SCOTTY may i ask you a silly request. It will be an eye opening moment but could you live stream charging a car up? Like a go pro live stream of how long 30+ minutes REALLY is for an ev.
Costco interstate batteries. Can't beat them here in Phoenix Arizona. 3 year warranty and they crap out in two and Costco gives a new one every two years. Ask me how I know. Eight years and have had four new batteries. So I guess I have to keep the car forever!!
When I worked at a service station in the early 70's, the batteries we sold came in a box. When we sold a battery we had to take the battery out of the box, remove the cell caps, take the plastic lined box of battery acid out of the battery box and use it to fill the cells of the battery, then attach a battery charger and charge the battery for a minimum of 30 minutes, fill the cells back up to the full line, put the caps back on the cells, then install the battery. Every battery we sold was brand new and fresh.

The last time I bought a battery for my motorcycle I had to put the acid in it and charge it .
The battery in my spare car has the stupidest story behind it... I was almost home one day and I saw a battery (Honda civic size, my car) laying on the side of the road. I laughed thinking someone's battery fell out of their car.... I went back and checked it out and it was a brand new AAA battery with the plastic cap on the positive terminal (absolutely brand new) It had a small hole in the case from hitting the pavement so I closed it with RTV sealant and added a few oz of water. It's been 6 years and I still have that battery, but I let it die and freeze last winter when my car was covered in snow.

When I had my Auto repair shop (in El Monte Ca) I sold many Interstate batteries, I very seldom had problems with them. Interstate always replaced them.
I have an interstate battery on my rav4 says 2017 on it, still works great..
Interstate batteries from Costco are completely new.
Hey Scotty, I just replaced my Interstate battery and bought another one, the old one lasted more than 6 1/2 years! Both Interstate batteries came from COSTCO. I'm very satisfied with Interstate batteries and feel I got my money's worth out of the first one. The new battery is dated 9/22, I can only hope to get the same life span out of this second one.

Good to hear. I just bought a battery from Costco. My battery which I had for about 3.5 years kept dying and was from an auto store. They wanted over $200. Went to Costco for $100. Come to find out that most of the batteries are the same considering they're made by johnson Controls. Edit: I forgot to mention I also made my decision after seeing a video of batteries being tested and reviewed.

autobahn just means high-way and all parts of german highways have some places where the signs are marked with a line through the speed limit indicating a no limit zone
I have been buying interstate batteries for almost 30 years. I only buy from a interstate battery distributor never the local shop. Whether its a flooded battery or an agm they last between 8-10 years. Now, vehicles made in the last 10 years, no battery will last that long. I had forgotten that! I have been considering buying some "electrolyte" solution and redoing my own. Blasted things are getting high.
When I worked at a Honda/Subaru/Isuzu dealer in the 1980s we had original equipment Japanese batteries in dry storage. When a customer needed a battery we simply added the required amount of acid put a quick charge on it and ZIPPADIDOODA! it was ready to go! That’s how to store batteries!
I am not a fan of Interstate batteries either. I bought a used truck that had one and it was weak. Even though it was in warranty, they would not replace it because I wasn't the original purchaser.
Word of advice, about the oil consumption. If the vehicle is even 10 years old with fare mileage and consuming oil, first check the spark plugs. Spark plugs might work good enough for not triggering the MIL for misfire, still bad. What happens is when not enough detonation, part of gasoline runs down to oil pan. 1. Your oil now diluted with gas. 2. It stays on the cylinder walls which not allowing oil to stick on wallsand creates the gap between the walls and oil rings, which throws then oil into the burning chamber. I know that this is a fact. Been there and done that. Changing spark plugs fixed the problem. Of course if the spark plugs are ok, then it's a oil rings or/and valve guide seals
I had interstate battery for five years never had any issue.
Turbo charged cars designed to be so from the manufacturer can last just forever. It's when you over tax the engine by changing the pressure that messes things up.
Thank you for the video.
My shop used to handle Interstate batteries and swore by them. Today they don't stock any batteries and I always go factory. But, Exide is by far the worst. When an Exide goes bad, you'll remember when you put it in.
I had a 2011 Toyota Camry , bought in 2013 . How many years later bought a Interstate Mega-Tron battery , no issue up to car being totaled in 2020 .
We've had good service out of Interstate. Running two of them right now. Both have dates that are clearly marked. Local dealer has been reliable with warranty replacement in years past. We can't afford Jay Leno's recommended/used brand (I think he's compensated for the endorsement). We have a Braun factory-converted Dodge (wheelchair) van. The amps/power drain for it are not insignificant.
Just FYI my last Interstate battery lasted me 10 years in my daily driver. Never let me down. I only replaced it when it started to sound weak when cranking my car.
Those batteries lasted if they were kept on trickle chargers Scotty. Douglas batteries to me are the longest lasting....the one in my 61 Vette has lasted 17 yrs so far and it's only ran on the drag strip....dad bought it new and it's never been street driven, hardtop convertible.
WALFART IS THE SAME...ELECTROLITE IS ALREADY IN BATTERY WHEN PURCHASED...HO HUM...BUT WAL FART HAS MORE TURNOVER THAN MOST OTHER STORES...I USED TO WORK IN AN AUTO PARTS STORE...WE FILLED EACH BATTERY WHEN SOLD......BEST WAY...ON TARGET SCOTTY!!!

