There is actually a book called “The Custom of the Sea” about a different case in England. The men who survived were put on trial. I had the idea when he first started growing that he had his feet in too many buckets, which may also be what people are feeling. I understand wanting lots of money but sometimes it does feel like overkill when you already have a successful KZread channel, and then make a podcast, and then start selling merch (which I’m sure ppl were asking for), and creating a charity all while having a growing family. Don’t get me wrong, i think he still does a good job, he’s just less jokey and more serious than he was when he started. He also used to upload 5-6 times a week, maybe that’s what people are talking about?? He’s truly a professional and I think his growth only shows that.

They apparently didn't have it in them to play the game again and let Darwin determine the winners. I always suspected that rugby team that crashed into the Andes of doing that to one of the pilots who initially survived the crash. One of them made a comment in in interview about the one pilot being alive but in bad shape, and they were pissed at him, so no one helped him and he died. It probably was from the crash but the way the guy said it was a little sus.

@Brad Sanders - as I remember (I’m admittedly old) the pilot was alive but severely injured, pinned into his chair as the front of the crashed plane had caved inwards. The co-pilot had died on impact and was one of the first eaten. At least they had the snow so they could keep all the bodies refrigerated as it were until they finished consuming one entirely. They sought to leave as many as possible undefiled. The women were to be the final last resort.

@@bradsanders407 I know a guy who decided to eat human flesh for the hell of it. I worked with his brother. But yea there was an accident on the job site that left loose flesh on the ground, and the guy just ate it. I don’t know if he witnessed the accident which sent him into a shock or blackout or made him lose his mind or what. He wasn’t even involved in the accident, merely a witness to it. And he just….ate it. But the man who’s flesh he ate didn’t die, so it wasn’t illegal to consume his flesh. It’s so gross he said it was chewing and he couldn’t even break it apart he just chomped on it and had to swallow it whole…I say this because regarding the players in the Andes, I couldn’t imagine eating an entire corpse knowing how chewy the meat is…I believe they did it. But it couldn’t have been an easy thing to do mentally or physically

Cannibals go to hell so I don’t think there would be any point pondering over the trauma of murdering your friends and then cutting their bodies open to eat their flesh. It’s inhuman, plain and simple, there is no rationalizing it, if you had any humanity you’d starve to death in silence and keep your common decency without descending into savagery. Screw survivalism, we all have to die at some point, better die like a human being instead of behaving like animals.

I read the book " The Terrible Voyage" which is about this incident. Captain Owen Coffin was a whaling ship captain who set forth from Nantucket with his crew, including his 10-year-old nephew, making his first long-term trip to sea, serving as a "Cabin Boy". This was the first ship ever to get rammed and sunk by a whale. The book is spellbinding and the voyage was terrible. Owen Coffin survived, but his nephew was eaten to sustain others. Yes, Herman Melville read it before he wrote Moby Dick, a classic fictional story. I think there is a mistake here. Captain Owen Coffin survived the voyage and his sister understood why he had to allow her son to be eaten and did not hold it against him. There were three lifeboats and Captain Coffin and his nephew were on board one of them. In the end, the Captain had the only gun and he dared not fall asleep or the other sailor would have killed and eaten him. The other sailor had the same fear. A ship appeared and they were rescued. An amazing true story.

@sun flower there r different methods for fasting as well... Make sure u r fasting properly.. A daily fast should only be sun down to sun up more or less. Anything more than that and u need to add fruit juices to ur fast or ur effecting ur nutritional levels. To be clear u can fast for more than overnight or a day but we r supposed to have fruit huices during that fast and we r supposed to eat specific things in preparation for a big fast of that nature. Hope it helps...

Wow wee! I thought Owen asked the question at the beginning of the expedition, which seemed totally insane to me. But as the story unfolded I realized he was sacrificing himself to save others. Makes you think. Doesn't it? "Could I have done this?" Yes, perhaps I could, in such a terrifying situation. You did it again Mr. Ballen! You are the Master Storyteller! You kept me hanging on every word and at the edge my seat, about to fall off the couch! Keep it up, young man!!

I don't think so. Owen wasn't the first to draw. I would imagine the person holding the hat is the last to draw/doesn't draw and takes the one remaining. If he had done what you said, the 3rd person to draw would notice there was only 1 strip left in the hat when they put their hand in. Since Owen/the hat holder could have also done the same thing but to cheat and hang on to a longer piece, that 3rd person noticing only 1 strip left would probably point it out and not draw. I know that's a detailed take but I seriously doubt Owen did that, which still does not reduce his honor one bit.
