Jessie, you're not alone. My biggest gripe with products made today is that they are not user/owner serviceable. Everything is intended to be disposable or so proprietary that there is little hope of servicing it yourself.

Allyssa (sp?),, Warning, danger !!! When you guided the log into place, you stepped to within the 'ladder' of the saw bed. That is a never. Do not step within the spaces of the mill bed when moving a log into place or a beam out. Never. The mass involved. If the log swings or the backhoe causes a fore and aft motion,, at a minimum you will break a leg. The deceptive part is that the wood is moving slowly,, and actually is easy to counter balance and move around. None of that accounts for the mass of the object. The ladder of the mill bed vs a shear or scissors against the moving log,,, do a lot of damage, leg, bruise, knee,,,, never step into those spaces. Hammer and anvil and you are the bug. Make him stop for a moment, walk around to the other side. Never get between.. And,,, if you break your leg,,, I can pretty much guarantee the the mill bed will have to be re-leveled (again) as well.

Dude, the easy pour spout is not made for you to pick up the can by, no wonder it popped out. Hold your finger over the end and bend it down toward the tank and hold the weight of the can with your other hand, works like a charm.

I know you'll never read this in real time but you need to set your blade guides much closer the work because the blade will pitch as it warms up. I think this would account for your fussy little problems. It has nothing to do with the bed. I also don't think that you should be so concerned with the perfection when all these timbers are going to shrink and expand and shake and move over the next 1000 years... geez. Good luck, Please GET REAL !!!

For small equipment, like your generator, use a jiggle siphon from a big can. Easy to control, you don't have wrestle with a can at all. It is a siphon, so it has to be above the item you are refueling. I can usually fill my small 2 cycle equipment from one of those 1 gallon "approved" cans with almost no spilling. For large equipment, like the back hoe, buy some 𝐕𝐏 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐅𝐮𝐞𝐥 𝐉𝐮𝐠𝐬. Not cheap, but they will solve your problem ! They do come in yellow. Get the square ones. They hold 5+ gallons and have a vent. 𝑴𝑨𝑲𝑬 𝒀𝑶𝑼𝑹 𝑶𝑾𝑵 𝑭𝑳𝑬𝑿𝑰𝑩𝑳𝑬 𝑺𝑷𝑶𝑼𝑻 ! The cap has a removable bung, thread 3/4" FIP. Buy a brass 3/4" MIP to hose barb adapter, a hose clamp and enough 3/4" clear vinyl hose so that it can reach down to the neck of what you are filling as you tilt the can (𝑝𝑟𝑜𝑏𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑦 3'-4'). If you want to get fancy, plumb in a 1/4 turn shutoff. This how I fill my boat gas tank (15+ 𝑔𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑜𝑛𝑠) and I never spill a drop !

Have you thought about getting a pair of empty oil drums and filling one with diesel, and another with gas? You can buy hand crank drum pumps that let you control flow pretty well, and it is much cleaner and far more simple than a gas can. Rotary pumps can range from $50 (Home Depot types) or up to $200. The $120-$150 range is best quality for price, and a pair of empty barrels from a store is $150-$200.

You will love this bit of advice: On my 580CK backhoe, I just sit the 5 gallon diesel can on top, then unscrew the big can spout and remove it. Then just use a "jiggler" to transfer the diesel fuel in the can to the fuel tank. Only takes a few seconds to get the fuel flowing, and then she fills up FAST.......empty the 5 gallon can in less than a minute, and no spilling, and you are not bent over holding the 50 lb can and spilling fuel as it pours. Best way I found other than a hand crank diesel pump on a larger storage tank.

I might make a suggestion .. With all the firewood you created .. If you move it up the hill near you water tanks .. It gets out of the way and a chance to dry out .. Since you already stated you had enough firewood.. Then you have a good start on next years supply ..And all the extra lumber you created and store on the hill as well and now you have lumber for a shed ..

Craig Lee you may be right in part, but the spring-loaded self-sealing nozzles and lack of vent for pouring started with California Air Resources Board (CARB). The point was to prevent evaporating gas in all these storage cans from contributing to smog, where it’s been largely successful. Jesse hit it perfectly when he pointed out that the nozzles are absolute enraging crap when it comes to dispensing the gas, which sprays, slops, and spills everywhere, not to mention all the plastics, springs and gaskets are degraded and worthless within a year. The yellow plastic vents (which are contraband in CA) are good start, free pouring with a funnel is working for me for generators with the gas port on top; for car/truck with gas fill on the side life still sucks.

