Even yeonjun said this in a live. When he saw people asking him to do smoke challenge, he was hesitant. He said he felt the meaning of TikTok challenges changed, rather than just having fun, it became sort of a competition, a battle. He said it would be fun to dance to it but he can already imagine what the comments would be like, talking about who did this better. Especially since kai also did the challenge. To be honest, i know exactly what kind of comments he's talking about. Even tho i do wanna see his smoke challenge, i do think it's the wise choice not to do it.

Exactly!! It’s hip hop, too. There are so many differences in dance genres/styles. Jimin admits that hip hop is difficult for most professional dancers who do ballet, jazz, lyrical, modern, contemporary, etc. Just because hip hop doesn’t look as groovy on some people, it doesn’t reflect their dancing skills. Hwanwoong came at the Smoke challenge with his sharp iconic style and slayed it.

I do believe he is a great dancer, but in the smoke challenge, he was exerting so much force in his movements that it made it seem like he was doing "too much." Not gonna lie, his control is really nice, he was just exerting too much power in his movements. Kpop fans love to nitpick and blow everything out of proportion. Hope he's doing better now.

I noticed that you edited your comment. On the internet, it's pointless to say 'you can't dance any better.' Is it considered hate speech to express that something isn't good??? My intention was not to insult him by claiming that he is terrible at dancing since I don't know if he is or not. Maybe this style of dancing is not his forte. However, as a dancer myself, I believe that his performance was not good because he overdanced. Sure, you can have fun and enjoy yourself, but if it's a challenge, people are going to express their opinions about whether it's good or bad. That's the way the internet works. I'm not an experienced dancer, and I don't know all that much about dancing in general, but to me, the smoke challenge is a hard dance (meaning it's supposed to be performed in a hard way as well as the fact that the dance itself is difficult). But I feel like if you put to much energy even though the dance is hard, it would end up looking weird.

I've seen other videos of him and he really is a good dancer. However, I truly do believe he didn't execute properly the moves of this challenge, which was surprising considering how good he is. it is hard because this was created to be danced by real dancers and for the show. It takes a lot of control and energy to ace the choreo

They SHOULD feel sorry. Hwanwoong is one of the best dancers in the 4th generation and just wanted to have fun with this challenge. He did so by adapting the choreography to reflect who he is as a performer. If the faves of any of these stans had decided to do the same (in which I mean just having fun and enjoying the challenge), they sure wouldn’t be taking this level of buIIying passively. I swear, this is why we can’t have anything nice in KPop. No idol interactions, no fun encore performances, no live streams, etc. Stans ruin everything and I’m getting so tired of it. When will enough be enough?

Speaking of interactions between different groups, this is why I stopped following 3rd/4th gen even casually and just go back to watching 1st and 2nd gen. They were and are still overt about their friendships despite all the so-called "rivalries" created by the media. They play with each other, diss each other, cover each other's songs and know how to have a laugh. As someone who’s been into dance long before I got into kpop, I love seeing different peoples’ style or groove to the song shine through when I observe multiple people take on the same choreography. Everyone’s interpretation of the steps won’t always click for each person who’s watching, but the people who get it, get it :> Sucks to hear he got backlash over it, even from that clip alone he seems like a skilled n’ powerful dancer- personally I like how he performed the choreo Hope he doesn’t get too disheartened about it, it had a lot of potential to be a solely fun thing, y’know?

I've been a very casual fan of Oneus since I first heard Valkyrie, and I love all the songs of theirs that I've heard- I just don't keep up with the members behind the scenes to an extent where I'd be able to recognize any of them per se. It's most likely that I've heard those three songs, Same Scent is one of my absolute faves from them, I've watched the diff versions of that choreography a lot on top of just listening to the song; but I'll take a look at some focuses of this member on these songs sometime for sure^^ I don't doubt he's great at it, it's always delightful seeing Oneus perform the choreo to their music- though I gotta say I still really like how he went about this choreography in particular regardless heh Thanks for the recommendations :>

He seriously hit every beat. His execution may not be the same as Bada's but he still nailed it. Dancers dance in different way. Watch how other leaders of SWF danced to smoke. They expressed the dance in their own way.

I was a little confused when I watched him dance but he was just having fun and just joining in on the challenge. I didn’t even know challenges could turn into competition like this. What happen to just have fun 😅

As a former dancer myself, hwanwoong is undoubtedly the best dancer of his generation based off technique alone. Because he's in a less known group like ONEUS, people don't really recognize or appreciate it, but he has amazing body control and he never fails to hit details. His technique is also good which is why hwanwoong doesn't get injured. While physical therapy for idols is something that companies should provide, they also need good teachers who know what they're doing. Even without kpop, hwanwoong would be a great choreographer or teacher. I'm really not a fan of the group but I remember watching his performance with other 98 liners from the gayo year end performance and truly he stands out. If another idol danced the exact same way he did, if they were from another more popular group he'd have been praised. Kpop truly is not about talent it seems.

As someone who dances i personally didn’t like his movements in this challenge, i found them quite silly/funny, but i’m sure he’s a great dancer based on his body control and strong movements. But people should learn not to bash or make fun of anyone specially for something so trivial like a dance challenge. Hope he won’t be affected by this and will continue to be confident and grow his personal style.

It looked a little goofy, but that doesn’t mean people should hate him for doing it differently.

Considering that 99% of idols don't have the technique, considering that they are idol dancers and not professional, it was just a disaster waiting to happen. None of the idols has done the challenge justice from what I have seen. This guy just had the bad luck that, as bad as it may sound, but his arms, especially in the beginning are just flaring everywhere, uncontrolled, it just looks like he was screaming for help. And the same goes to the rest. He tried to incorporate his own style, but just doesn't have the skill to do it well. As a result, he just looks goofy at best. His executions was simply bad. There's no helping with that, especially when non dancers prefer clean, sleek execution over a stylistic one that may look a little chaotic, his executions comes off even worse. Idk what those delusional people were talking about Hwanwoong was, and still is one of the best dancers and he literally slayed the smoke challenge. And also, a BIG part of dancing and talent is being about to style a dance to however you like which isn’t easy to do-

It's always the same. When idols do exact dance... they say "no creativity, just copy paste" When idols actually does some improvisation...they say "can't even get a step right... can't dance etc etc.." Also HWANWOONG is One of the best 4th gen dancers if not the best.

Hwanwoong is one of the most talented dancers I've ever seen, he shouldn't be getting this hate. That's his dancing style and no need to question it. These haters are the one who couldn't even move a muscle and they talk about dancing which isn't even their cup of tea

I first saw the dance when V did it . He made it look easy sensual and cool at the same time with his expressions he made it fits his dancing style . Unlike when jk did it he made it look robotic which fits his dancing style and it turned out to be how the dance is actually supposed to be "robotic" I think every idol did the challenge should've added their own flavor to it to make it look normal something that fits them and their persona when they perform or dance
