he ain't being awkward. if you knew what kind of concentration it takes to mix well, you'd know most of the jigging is an involuntary movement as your keeping time to a beat whilst trying to get another in time. as well as the multiple other things you have to monitor, control and constantly adjust.

Beat matching is probably the most difficult thing to master. The beats must remain in sync throughout the entire transition, or you end up with what's commonly called a "trainwreck". It took me weeks to even get half-way decent with it.