I needed three vents. Ordered a set of five from Amazon. Package came with seven vents. No instructions came with the caps. Use a half inch drill to make the hole. I drilled mine on the top right side where the vent should be, and avoided the seam. Once installed I put the can in direct sunlight to see if the would handle the pressure increase due to expansion. Worked like a champ with no issues.

Take 6-10 of your so called live edge slabs of wood, stack them on edge and clamp them down. Make a cut so all bark is off on the one side. Flip them over and cut all 6-10 slabs to the same width. Such as all 2X6, 2X8, 2X10. Then you will have them all set to the same size for all 6-10 boards. That will chew through your slabs pretty quickly and give you usable lumber as needed. I know your working on timber framing, so you can go back to that pile after you have your house built. It shouldn't hurt the lumber too much if you keep it covered with a tarp to keep the elements off of it. Good luck, your getting there. Keep on keepin on.

Everyone has their two cents to add as well as some rude comments from the people that only talk down to people when they are behind a keyboard. Get over it guys. This is their channel. They do what they want with it and if you don't like it, then skip the parts or maybe even don't watch it. They are new to this. Nobody ever said they were professionals. They have their people that they go to for advice. But enough with the, "you did it wrong", or the, "you should have". Come on guys... You are not the only one that watches this channel. Like the comment that stated that he talks to much. Some people like that he explains everything. He is also a person. He wants to complain or have a rough day, he can vent however much he wants. I would've bought a slip tank and 12 volt pump for the back of your pickup a long time ago!!! I myself have several. You can also buy a new or used tank to put on your property that range from 100 gallons to 24,000 gallons and it would even save you some money because you would be buying bulk fuel, especially off road fuel would save you over 50 cent's per gallon just on taxes plus at least 25 cents for buying in bulk! That's basically 75 cent's per gallon savings not to mention saved money on trips to town! The tanks and pumps literally pay for themselves!!!

A while back I dumped all my large EPA type fuel containers and bought some Racing fuel jugs. You can connect a 3/4" thread connector to the cap and they have a threaded vent cap. You can dump 5 gallons into a fuel tank in less than 2 min. There are a few brands out there so search for "Racing Jug"

I've seen thin bark-on pieces used as shingles over firewood sheds and other rough out buildings. Or (once you have the time) use it to build rough wood bird houses put them up for sale down by the road. I would not recommend pine for heating your house if you put in a traditional chimney as it is known to cause chimney fires. Are you going to have a full farm? Animal enclosures, thin planks (bark off) for chicken coops, etc? Chipper landscaping chips or spread out to rot away. Good luck and I look forward to your next video.

Buy metal gas cans and be free from all those problems. Try jerry cans or type two safetycans.

Jesse, Had you folks responded to anyone of my many emails, you would have a device in you hand to transfer fuel from your can to the equipment without spilling or any troubles. And the device would be FREE!

Oh I'm sure that if I were one of their BIG financial contributor, they would be real quick to answer my emails. My Granddad taught me to respect all. Not just there who line your pockets. Being 71+ and on a fixed income makes it tough to contribute to the younger generation.

A bicycle value stem (minus the valve part) also works well. Has a screw on cap and its metal (usually).

Wow, some real information to make my life easier. Had no idea one could buy those gas can vents. I am sure you can you can understand my frustration with my 83 van with the, It Quits Running (IQR), fuel gauge. Sorta like my first motorcycle where you flip a valve for reserve when the IQR fuel gauge tells you need more fuel. The only difference being a two gallon plastic gas can. As your experience highlights it would not have be all that bad of an except for the EPA filler and no vent. (Not so bad if you were planning to show up 20 minutes late smelling like gas anyway.) Again thanks for putting all that energy into locating those gas can vents. It really will improve my situation in that I will be able to put off dropping the tank, putting in a second $130 fuel level sender tell junking time. Again thanks.

When I got a 30 horse tractor, I quickly found the best option was a large funnel with a backsplash, you just remove the spout and fill it up quick. But I will be purchasing some of these vents for small cans I use for chainsaw.