I just bought an Interstate battery and their warranty dropped from 42 months to 36 months - I guess that says something about quality
I have a 2005 Ford e250 with the 5.4 engine. I'm on my 3rd dormant intake manifold in 20,000. Miles since I bought it 4years ago. The last one went so bad you could put your hand inside it and the seam at the back split. Want an aluminum one but nobody makes one. Only time I ever had a problem with any dormant parts.
6:26 my understanding is that the autobahn does have a lane with no speed limits. No the whole thing. Also, the entire thing is built like an air strip. It is built to by used by aircrafts. (Flat, limited curves, no overhanging wires or stuff, concrete base, etc.)
Scotty, what about Interstate batteries that are fresh dated?
The Interstate batteries I've bought through Costco all have honored the 3 year warranty and there's a sticker on them showing the estimated period end date of charge. Buyer needs to read the sticker first before purchase so it's kind of on them. Will continue to buy as they've lasted up to 5 years.

Scotty, drive battery for my 2013 Prius new from Toyota Dealer discounted is around $2200. Have owned three different Prius. My 2013 has 180,000 miles, change oil every 5000 miles. That generation know to blow head gaskets higher mileage, egr systems need cleaning/replacing, water pump has plastic impeller. 175000 miles is time to start dumping money into it.
Strange Scotty, that's all I run in my vehicles and they all have exceeded the warranty life of them, other early battery failures is what steered me to them (AC-Delco and Optima (Red)), nothing personal against Delco or Optima I'm sure they make good products, I just haven't experienced it. :)

There is a company in Miami that drives allover Florida that replaces Prius batteries with rebuilt ones with a 10 year warranty for less than $500. The rebuilt battery bank usually last about 7 years which means it can constantly get replaced under warranty.
Now you tell me. COSTCO sells Interstate Batteries and it comes with something like a 3 year warranty.
My Interstate battery has been in my Snapper riding lawn mower since February 2020. Now, it is August 13, 2023, 3 1/2 years later. It only has a 6 month warranty. It still holds a full charge with the resting voltage at 12.6 volts. I am more than satisfied with the Interstate battery.
7:20 I am impressed, usually I hear that doorman parts are having major issues.
I had an Interstate battery in my 1995 Sportster for 11 years before it went bad. Guess they do not make them like they used too.
I get Interstate from Costco and get the same month fresh batteries, but they all die right after 3 years and no more warranty. been thru 4 batteries like that on 3 of my cars.
I normally don't disagree with Scotty, but I gotta disagree with this as a few others have. I have an Interstate MegaTron battery in my 08 Scion XB. I honestly don't even remember how long ago I bought it. I put a lot of strain on my battery through the use of my aftermarket system. I've also literally ran my radio for through two whole movies at the drive in (of course with the bass turned down), and I also have my dash cam hard-wired to my car. I've never had any issues with the battery. Maybe the older Interstate batteries sat on shelves for GOD knows how long, but now the batteries have a date on it so you know you are getting the freshest battery.
Thank you
I've seen batteries six months or older at AUTO ZONE, and that date code sticker is the date they were shipped to the store. The actual make date is stamped or etched into the battery case, in code, and different makers use different codes. Gonna need to GOOGLE.
I change the 1 year before the rating. Not worth the hassle, Trickle drain is worse on newer cars too.
I have had great luck with intestate batteries. Never have returned one and all have lasted at least 5 years. I had one in my pickup that lasti 8 years but finally froze when I parked the old truck for winter. ( I jump started the truck and drove her to the store to get a new battery though. 😉
You can TEST a new thermostat....put it in a heated pot of water. You can see if the part OPENS...and CLOSES as it cools. 😉👍
I liked the power frame grid batteries brought 9 years ago from Advanced auto and I got the at a fair price. But lately with the high cost of premium batteries, I but the batteries from Wal Mart , the price is very reasonable, and I get great life from them over 6 years and more.
Ditto on Costco(BEST WARRANTY GOING-so who cares IF their batteries are of mediocre quality?)AND, they do sell AGM batteries (that you can also return for full swap no questions asked).
I gotta disagree with Scotty about his assessment of Interstate batteries. I have not had any problems with them. The last 3 Interstate batteries I have had lasted 5 to 6 years trouble free.
Scotty most of us buy our interstate batteries at Costco. 109$ vs around 200+ anywhere else. You pick a fresh one your self. And they have high turn over. Plus the will replace if last less than 36mo. Hard to go wrong.

