Neurosis' Origins, Gnarly Early Years: Scott Kelly "A Shadow Memory" Doc Pt. 1
Музыка
Across 30 hard-fought years, Neurosis have spearheaded a particularly intense, cathartic and spiritual brand of heavy music that has influenced everyone from Mastodon and Lamb of God to Chelsea Wolfe and Converge. In our new documentary “A Shadow Memory,” we dig deep into the origins, inspirations and resonances of the band, guided by the group’s singer-guitarist Scott Kelly. In part one of the two-part doc, he looks back on his discovery of punk rock, the formation of Neurosis, his catalytic introduction to fellow singer-guitarist Steve Von Till and the philosophical underpinnings of one of music’s most devoutly DIY and steadfastly uncompromising groups.

Scott and Steve’s voices rip through time and space
I saw them live for the "Through Silver in Blood" tour in 1996, Portland, OR.. Frying on Acid....It was incredible!!! One of the most powerful shows I've ever seen.....

One of my biggest regrets is not managing to see them touring "Through Silver....". Everything about those shows with the visuals and the music/samples coming together pretty much epitomises "Intense" to me. And I wasn't even there. One of my favourite albums of all time.
I've seen them 6 times and they just keep getting better and better live they are my all time favorite
This should be required viewing for anyone to maintain an account. Parts I&2 plus the entire NEUROSIS catalog.
Nuerosis and crowbar are mind ripping
Scott kelly and Steve von till...two of my favorite artists
Thank you, Scott and Revolver
One of the most upbeat I've seen him in an interview. Nice to see.

Agreed. There is just nothing like it. It's timeless. I've rediscovered it after 20 years and have been using it to heal. The album is about the conflict of the body and the spirit and attempts to merge the two. Set your mind to soil brother.

I love the stripped down, raw, organic direction they took with Times of Grace, which is my favorite album of all time, but I can’t argue with your passion for TSIB. I’ll never begrudge anyone their opinion for whichever Neurosis album hits them the hardest! They all speak in unique ways. Greatest band ever.

How Steve and Scott met... love when those synchronicities happen and to hear those kinds of stories. More and more over time, I find out why on a deep level, I was attracted to what Neurosis was putting out. Feels good that there's this band and others that dig deep, out there. I recommend the band Brothers of The Sonic Cloth, if you're reading this.

Through Silver in Blood! Enough said...
Neurosis Kickass! Such a fantastic band... What a journey!
all these years I've been into punk/hardcore and crossover thrash and I've never gave Neurosis a chance. Through the 90's before KZread I would tape the local punk show on college radio and still remember the song double edged sword. the song is a brutal fucking awesome song and I remember the intro scared me a little first time hearing it. And through the years forgot about that song. I finally picked up the Abberation ep in the 2k's and love it. But I I've heard the later stuff and idk I'm not really into that experimental metal stuff. But still to this day I don't even have a physical copy of the old stuff embarrassed to say. Pain of Mind and Word as Law I've heard on KZread awesome dark hardcore great punk. Souls at Zero I've heard some off the record. I remember all the ads from alternative tentacles but never listened back then. I gotta catch up seriously and I was a huge fan of bay area punk back then but ignored Neurosis for some reason smh
I love Neurosis ! I love Oregon lived there for 10 years!
I need the full recording of that accoustic set ! Holy shit sounds awesome

The song he is playing at the beginning is called "we let the Hell come" or "let the hell come & let the Hell go" I cant remember which, but that is definitely the song. It is amazing and gets stuck in my head for days. I saw him play it live with ShrineBuilder.
best band
follow your heart trust your.... Head! Man I miss old Neurosis. But I get that they don't really play their old stuff. Still, Pain of Mind just slaps as does Grey.
Just saw Neurosis last night in Carrboro NC. Such a great band!
love you guys _ tony
Pain of Mind, Abberation and Word as Law are without a doubt my favorites by Neurosis. I know a lot of people like their newer stuff- to each their own. I'm not putting down their other albums, but they don't resonate with me like their old stuff.

Does anyone know if there's a video on KZread of the full performance featured in this video? Like when they're playing Blisters and Pain of Mind?

That kind of thing happens all the time. Where a mainstream act or band will pluck from the underground. Like Dillinger Escape Plan opening for System of a Down because their drummer was a fan. Also Pantera taking out Morbid Angel as well. Neurosis got an offer from Marilyn Manson too but he wasn't paying enough.

Melvins and Neurosis are similar in that they’ve always stuck to what they wanted to create and never gave in to mainstream sound just for popularity purposes and I love both bands for that reason
