picture necessary.
I been doing this for a wile now and I always take pictures with my phone lol cause every car is different lol
Good point! Most DYI guys have zero concept, they just follow videos. I work with 2 of them and always end up finishing what they started 😂
I watched my papa when I was young during rear drums on his ranger but when he was talking it apart he would lay each shoe and hard wear pice and spring on the ground like it was assembled on the truck and I asked why he did that he said that way you don’t have to walk up and look at the other side if you forget how it goes on I said you got a point
Damn what parts store you go to ? The ones near me just give me the parts no hardware lol
What’s the test you have a video?
What if the last guy did the brakes wrong?
My memory says that's a dodge Dakota
Hi, do you know if this is what a ford 500 '06 looks like?
Yup, always take pics, and always do one at a time, most drum brakes are a massive bich!!!! I've done way too many of these things.
PROTIP: If it's anything like a Toyota, once you have the brakes cobbled back together you pull on the parking brake to ratchet out the adjusters until it stops clicking. Whether you check tolerances between the OD of the shoes and the ID of the drum is up to you.
LOL! He threw out the little black shoe retainers. Tap them with a hammer, then retention them and they will be easier to get on.
You better not snitch on me!
What the hell is so difficult about drum brakes. Very easy for a good tech. For a good tech.
The transition from covered wagon wheels was slow.
No links from brake cylinder piston to shoe? What car is this?

My Tahoe doesn’t have those like most Chryslers do I’ve seen . It has tabs made into the brake shoe itself and sits against the piston
Isn't that a little wetness around the cylinder?
What car is that

One side at a time ⌚!!!
The title of this video was “never do this”….never do ?
It's a old brake drum set up
Oh man. I did my first set of drum brakes ever maybe almost a month ago. Thankfully I did take pictures but unfortunately I didn’t take a lot of them and I ended up getting the pads backwards at the end. The longer pad had to be in the rear and I had it towards the front like an idiot, so I had to take them all apart and get them set up again properly. Drum brakes sucks only because of the stubbornness of the springs and everything falling apart on you.

had to do my passenger back side. was doordashing and it got hung up. had to take it apart just to get it the 7 miles home. lucky the fluid pasted that long because also the wheel cylinder was damaged. leaked all it out but got it done in two hours or three. 2001 prius. cost 100 bucks or less to do it myself
Hey you might wanna replace that leaky wheel cylinder? You got there home boy you know it's another. Pair of eyes she affirmed a different angle. I know you knew that.
Unless the guy before you installed them wrong 😑
Drum brake system cars, I got one of those
Take a picture or do one side at a time. The other side is the same only 'backerds'.
Leading and trailing

Looks like that main spring isn't in the right spot.
Yikes! Keep those greasy fingers off the brake linings.

30 years of working on cars. I hate drums and drum shoe installation the most. Why this shit made it past the 1960's is beyond me.