I'm surprised you're not fond of interstate batteries. Mine lasted 48 months and died at 5pm July 3rd. I have an "Advance Auto Parts" DIE HARD now.🙄 The label says Die Hard, probably covering an Autoquest battery. Forget about cars, owned 7 boats continuously over 45 years. My ski Boats had 2 batteries, and 3 boats required 4 batteries. My deep cycle secondary batteries lit the navigation lights and ran the 12V refrigerator overnight, while at anchor. No starting battery could withstand the long duration power draw. I only used Interstate in my offshore boats. There are no tow trucks offshore and only the Coast Guard will respond on international waters. I ran the pants off my boats. Interstate lasted 3 seasons, April-November. No other marine battery manufacturers lasted more than 2 seasons.
Had my interstate for 9 years
Todays Batteries are crap. I used to buy the Die Hard batteries and I swear everyone would go bad with about 9 months of warranty. This was enough of an incentive for you to return and get you $9 towards the purchase of a new battery. When selecting a new battery I choose based on the longest replacement warranty.
"sitting for years"..... should have trickle charged it , or better yet, used a rejuvenator device. This could happen to any battery.
Interstate made good batteries 20 years ago, but not sure how well they are made today.
Rebuilt can go bad too, not mentioning the company. I bought a alternator from one of the retail, stores, 1st one didn't have the rotor connected to the pully, 2nd one didn't put out anything, 3rd worked for half a mile. 4th came from the dealer as oem and still works. Interstate got a good reputation but now I think they lean on the warranty. If you actually have your used car for more than 3 more years, they'll take chances on honoring the prorated warranty vs. making expensive batteries, I suppose.
Thank you creating your videos!
I actually have problems with interstate so I switched to a different brand. I had 4 interstate batteries last 3 months and they where fresh and they were bad. I had them crack on me before and i saw one catch on fire . I agree with scotty with interstate batteries
I’ve used Interstate since 1980. I’ve only had one bad battery, 2010 Ford Edge, battery would work great for 6 months and then go dead overnight. Had car checked for any battery draws. Next 6 months would be fine and then dead overnight. After about 3 times of this I knew it was the battery. Bought another Interstate for it and it’s been good for 3 years. I guess every battery has its flaws.

Thanks Scotty! I have a 95 Miata which I've owned for over 20 years. Great shifter but they do tend to go through clutch slave cylinders frequently. I have 134K on my car and it's on it's fourth slave. My advice is to check the slave's fluid reservoir monthly and just replace the slave itself every 30K miles. I keep a spare slave on the shelf too. It's a $13 part.
Always get my Interstate batteries from Costco, being such a large store, always found their Interstate’s to be very “fresh” and have always outlasted the warranty by a couple years, typically 5 years total!
Costco sells Interstate batteries. In my experience the Costco Interstate batteries always fail before the 3 year mark, but Costco warranty is the best part. If the Costco Interstate battery fails before 3 years, they replace the battery for free!! No lie. 👍
Hey Scotty, I remember as a kid seeing my father filling a new battery with acid. Acid was in a bag inside a cardboard box. Do garages do this anymore?

I used to do this in the early eighties when I worked as an auto mechanic
The worst battery I ever bought was AC DELCO..... anything GM produces is Garbage .....I bought a Ford Motorcraft battery and got 9 years out of it.
Thinking about getting a Toyota Highlander for my first car what you think about them
