Neural Amp Modeler!! How to make your own Plugins - FOR FREE!
Today I'm trying out a new capture software (modeler) called NAM - Neural Amp Modeler. Works like Kemper and Quad cortex but as a software instead. Same way as Tonex but the best thing about this is that It's free and do I dare claim that It's better!
This is a tutorial how to capture a real amp, you can also capture pedals or even plugins. In upcoming videos I can show that process and also compare results.
links for the plugin:

Follow theese steps:

I'm gladly giving away my NAM captures, presets and ir's but if you really like what I do and would like to support me doing more of this in the future you now have the option to buy me a coffee! I really apreciate it, and it's totally up to you. Also you can get my full collection of profiles, presets and captures.
Thank you 👍

This is funny: I was watching you amazing amp demos and thinking "man, wouldn't it be great if he made NAM models of his amazing amps?", but I thought that you wouldn't agree to do that. So awesome of you to be willing to share your amazing tones, Friend!

Awesome of you to make a video showing people how to do the training process! This was great:) Ive got some videos for NAM on my channel as well. I also have a video for how to set up the NAM trainer system locally on your PC, as well as another video for how to use the Google Colabs "easy mode" trainer. The more the merrier! Lets keep getting the word out on this awesome software!!!

And FYI - 500 Epochs really does make a better model if you have the patience. The model that comes from a 100 or 500 or 1,000 Epoch training session will have the exact same CPU usage when you are using them so the only thing you are losing is time while you wait for the Epochs to finish. Its worth it, IMHO!
@jasonzdora

Your model has more gain because the training file was louder than your guitar. Its a tough thing to balance them correctly.

Can you share the sound chain? I understand it's AT CM8201 transformer and a Two Notes loadbox. If you can make a video about that it could be interesting i guess the sound interface is also important for the capture and maybe DI Box???
Will try that out. Unfortunately, opning NAM in Cubase had it just crash. I will keep at it, though. I think this could be a really good one.

Cool video. Say I want to capture some profiles of my OCD pedal, should I use a mono line-out from my DAW into the effectspedal, using a device like the CP8201 inbetween? Any suggestion on how to set the correct outputlevel on the interface going into the pedal?
@Rohbemusic
Жыл бұрын
That cp8201 didnt work out quite well. In the next video i replace it with a better solution. But you can try without it. You want to lower the signal to the pedal with a passive volume control (analogue). I say its a bit of trial and error, I got it right the 2nd time. If you can messure the signal after the pedal you want to hit the same levels as with a guitar plugged in to it 👍
I get a message: input provided isn't silent for at least 19200 samples before the starting index. responses to this non-silent input may leak into the dataset! Please help
Do you need a special hardware? Can it be done using a audio interface only?
great tutorial - thanks!

Are you bypassing the speaker. How are you making the amp speaker IR?
With real amps or amp sims, you can boost the preamp or even the pwer amp by placing some booster ou overdrive pedal (set as a clean booster) before the amp. I guess that doesn't work with a nam profile... So creating an audio chain in a VST host (DAW, or another soft such as Element or Plogue Bidule) with a booster plugin before a NAM profile won't boost the amp profile as it would do if we were using a real amp or an amp sim ?
Hi Emil, I just tested your profiles and I overall liked the results. You have a lot of noise somewhere in the chain though, and I suspect also a little too much gain. Not sure if this is because of the device you're using to send the signal to the amp or something else, but your model ended up much noisier than most other high gain profiles I've tried. Would love to try some updated profiles if you manage to fix this

Yes captor loadbox, also a fryette powerload is used sometimes 👍
Do you use the Torpedo Captor to make your profiles? Or can you? I want to get one so I can record my amp with DynIR cabs, but also to make NAM profiles with it.

Yes the captor is great for studio recording and making captures. For captures however you need a reampbox also 👍
what if I play records instead? I want to capture john frusciante's tone... if I play intro's of 'under the bridge' 'snow hey oh' 'soul to squeeze' 'scar tissue' 'can't stop' , will I get that fru tone?

@Rohbemusic

I haven't got a verdict on the audio technica yet, still some testing to do. So best to hold off on that. A dedicated reamping box would be safer. In theory it should do the same thing!

@@Rohbemusic Thanks, just never seen one like that before, only the usual boxy ones. 🙂 I guess one pro with the boxes is, that they usually have a dedicated level knob. How it would differ from adjusting the output on your interface, I do not know. 🙂 Ground lift option too, of course.
@Rohbemusic
Жыл бұрын
Its always better to control volume outside the computer otherwise you lower it digitally and May lower resolution. Lifting the ground or isolation is what the reamp box does 👍
